What I'm offering up here is a simple theory of why Collingwood's win is good for us. No one cares about the GC or GWS franchises and I for one share little interest in winning our next Premiership against either of these souless Corporate Brands. Collingwood like us are young, enthusiastic and only going to get better. In the years to come I would love nothing more than to see a true reemergence of Football's greatest rivalry. Picture Melbourne and Collingwood dominating the next decade. Not only that every young kid who doesn't barrack for Collingwood will be barracking for the Demons as the only club that can stop them winning. If our games of this season are anything to go by then at the moment we have what it takes to beat them. Just imagine Grimes, Scully, Watts and co matched up against Didak, Pendalbury and Brown. Football's going to get a whole lot better over the next decade...............now let's move on and start preparing.

On a side note I sat next to a Carlton supporter who turned to me and said "The problem with carlton is that unlike your mob we're a brand not a club" Music to my ears. You only have to go to a carlton home game and watch their lame attempts at Greenwashing the environmental issues with Judd to realise we are light years ahead of them when it comes to social responsibilities and of course football potential.

I don't care who we play in any Grand Finals as long as we

1. Win and

2. Win

I just want to be seeing our boys climbing that dias.

Of course, beating Collingwood would be great but I'm not fussy.

Just win the premiership first then worry about building rivalries.... It is easier to win one when you are the hunter rather than the hunted

The difference between Jim Stynes and Paul McNamee... Jim wanted to rebuild the club, Paul wanted to build the MFC Brand.

We will get to the top of that mountain, i am absolutely sure, and stay there a while. As long as everything is planned and executed as a united club.

We always beat Collingwood in september and they know it.

That said, i don't care who we win flags off. I hate them all B)

Collingwood are primed to win a few more this decade. We must also become one of the powerhouse teams of this decade and also finish of the 2010's with a couple of flags.

I would love to beat Collingwood on Grand Final day. Wouldn't all of our dreams come true?

Sure to beat Collingwood in late september is the epitome. But i want Cups, so am not overly fussy who we thrash really.

Who gives a crap about Collingwood or any other team for that matter? I just want to see us win one.

I don't care if it by 100pts over Collingwood or one point over the ACT girl guides.

The only thing us Melbourne fans should take away from the game is how sweet it will be when we get #13, and how bloody hard the club needs to work to make it happen.

as an aside...why are Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney soulless corporate franchises? Are you happy with the likes of Pettard and Bail and Spencer...bet you had the same words to say about the Bears then Lions when they began....without a team in Queensland would there have been the systems in place to develop them... if the code is not strong then we will not be strong

Because they are, and you can throw the Brisbane lions into that lot as well. Take a look at the lions now-A complete Rabble.

We've shown twice this year that Collingwood aren't far ahead of us. Their average age is only slightly ahead of ours. Half their team was under 23 I think. And 8 players had played under 50 games.

They were younger than the Baby Bummers were in 93.

We can do it and our guys will take great confidence from our performances against them.

We clearly need a couple to make some big steps forward. Morton is probably best placed and is similar to Pendlebury or even Goddard after the same number of games. Dunn took some steps this year and can go further now he realises how influential he can be. Garland playing games was a boost and he will be fitter and stronger for next year.

Like many i just want to see a premiership and really don't mind if its against Freo, North, the Tig's or anyone! But it would be something super special against the pies because..... well they are the pies!

Urgh. Can we have a scenario where we dominate by ourselves?

There's always going to be an opponent on Grand Final day and history suggests that it's likely to be the same team twice in a row, so there's a chance it could be the Pies.

I don't want to rain on your parade because the performances against Collingwood were fabulous. But the overwhelming feeling I have at the moment is the frustration of not being able to bank on your team: West Coast at the G; Port at footy park (surely the best chance we had in ages to win in Adelaide -- and the captain's 250th to boot) and a couple of others. It's great we can get up for the Pies, I love it. But we need to be able to beat the crap sides consistently, too.

the Lions are a complete rabble at the moment and the Lions fans I know are hurting which I presume they would not be if it was just a soulless corporate franchise..heck we have been a rabble for most of my 40 years on this planet.. so the new clubs are being formed by a different mechanism to how the tradtional clubs came together..doesnt make them soulless corporate franchises

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
