They're playing him because he's fit. 2 weeks ago he had a 'Light' piece of taping around his calf muscle. NOT achilles strapping! So you would assume he had an slight tightness, in that 'Calf'.

His lack of competitiveness IS Not due to any injury of a limb.

Larkins is usually pretty spot-on about these sorts of things, and he usually has a lot more than a 'Light' piece of taping to go on. Even a slight calf strain would seriously limit his effectiveness - his leap, initial speed, sideways movement etc. Nothing to gain & lots to lose if they get it wrong.

Maric's contract is up at the end of the year. Why not try him in Bennells position down back or forward with a run through the midfield. He has been the best at Casey a number of times this year including yesterday. It's time to give him a few weeks in a row in the AFL to see whether he is worth keeping. Bennell is contracted next year so send him back to Casey to work on his ticker and see if he can involve himself more in the game.

We need 15-20 possession games out of these guys on a regular basis if they are going to have an influence in the outcome of the game. Bennell is only averaging 10 this year which is less that last year and less than his first year.

Yeah, I understand your point of view Theo, but I just think Bennell might have more to offer than Maric in the (likely) difficult playing conditions in Darwin. Incidentally, both of these players are amongst my greatest disappointments to date in 2011, after (apparently) having stellar pre-seasons.

Achilles can happen often through a strained calf,, putting strain back on the Achilles tendon.

I'm suggesting to you that maybe the club is thinking of dropping him under the guise of an injury, or they're making an excuse for him to try to satisfy the supporters, to get them off his back.

The truth is he has to HTFU.

He was pitifull on friday again. He should be dropped, but I wouldn't for Darwin, as Darwin is a special needs town.

I'd probably go against the popular trend, and keep Bennell for the Darwin game. His ball handling in slippery conditions is second-to-none, and this, combined with his pace, could be real assets. He must know that a spell at Casey is looming, and if he retains his spot for Darwin, he will surely realise that he is very lucky ..... that might just bring the best out of him. Having said that, his form doesn't warrant retention, and that should probably be the ultimate decider.

I thought the suggestion that Bennell should play in Darwin might be a cue for you to enter the discussion old dee (ha, ha). My problem is that if the match was being played anywhere else, I would probably share your view. I just reckon this might be a classic case of 'horses for courses'. Let's wait and see what the Match C'tee thinks!

My big problem is I doubt there is a course for this horse.

And if the only course is Darwin

We will need to keep him on the list for 1 game a year.

Bennell hasn't been lazy. He's worked very hard. He's had the occasional soft moments but his biggest problem in the last few weeks has been constant change of position. Jurrah has been particularly lazy in the last month. We have to decide whether the week off can fix an injury of whether he needs to be dropped. The alternatives are Dunn. Maric and Bate.

Well if Joel is still out with a knee, maybe it is a good time to debut Tom. None of those debuting have let us down this year, which is more than I can say of many of their senior colleagues.

If injury is preventing Jurrah from competing 100%, then maybe he needs a rest and Cook, despite apparently a quiet one Sunday could also have a run.

Let us see all these enthusiastic young guys of the future before they are tainted by the Demon curse of cyclical apathy.

And hell, I think we have all seen more than enough of Morton "making space" by running anywhere the contest ain't - in Tapscott who at very worst lets his opponent know that he is nearby!

Happy to have Maric in for Bennell. I just refute the fact that he's been lazy. He's gone from a defender to a sub, then to a forward. He's confused! He needs a solid run in a position again to see his best form. I don't like labelling players lazy.

HaHa, beautiful Mono. Jack Dyer would love Morton, he gets where the ball 'aint, then recieves it.... and goes nowhere near a contest, with or without the pill.

He's a forward 'Killer'. Slow supply, if he was in business he'd go bust.
