Interesting that all players who had links to the GC have gone there, Bruce and Ablett are just about the only 2 remaining.

Agreed, not only have all those linked gone but they have announced the signing within days of their season coming to an end, with Bruce not yet signed at Melbourne I would imagine he will be offered as trade bait through the trade period and with many Brisbane and Perth based players available perhaps gold coast is deciding who they will and won't go after.

Bruce has no trade value in trade week, if he decides to leave we want him to sign with the GC, Bruce should get us the same return as Cambell Brown, a pick at the end of the first round. I don't think Cam Bruce will go anywhere he will hold out for a 2 year deal, I don't think Davey can get on our VL until the end of 2012 season.

Who is Bruce's manager?

He is worth every cent Bruce pays him.

Last time Cameron's contract was about to get renewed there were rumours flying left right and centre.

Brucey got a good deal then and is holding out for a better one now.

He won't be going anywhere.

Oh, do you know the manager?

Two years ago Brad Green held out for more. And look how he produced last year. Hope Bruce holds out and we get the same return from him.

Bruce wasn't one of the players approached last year and agreed to a contract with Gold Coast...

I believe after his offer from Melbourne he has had an offer from the Gold Coast but he wasn't in the Gold Coast picture from last year (ie signed with them) if that makes sense.

Bruce staying or going makes no difference to where we will finish on the ladder. If he stays good if not we have enough quality coming through to ensure we keep improving.

Amazing how many people are worrying about losing too many of our older players. Don't see Adelaide worrying too much about their departures, they see it as more opportunity for their younger guys to stand up.

As someone above said, it will make no difference to our ladder position should he stay or go. If Bruce is fishing around other clubs for a 2 or 3 year contract, it's best he leaves now.

Melbourne and veteran half-back Cameron Bruce have yet to agree to terms. It is understood the two parties are debating financial terms, rather than the length of the deal.

For your info.

Far out - see the bit about Brisbane entertaining the idea of trading Daniel Rich for pick 4 from WCE?

Remember this is crazy Vossy we're talking about. anything is possible.

thank god our coach and football department have had a carefully planned approach to recruiting that has taken several years. I'd be so mad if our football department took such a short-sighted and chaotic view of recruiting and list management

If the sticking point is only the value and not both the value and length of the contract I would expect him to stay put.

Bruce thinks he has 3-4 years left in him. Let him go to the GC.

We bottomed out with Bruce and we will go place without him

Exactly.

Short memories, we've bitched and moaned about leadership, or lack of at this club for years. Bruce has always been a part of that leadership group.

Now people want him to stay for his leadership, give me a break.

The clean out it almost complete.

While I agree that Bruce is not a leader of men and went missing in September (with a number of friends), there is a spot for him in the next two years if he wants it.

We just aren't that willing to pay for it.

And fair enough.

Bugger. They've offered 2. I hope its not too big a offer.

I hope you know I don't know.

I was basing that on the fact that no-one else becomes VL eligible until Jamar in 2013.

Totally disagree. 2011's sole priority WILL be to pump games in to the kids. Have a look at Bailey's Whiteboard Wednesday from the other week, he spent a considerable amount of time on the exact matter. Some supporters need to realise that playing 22 games with each other is far from what the Club means by playing games together, they are talking 50+ games, which is obviously getting up to 3 years of footy together.

And another point you raised in regards to Strauss having a breakout year allowing Bruce to go to the wing or another position that we need him...This is the exact reason why a 1 year contract is fully justified. Sure, shift Bruce to the wing, but then he will be stopping Trengove/Scully/Blease/Tapscott/Morton/etc development.

If Bruce was as important to our team as Davey and Green are, I would say give him 2 years, but it's been too long since he's been able to step up, take the game on and put us in a winning position off his own performance. Flash has done it, Green did it numerous times this year, Bruce hasn't. The role he plays onfield is easily filled with Morton or Strauss, or even Gysberts, and even if these young blokes don't step up every time, it's not going to hurt us too much.

Am blown away by the people saying he has 4 years left too. Seriously guys, look at all the 30+ year olds in the AFL, there aren't too many of them that perform week after week at their previous high standard.

Billy, I am one of those whom think he can play on for a few more years. At least 2 or 3 and possibly four depending on injuries etc..He started playing football very late as a teenager which has left his body in quite good shape. Can go the year -shown by his Brownlow vote in rd 21 where he got two votes by memory, being the last MFC player to poll a vote in Round 21.Therefore he shows he cam last the whole season out and he is only 30 years young..

We need to retain some experience in the team and whilst he earns his spot- should be played.

Good for you thinking that he has up to 4 years left, but you will have to go and watch a Swans game to see him do it, that's Shepparton Swans with Robbo and Ooze.

That point you made about "being the last Melbourne player to gets votes in the Brownlow is proof that he still has the legs" is an idiotic arguement and you know it. It means jack sh!t about him being able to run out the year. There were 22 players playing in round 22 for Melbourne, does that mean the rest of our list can't run out the year? If you really want to make these comments, tell me why he didn't he get best on ground for all of our wins? And if he was sooo good in Round 21, why didn't he win the game for us in Round 22? From memory, some would argue that he cost us the game in that match - was his carelessness due to a lack of fitness? Your point has nothing.

I have great fears that if he were to get a 2 year contract, that in the 2nd year, there is greater chance of him getting that tap on the shoulder toward the end of the season, then there will be another interesting group on here claiming we don't do anything to build loyalty and a great culture in the Club, and by the sounds of it JCB, you'll be the president of that group.

Just a question

if we say Melb might give the finals a seriou nudge in 2013 and as some suggest Bruce to get 2 years at best then could not an argument be made that what would have been his remuneration might be better used to shore up salary obligTions that ensure some talented kids remain inboard whilst also getting more games into those that WILL play off for a flag?

All a case of priorities

just a question

Give his money, or half his money because of the VL, to the kids and you will be inflating their price.

I would prefer, as I said with his enormous pay packet in the last three years, Bruce gets overpaid rather than our kids.

I'd rather spend that money that is outside the cap, on the footy dept to get or keep the best assistant coaches & on training equipment & aids.

Invest it in our regional development or with our community spirited areas such as Yuendumu.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
