What have people heard? Who are we interested in?

Right. No more guessing.

What have people heard around the traps?

Which players in the draft have the Dees got their eyes on?

What about trade talk?

No more speculation, has anyone actually heard any inside info?

According to this piece in today's HUN we won't be doing much at all this year -

MELBOURNE will make minimal changes to its list for next year, but is yet to re-sign Nathan Jones or Cameron Bruce.

Hard-running Jones has tested the waters at other clubs, including Essendon, but the Demons are confident he will stay.

Bruce, offered only a one-year deal, is still shaken by the manner in which Melbourne dismissed captain James McDonald at season's end.

Bruce has two-year offers to play elsewhere and is still considering his position.

I'd say that taking the 'minimal-involvement-in-trade-week' stance is an indication that we realize we have a few commodities that other clubs will target, but they'll have to come up with the goods, because otherwise we're happy to keep them.

If good offers come along, we'll take them.

Another top 20 pick in this draft would be a dream.

Heard on SEN this morning we are looking at a straight swap with Warnock going to Carlton and us getting Shaun Hampson...

Could be a good option considering gawn, spencer, fitsy, etc are developing...

You're kidding. We would want Jacobs but Hampson is an athlete who struggles to take a chest mark.

No our mandate is to screw carlton over, not the other way around. of course they would like a good key defender for their 4th ruckman.

Both Jacobs and Hampson are NQR.

That's why they're 3rd and 4th ruckmen.

Jacobs would lose to Brock in a footrace.

Crap deal for us. Do our recruiting dept feel sorry for the buggers for the Brock deal? Hampson and a second round pick or GTFO.

Better deal would be Warnock for Warnock

That was just a suggestion texted in from a listener, Maher prefaced the mooted trade by saying it was unsubstantiated and not grounded in any fact, but would make sense for both teams. Was a driver for suggestions for ‘win/win’ trades from listeners.

Also need to consider what we're likely to use in this draft.

No use trading for a 2nd or 3rd round pick if we're only planning to use 2 picks in the draft (& elevate McKenzie).

Of course, Hampson or Jacobs would allow us to jettison PJ, but it's still something that needs to be considered.

I heard that Brad Miller will be staying on with the club in a developmental capacity his wage will be covered partly by the club and partly by Casey where he will continue to also be a player.

Have heard that we're very interested in David Hale (with an apparent lack of interest at present from Carlton, although this could change). Rumour is that the MFC Footy Department are keen to secure a ruck if we are to secure a trade (as PJ appears gone, with Spencer more than likely to be re-rookied) who can be "rested" up forward and capable of kicking a goal. Have heard from my sources at North, that the we are keen to find a backup ruckman who can provide support for the development of Fitzy and Gawn and allow Jamar to play more time out of the goal square.

I see that if we were to secure a ruckman via a trade, I'd see a ruckman permanently in the square for the majority of games next year. I get the impression that Bails is keen to give the more mobile forwards of Watts, Bate, Sylvia, Green and Pettard some freedom playing them across the half forward line with the likes of Wonna, Jurrah, and Bennell/Jetta taking the crumbs from a resting Jamar/Hale combination.

interesting if indeed true ( not doubting..just saying ). Curious as to what sort of developmental role they have in mind. He seems to have a great afinity for Casey

A resting tall who can grab a mark is indeed a bit lot lateral thinkng if not s reinvention of older footy. Would , at least for the moment provide that third leg of the forward stool we're looking for.

As a trade...who'd go to Nth ?? or possibly a round the corner via two clubs sort of deal ...maybe . who knows

Yeah I have no idea if it is true or not, I got it from a source who would have no reason to tell me otherwise, he knew because they were interesting in trying to get Miller across to their club in a coaching role however his management informed them that he is staying where he is. Good for Melbourne to secure Pia at the club.

are u talkin about the same sam jacobs that got towelled up by jack fitzpatrick? yeah no!

give me hampson anyday

Just a way to keep Pia around the club, I like it.

Better deal would be Warnock for Warnock

Ha... I'd be into that. Would have been sweet if we ended up sealing a deal with him last year before Carlton did. He would have slotted in quite nicely I reckon.

No idea who'd go to North, have just heard that we paid a very close interest in Hale's form over the last 6-8 weeks. Whilst it may not be outside the box, I've been told we're keen on having rotating 4 Med-tall forwards (ala Watts, Green, Pettard, Jurrah, Sylvia and Bate) across the half forward line and a FP (similar to Basketball where players rotate around the zone with a centre being a pivot).

If true, welcome back on board Brad. A great clubman. He's great, what a champ.

I have so much admiration for this guys attitude & love for our club.

Very dubious. How do you propose we do that without exposing him to the draft? Where I doubt very much he would last to our picks.. GWS has the first 8.

youd have to think the club has to bite the bullet to some extent . If worth the wait..he'll be offered two years at base rate. Thats better than hed be on now.

If Spencer is kept on, as is widely thought, he will have to be promoted onto the main list. He would surely be picked up by someone else if we tried to re-rookie him...

wasn't there rumours that we were chasing tom lynch from st kilda pretty hard? seems to have gone quite now..

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
