You're right rfpc,

I'm convinced I'm a better person than most.

Yeah, but dyslexia is holding you back though...

ti is?

I'm an MCC member who doesn't fork out the additional money for an MFC membership.

Think of me what you will, I really don't care.

I like to think I'm better than 16/17ths of the rest

Next year I hope to be better than 17/18ths

You obviously do, considering the passive aggressiveness that is dripping off this post.

You should pay up, you'll sleep easier tonight.

I'd appreciate a small explanation of why you don't.

At present I'm tempted to call you something that would get deleted by a mod.

We call that passive aggression.

Rolls off the tongue more easily.

There is a much higher percentage of MFC supporting MCC members that buy memberships than non-MCC MFC supporters (based on those figures that are bandied about every now and then).

Agree. And I wonder if the figures include those who are MCC members who buy full MFC membership packages - but don't follow the MCC/MFC package via the MCC renewal membership...like me.

I know their circumstances.

They can afford $600 for the MCC but not another $14 a month for the Dees? ($4 a month for the cheap one)

And it does make them lesser in my eyes.

You and I and E25 have both and it does make us better.

Whilst I can see your view. And whilst I'm in the same boat being a member of both. I don't see myself as any "better".

And we have about 160,000 "supporters" who are not MCC members and not MFC members.

We could use 190,000 members...

Exactly.

I sleep like a baby, so I fail to see how that will help.

The price of an MCC membership, in itself, is more than enough of an outlay for me.

That's it. I don't hate the club, but why would I buy something that isn't going to offer me any additional value?

That's it. I don't hate the club, but why would I buy something that isn't going to offer me any additional value?

Ah, but it would. I can see whyit would offer additional value: -

To contribute and help see your team prosper; be more competitive in a dog eat dog world.

Surely that's good value.

That's my reason anyway.

Maybe you should re-read your post and make sure you're saying what you think you're saying.

Both of them actually.

Well what I am saying is this.

If like me you hold a full MFC membership and:

If you also hold a Melbourne Cricket Club membership, it helps the MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB if you use your MCC membership at MFC home games at the "G"

I think what 2for1 is getting at is probably at the heart of why this is ever debated.

Some believe MCC members should buy MFC memberships regardless, some MCC members don't see the point.

I'm a student who is also a member of the future fund, have also donated money etc. and buy at least one club jumper a year (I'm a sucker) on top of the membership. I view my membership as a donation, but one I get the least satisfaction out of.

Obviously for those who aren't MCC members, the MFC membership gets them into games. Aside from games at the Dome, I've never had to use my MFC membership.

I think that memberships are important from outside perspective and possibly chances at sponsorship, hence why I buy a membership.

But, in terms of helping the club financially, I'd much rather buy a jumper each yeah than a membership if the club benefited equally from it.

Depends on whether you want Value for your money. By helping the Melbourne Football Club Financially you will get a better standard of game from the club, thus your MCC enjoyment goes right up. It's a win/win really if you think about it. B)

Fine, they don't have to buy memberships because they "don't get anything out of it" but I don't want them to turn around and give a hand wringing lecture about the AFL 'screwing us over' because of our low membership base when, if the MCC didn't exist, we would have almost 50k members.

You want the MFC to have clout?

You want the MFC to play big games on free to air?

You want to see the Demons become a power?

Then buy an effing membership!

To fork out the cost of an MCC membership, then say an extra $50 is too much... that's just weak.

Paint it any way you like, but it shows how much you really care about the club.

I'm not saying you have, but don't pretend you care about the club as much as I do.

Sheesh guys, were supposed to be an inclusive club

By all means promote positive reasons for MCC members to take out MFC membership, but lets not turn into a nasty pizzing competition

We are better than that, surely

Inclusive of those who profess to support the club, but won't buy a membership?

It's not meant to be a pissing contest, but it's insulting to those like myself who sacrifice for the good of the club, while others sit back and reap the benefits.

It's weak and it's also indicative of character.

You can choose not to believe that, but it's the truth.

Love for the club isn't the only variable - money holds different value than it does to others. I could, theoretically, love the club more than you but also value my money more. The opposite could be true - I could donate more money to the club despite a lesser love for it just because I'm more generous (or more frivellous) in general.

daisycutter is right, this is nothing but a pissing contest, and a pretty disappointing one at that.

It's not even worth discussing.

TBH I'm was bringing out my inner WYL.

But seriously, if you don't fork out the extra $50 it's pretty bloody weak.

Yeah, I would prefer to buy something from the MFC store that I actually want, which I do on occasion, to assist the club, rather than paying for a membership which is largely futile for someone like me.

It's weak and indicative of character to have a dig at a fellow MFC supporter because they have a different value system to yours.

I'm only being honest, yet you feel the need to insult me because of it.

Pathetic.

As long as you buy merchandise from the Club directly, the MFC make money which is what needs to happen if we are all to enjoy the winning of cups.

Those MCC members who roll up with there own lunch and then go straight home at the games end week after week make it hard for the club to grow.

i always open my wallet further on Home game days, particularly since we are now aligned once again in the Bosom of the MCC. April 1 2009-what a brilliant day. B)

Just proves even the most bright and even of us can get excitable.

Meh.

Pay up.

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
