A couple of observations from the game today (from the TV coverage).

Bate clearly put his hand up for a recall to the seniors and really wanted it.

Nicholson really impressed especially in the 1st half.

Spencer pushed off the ball sometimes by much smaller opponents.??? Maybe needs to build up his his leg strength.

Blease if he can bring it more often could be a very good asset off half back.Intensity for the full game the key.

Petterd a bit too good for VFL although disposal not that great at times.Great mark for his size.

Gawn very mobile for his size and far better prospect than Spencer IMO.

Blond haired fella up back, cant recall his name(please help me out here). Was it Mcdonald? Good mark.Looks a decent prospect for 2012.

Liked the look of Cook and not as skinny as I thought he might be.Looks a real prospect and maybe the power forward we are looking for down the track. Also like his kicking at goal.

I desperately wanted to get down there today but was forced to watch it on the telly. Just a few takes I noticed:

Really surprised with some comments about Jetta. I thought he was great! Played on the ball all day and has shown he is not a small forward but certainly a midfielder, people need to realise that. On the TV its easier to notice how good players are in close and Jetta's contested ball and use of handball in stoppages was first class. Also found the ball in space on many occasions and had some damaging runs. Always tackles hard and besides a couple of mistakes he used it really well.

Nicholson was superb, especially early on. Great acceleration and I love it how he backs himself. Certainly worth watching, could be a rookie promotion at some point in the season

Evans was also impressive, I really liked the look of him in pre season and he backed it up today.

Howe took some great marks and is a nice user of the footy. Was quiet in patches so I still think he's a while off AFL level but another player worth watching

I was a little disappointed with Blease, I've always thought he's an exciting prospect. Today he did some really exciting things with his trademark run and pace but really butchered it when he disposed of it. Also went missing quite alot, don't write him off but he's a mile off AFL standard right now.

Petterd, Maric and Bate all showed alot and deserve another call up. Bate was easily BOG and Maric and Jetta were our best through the middle. Petterd after a scare early on worked hard like always, a few mistakes but did well

For mine next week:

IN: Petterd, Maric, Bate, Jetta

OUT: Morton, Wonaeamirri, Bennell, Dunn

Also consider Warnock for Rivers

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
