Exactly !! We actually play pretty good footy under him when the players do what there told!

How about a bit of old fashioned honesty re Bailey and Scully?

Tell Bailey he is gone at the end of the season but he is expected (and paid) to perform professionally until then.

Demand an answer from Scully re his commitment to MFC - if he intends leaving then tell him to go now, if he won't commit then don't play him.

I know this may seem naive but it is professional and common practice in other circles.

Time to stop the speculation and to make some tough decisions!

Honesty like sacking a coach we have said we will back.

Circles like the circles of failure we have travelled for nearly 50 years .

Demands like we demand a player commits 100% to his on-field commitments

We are not a club thats run to suit the Herald Sun or any dumb journo or fan that speculates over the same thing day after day .

Should this question not be about James Hird .They dont look liike finals ,they all have stress injuries from training to peak at the Nab Cup ,.

They have about 3 decent new kids on the block . The best assistant coach available breathing down his neck .

All that apprenticeship at Prahran under 9's obviously wasn't enough .

Yesterday helped Dean Bailey's cause no end for 2012...He is still in the drivers seat.

We are in the 8 after 14 rounds.

Yesterday's first 10 minutes MUST be addressed though...If the Tigers had been accurate, it could have been very different.

Funnily enough, I haven't changed my stance: wait until the end of the year.

We are a good chance to win this week, but if we don't people will be complaining, especially if we lose like we usually do (i.e. by 5 goals or more).

Moreover, we have a three week patch coming up of Hawthorn, Geelong in Geelong, and Carlton. Which we will lose. All by significant margins. Which will get people all whingy and whiny again.

It's the games against the Dogs, Port (twice), Richmond and the Gold Coast that will determine Bailey's fate IMO. If we don't win most/all of them, and look respectable doing so, then he may be in trouble. That's despite the likely scenario of being blown off the park for three weeks in a row.

Those who reckoned Bailey had no idea, have a look at the team he has built. Bate, Dunn, Juice et al were given the chance to show whether they would be part of the future. Currently the cream is rising to the top.

Don't expect miracles this year, but think about how many thought Hurley or NikNat were better than Watts, Martin better than Scullgove. All those who thought Bombers and Tigers had a better gameplans than us etc.

Maybe Bailey's deadpan delivery hides a raft of good strategies. Sit back and watch how the season pans out and may we not call for his premature sacking again.

Great post. If we make the 8, unless it is through some Essendon-esque falling in backwards, he will survive. Current situation suggests that 8th will be around the 11 wins mark this year. I'd say that even if we do pull a Richmond and finish 9th he'll make it, as it will put us on around 10 wins.

I think to draw a line, is too definitive. If we go close to Geelong, Carlton, Hawthorn and WC, without actually winning, it would still suggest real progress, and a vindication of Bailey's strategy. What will tell us that Bailey is on the right track, is the slow but steady cohesion of the team. We wouldn't expect to beat Geelong at Geelong, Carlton or Eagles at Etihad, or Hawthorn at the MCG. A win in any of these games woud be an unexpected bonus. To be 'competitive' and not get blown away is a more realistic expectation for supporters.

I think it will mostly depend on where & how we win games, not who.

I am hopuing the players get together at some stage & basically make the stand..."We are good enough to make it with Hard Work"

We were challenged 2-3 times yesterday & withstood pretty well, we should have killed them in the 3rd-some bad misses.

But the Team worked hard. No excuses next week, Footscray are on the slide...Hall & Cooney need to be given the run around, BIG TIME...They are not fit.

Quite frankly prosepective coaches should be lining up begging to take the reigns of this team.

Easily the biggest upside of the comp.

Personally I think regardless of the outcome this year, the team is developing together and the coach is on the same journey.

The plan is working.

Wait for seasons end and then review and most probably reappoint.

What continues to upset me is that once the team gets into the hole, it falls further into it as the game goes on. We have yet to have an 'honourable' loss this year. Bailey(and I,too, like his persona) has this 'it is what it is' attitude that creates unacceptable blowout losses. He is unable to stop the rot and the rout. But he can have the job of media liaison officer. He should, however, be allowed to see out his contract.

But get rid of Brian Royal NOW!

His fault they handballed it about 80 to many times etc, i promise you thats not the game plan, not enough space especially at the dome...

Scott West-Bad Game but should keep his head-so should we all.

We don't need to bash the coach, we have a number of young players that are developing but we played like a team that needs a break. Tonight was our 4 game in 18 days we looked slow and tired. The football department knows tht we have to get games into our young players and that is what they are doing.

Do I want to see Bailey coach us next year, I prepared to let him earn his job over the next 8 weeks. One thing is for sure if he does keep his job we need to invest some money to get good assistants around him, I don't think the ones we have are any good.

A good coach brings good assistants - not the reverse!

wrong. sure the performance was shizen housen but having said that, the players were not playing.

bailey has developed a list, and in his first season that the list is actually going to be developing well you want to get rid of him, maybe half way through next year if we are no good his job is in doubt, but keep him on board definitely!

who has to go Brian Royal, out coached ridiculously, screwed up nearly every match up in our defensive 50 and often had either bennell or nicholson on the bench when both dalhaus and hooper were on the field.
