Ha ha ha!

I know he plays for a rival of yours Dappa but Eli was simply great twice in 2 playoff series.  He was superb.  A big occasion player who has never been much better than B grade in nearly all his regular seasons.

In swimming he would be regarded as a negative-splitter ... some players are like that - they need the brightest lights shining on them to perform at their best.  Foles was like that too and I hope he gets another shot at that glory.

You've got a more than handy back-up to Wentz but I'm betting that the 49ers wouldn't mind him on their roster right now.

Apart from tomorrow's game ( Pittsburgh @ Tampa) there's a beauty coming up this Friday - Vikings @ Rams.  A big big game for more than a few reasons.

And no one scored a point in the comp so we're all still in the Gold medal position!

Would happily have Foles right now. Shanahan's offense isn't something you can learn in a day but he would easily pick up enough to get by. Plus Philly's offense wasn't exactly simple.

It just sucks. I didn't think we'd win the Superbowl, hell I even said last week 8-8 would be a good result. But to miss a season of Garropolo really getting the playbook down and building synergy with the receivers. It just stinks. Not to mention just seeing progression and giving hope for future seasons.

So tired of ACLs! It's the most deflating injury. I left Etihad this year feeling queasy after Lever went down. Give me a broken bone or torn hamstring any day.

It's done now, end rant.

There is lot to be said for a top quality QB to just play like Peyton or Brady layz.   Both pocket-passers who because they had/have limited scope outside of the pocket,  that is where they stay primarily.

It is often a little boring but a very effective way of playing the position.  Rodgers at Green Bay spends way too much time outside the pocket ... thus, he gets injured a lot.

There is. It's the tried and true way. It's a passing league and if you can get a guy to stand in the pocket and throw darts you're usually sitting pretty.

A few years back we went through the wave of 'dual-threat guys' like Kaepernick, RG3, Newton, Vick, Wilson who got a lot of people giddy but I think you really need to be able to throw from the pocket and go through read progressions.

These days I want a pocket passer who can move a little bit if need be. Whether that's movement in the pocket to evade (Like Wilson or Rodgers) or to pick up a few improvised scramble yards and slide or SAFELY get out of bounds.

Having both is risky though ... I reckon if a QB is capable enough inside the pocket a good coach can then give that QB eniugh help to still win more than lose.

Most of Brady & Peyton's passes were/are over very short distances.

Yeah totally with you here. It's just way too risky to put the QB in those situations.

Mahomes has exceeded expectations so far. They seem to run a lot of read option though so you hope he doesn't cop a big hit.

I'd happily have Eagles hand him over. I don't think they'll go for it though. Apparently Foles has right of refusal, and wants to start somewhere for more than 13 games. Jimmy G will be back under centre week 1 next year which has Nicky Franchise out of a job again...

I reckon you should look at the only man who's thrown for 400 yards in 3 consecutive games in history... Fitzpatrick.

Couldn't agree more. I have Mike Vick as my Avatar cos he got me into NFL. But dual-threat QBs just scare the hell out of you. Newton will probably go down as the best ever and he's not even that well liked. The whole time you watch guys like that have flash in the pan seasons, Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning just keep on keeping on. Wentz now too... elusiveness but not reliant on his legs. You get one of those out of a draft and you sit back and enjoy being relevant for the next 15 years. Luck has been devastated by injury, but even through all that, Colts fans know he'll EVENTUALLY come back and do things.

The classic example is Peyton ... used in a primarily conservative way out of the pocket by Tony Dungy he ends up at Denver where Elway uses him the same way but with very few deep throws.

Result ... 2 SB's and 1 SB victory (at Denver)

Yeah it's unlikely and honestly for his sake it would be good to see him get a shot at being a franchise guy, he deserves it.

Never know, Fitzpatrick might be available after today :p

Dual-threat QBs can be good but they need something extra to be great. Russell Wilson is a great leader and I think Wentz will be the same.

