At some point the Demons are going to have to honour Jim in a unique way. In making my suggestion I do not want to dishonour the Barassi family in any way and I will take it on the chin if I appear as disrepectful. I propose the Club Best and Fairest be renamed the Stynes/Barassi. First port of call would be the Barassi household to assess their response.

Any better suggestions

The Best & Fairest is the Keith "Bluey" Truscott trophy - so what has the Barassi family got to do with it? Leave the existing trophies as they are. They are all named after people who died during the war. Truscott, Barassi Snr. Ball, Anderson, Create something new or perhaps the "Heart & Soul" award could be renamed the "Jim Stynes Heart & Soul" Award.

Thats the army award isn't it?

What about the naming the southern stand after him, Melbourne Cricket Ground with a stand named after a melbourne/football great.... makes sense... right?

i know there is already a room named after him at the G, but who cares.

Also they are rebuilding part of the southern stand which could be a good time to reinvent the stand

Jim would probably hate the idea of having an award named after him, but if there were to be one, why not broaden the criteria for the award, so that anyone (i.e player, official of the club or supporter for that matter) within the MFC can be eligible and call it the 'Jim Stynes Community Service Award'.

You're right that award is there, but i would be making it a MFC only award.

I like the community service award, seems very fitting.

The army award is a joke.

Looking at the players who win it and how much people care about it, we might as well not have it.

Didn't Tom Hawkins win it last year?

That and the fact it isn't name after anyone - it is an award created to generate exposure for the army, named after them because they have paid for it.

Real honourable.

A community-service based award would be fitting for Jim.

Not sure if the exposure it gets will do him justice though.

(and there may already be such an award. Not sure.)

I think the MCC Trust and the AFL should give serious consideration to commissioning a statue of Jim at the 'G. While there are many fantastic sporting stories which involve the G, I can't think of a more inspiring one than the story of Jim Stynes.

I have said this before on this forum, but I was reminded again on Friday night. I was talking to a Pies supporter, who commented that other than Robert Harvey, he could not think of any other league footballer who was so universally loved, as is Jimma

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
