THE EMBLEM

Not a fan, I'm afraid. I just don't think it looks good, which is really the only thing to judge this kind of emblem on. They're on the right track, and (most of) the ideas are good, I just don't think the visual representation is that well done. For starters, I'd have ditched the computer-program-looking shading on it, or at least toned it way down. There's an odd mix of old-school (the design) and contemporary (the colouring) that makes it look weird to me. I think these sorts of designs work better with solid blocks of colour.

Hey Bananas, got an example of what you'd like to see ?

Regarding the background, if you watched the video, you would hopefully have remembered the background is an impression of the original rules of the game. Seeing Melbourne played a significant part in their earliest development, it makes sense to include them in an emblem which pays tribute to our

past, don't you think?

i love the poem on the site, how awesome is it

Bit harsh...not like it was a personal attack on the club.

Personally, I love the emblem - never have I been more proud of this footy club :)

I wouldn't be too concerned that 'Bananas' doesn't think it looks good. Afterall, if a poll was taken tomorrow in the HS about whether Julian Knight should be released when his parole is due you'd get 5% of the population voting yes.

I'm very comfortable with the positive response this emblem has received.

Okay, in the spirit the good feeling about the club, this emblem is bringing out, I'll apologize.

He did at least say, her preferred a solid background.

But as the rules are an integral part of the background design and I think should be included, I'm not sure where else they fit.

It was very well done. Got a decent reception from the gallery at the conclusion too. In sync with the vision available. Big thumbs up.

I really like it.

A club that has got 2 wooden spoons but in that time has also broken membership records and destroyed 5 million in debt, stands for something.

What do you think Demetriou ?

Very proud.

I think Demetriou would be pleased. The Melbourne Club and name is crucial for the games standing and he would be relieved that it appears it may flourish again.

Melbourne's efforts have NOT gone unnoticed by Mr Demetriou. I'll give him that. He's already stated how tremendous the MFC board has been in rectifying the great club and that everyone involved is a credit to themselves and the club they are representing.

Love It. Best Emblem in the Comp Im gonna get it tattooed

On SEN this morning Dermatitis Brereton was quite scathing of it - I like it even more now.

A very well put together presentation by the club. Well done.

I love the explanation of the significance of what the Trident, Southern cross and sherin represent.

But, what a horrible looking emblem.

So what will we be using it for? Does it replace the square? Or the Demon? I'm not entirely sure in what capacity we'll be using it.

When I first saw it a few weeks ago my first reaction was 'Nice, but I don't like the Southern Cross', and there was a debate on here about the symbolism and the underlying meaning behind the SC and whether or not it had been 'hijacked' by bogans/hooligans/Collingwood supporters. But having listened to Jim explain it all (representing our indigenous heritage and ties, and a symbol of unity), I'm convinced.

I likethe colour of this emblem

As opposed to the 2nd first shown

Also do not be suprised if a second emblem/logo is uded next year

Not that i'd necessarily take any notice of him. Did he give a reason(s) as to why ? (Just out of interest)

His opening comment was "too busy", but it was more his overall tone - pretty condescending towards the MFC lettering and Trident - as in "what's all that for" . They debated for a while as Andy Maher really loved it. Whatever - but I'm all the more confident in my tastes when they differ from DB's!

I guess Dermie, like others, prefer the "peaceful quiet emblems" that recognise their history and heritage: -

Brilliant colours too.

Others of interest: -

There is alot going on in these emblems too....busy : -

It makes us look like the premier club. :)

I think it is an extraordinary emblem. The blue is a rich, dark blue, not an insipid light blue. The reason the emblem is busy is that we are the oldest professional sporting club in the world. The world! We have therefore got a rich heritage. To stake a proprietary claim on the football and the establishment and rules of the game themselves is a brilliant idea.

I will bet with anyone that within 5 years a number of clubs will transition to a similar "EPL" style emblem.

Absolutely.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