I wouldn't call Wentz dual threat. Wilson definitely is... I have Wentz a bit more like Romo. Can squeeze out of tight spots unusually well, and avoids tackles if needed as he's bulky and strong... Which means sometimes he'll run for 10-15 yards out of nowhere. Wilson, TBH, scares the hell out of me as an NFC fan. He's so good.

And yeah. Fitz might be your huckleberry. Some veteran guy who can come in and not lose you games. Winston is back this week, so you'd think it's possible they put him back in.

Yep ... and the niners look like losing Garoppolo to an ACL injury.  Non contact too.  I'm surprised there aren't more ACL injuries on the artificial surfaces that have no give in them.  You've got to feel for their fans,  all the same.

The Buffalo win is an absolute surprise ... and to a lesser extent the Giants & Tennessee wins.  Bears leading the NFC North although any of the 4 teams could win that division.  I'd like to be confident in questioning the Pats chances but they'll bounce back as they always do.

What a shocking weekend.

We lose the prelim, Casey chokes and loses the GF, then Garoppolo does his ACL, then Gawn/Brayshaw underpoll in the Brownlow, then Oliver needs two shoulder surgeries, then the Hogan-to-Fremantle rumours kick off.

We've invested so much into Jimmy for 2018 (literally, given the price), to lose an entire season of him working with the offence is surely going to set us back significantly.

I don't have much confidence in Beathard pushing us along like Foles did to Philly last year. I don't think our offence is good enough to make a sub-par QB look good. And with our defence...this is going to be a tough year I think.

Good to see the roughing the passer stuff has all gone away this week...

Guy at work was livid Macca, I thought this was the worst on aga8nst Matthews.

Well,  I can come to terms with things quite quickly once things become quite obvious.  The NFL almost certainly won't be doing a back-flip on this new ruling - not this season anyway.

So pass-rushers are just going to have to adapt otherwise they run the risk of being ejected ... at least it applies to all the teams so in a way,  it's fair.

I don't like it but the new ruling is almost certainly here to stay.

TU that is exactly right, it’s been a very rough 4 days. Actually had no idea you were a Niners fan excuse my ignorance! At least we can grieve together. The NFL was nicely poised to be a good distraction from the heartbreak but it wasn’t to be.

It’s a massive loss. This is a very complicated offense and if Jimmy had another season of getting it down then we could have added a few more pieces in free agency and had a serious tilt next season.

I agree. Beathard has shown a little but he strikes me as someone who will only ever be a solid backup QB. Has a decent arm but needs a clear lane to throw, struggles with over the defender throw. Needs to be playing in rhythm. The Eagles also had a brilliant line whereas ours is still developing. Sigh.

Still no one off the mark in the tipping comp ... just the 1 point on offer this week.  There's probably a couple of more obvious road chances this week but who knows?  It's another tough week.

Sorry I meant great leader like Russell not dual threat. But can definitely move around in the pocket and get those extra yards.

I’m a big rap for Wilson btw, love that guy.

Yeah Winston surely has to come back in so never know. I’m waiting for some clown from Deadspin or something to suggest Kaepernick ?

Oh yay, 4 road faves, let me tip against 2 of them and lose this week.

But for now: I love Josh Allen. That's my QB of the new guys. He's so damn big and dopey yet somehow gracefully athletic and fires the ball off. I'm all in. (I also love Mahomes and Baker, and Darnold is ok too but Josh is my guy).

I haven't had a look yet. Look forward to it.

Big loss Talib. Needs surgery as well! That offense can definitely win a shootout if it comes down to it but you want your best DB's out there.

Lions, Eagles and chiefs for me in wk 4.

Gutted about Jimmy G, niners season officially back in the toilet. Crowd numbers at Santa Clara already really low due to fans having to stare into the blazing sun all afternoon in that awfully thought out stadium. Now without their marquee name can't see crowds flocking to see CJ start

I don't think the Eagles were ever even close to this much of a fancy. Your head must be spinning.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’
