Quick question re game entry (from an ignorant Sydneysider)

I'm just wondering what the deal is with upgrades for members. I noticed these were available when I somehow inadvertently followed a link that took me to Ticketek or some such site and saw $20+ dollar upgrades for general members. Can someone enlighten me as to what an upgrade entitles you to, whether and where they can be purchased at the ground, and where the seating is located.

Sorry if this sounds like it's something everyone should already know, but sadly this is my first visit to a game at the 'G' for many a long year.

Hi,

I'm assuming you have a general admission membership - it gets you entry into the ground for the game and that's it. If that's the case, you can rock up and sit in the general admission areas for free.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to a reserved seat by paying part of the general public cost (basically the general public cost - the membership discount). This will get you a 'better' seat - and also give you a reserved seat, so you won't have to worry about finding a seat when you get there. You will be able to purchase this at the box office on the day, subject to availability.

The Ticketek website will have a map of the 'G so check that out for an idea of the ground. When you follow the link to upgrade you'll be able to choose from various sections (ie. Level M, N, Q, or a particular stand) and when you click 'find tickets' it will offer you the 'best available' in the chosen section (or the entire ground, if you haven't chosen a particular part). Look at the map to figure out exactly where they are.

I'll be hauling a bit of photographic equipment in with me, so I'm wondering what will be the best part of the ground (will check out that seating map as you suggested)... maybe I should just try to locate Chris Connolly at practice on Sunday and remind him how he helped me out at the Shanghai game :-)

hey there , if you do just rock up mate you will end up stuck right up the top of the southern and you cant see squat! better off to reserve a seat (member upgrade) and get a seat on level one. im a country member and do that every year for this game. GO DEES!!

Thanks guys... I might just hide the long lens at the bottom of my backpack and go in with the shorter lens attached to the camera. And EGD, I took your advice and did a Premium upgrade (section M14 Row O - in the pocket area) - may as well feel important for one day of the year :-)

I was aproached in my seat last year by an attendant asking to see my lens, was only 200mm but looks a bit bigger with the hood on it, so it seems they're on the lookout for them. Interestingly the MCC allow 300mm but the AFL and CA don't, what does that leave?

At the game in Darwin one was pretty savvy and realised that almost all DSLRs have video on them now. I feigned ignorance told him it was probably crap anyway and only wanted to take photos, no worries, pat on the back enjoy the game!
