No one in their current VFL team could step in and bust open a final, except Akker.

Could he though? Like Rhino said, seven years ago he could, sure. He hasn't been able to bust open so much as a VFL game recently, so it's a stretch to think he'd be able to bust open a final now considering his present form.

I hope MFC has a look at him if he's available in the pre-season draft

Because 2 more months is going to make a difference to 85 years of failure, bar 1.

It may well....

Aker vintage 2010 is a shadow of vintage 2003.

I dont.

Finished and of no value to MFC whatsoever.

So do I. Despite his comments which were taken way out of proportion, he's a great footy player and would add a lot to the club.

Come on your taking the pi$$??!

Had his day and been axed by 2 clubs in the middle of a season. I don't dislike him and was a fantastic player but all those people can't be wrong. Their footy club has made a tough decision and a good one.

For those saying that he hasn't been playing well and hasn't broken any games open this year, I seem to recall a third quarter earlier in the season where he exploded and dragged the doggies right back into contention. I'll have to have a hunt around and see if I can find the game.

He's been playing most of the season with a buggered groin. For those of you fortunate to have never had one, the two things it really affects are your lateral movement and the power of your kick. Not easy for a player to play well when he's unable to change direction or kick a full strength.

As for him making trouble or opening his mouth, as with the Lions it was understood right from the beginning that he had media commitments and would be continuing with them while at the club. The Bulldogs knew that he would be writing his columns and appearing on TV and Radio shows. They could not possibly have a realistic expectation that he would sanitise his comments to make their life easier.

I have never seen any reason for the furor surrounding his article on gay footballers. He had nothing bad to say about anyone in the article. He gave honest advice. If we are honest with ourselves it was probably very good advice as well. Perhaps I'm a cynic, but I don't think society (and in particular footy club society) has evolved to the point where there would not be any difference in the way an outed player were treated.

Quite frankly, I think that he has been remarkably restrained in his comments in the last few weeks. Had I been treated the way they have treated him I would have been at their throats and daring them to punish me for it. The club has acted like he is an erring schoolboy, they have demanded that he give up a major source of income without making any offer of compensation beyond the "privilege" of playing for them, they have insulted him and questioned his integrity. I truly hope he cuts loose and exposes them for what they truly are.

Personally, when the doggies bomb out of the finals again this year, I'll be toasting Acker and wishing him every success now that he's not being dragged down by a poisonous, precious pack of conformist wimps.

Going by your sig, surely you're taking the [censored]?

He's finished.

Troublemaker or not, he was a great player and deserved a farewell game, at least.

You wanna recruit a player who was at his peak five years ago who has constant issues with his club?

Posted

Aker WAS a great player

He was never a TEAM player

Maybe this is the start of a new culture at the Western Oval

Its about time

Think the last time i saw them in a GF was 1961 when they played Hawthorn

Will be watching with interest

Coming from a poster that says PJ is the greatest demon to wear the number 11 jumper is a testament to your judgement

One thing is for sure is that your famous for being the only person on the planet that thinks so

Dont agree at all.

He breached the trust with the football club too many times - end of story. The Bulldogs could not have any more "leaks" out of their football club coming from this bloke. It doesn't matter if he is the best player on the list or not - a football club demands trust, end of story.

OK lets believe everything we hear from the media

He'd easily fit in Melbourne's best 22

No he wouldn't.

Why would you bother with a 33yo that has no part of our future?

His position would deprive another player with a future being selected.

And then there is all the off field baggage....

Amazing.

Im not overly sure that Footscray have thought this through too well. hey cite the disruptive influences ( alledged) caused by Aker and yet the inevitable stoush that is about to be played out must surely be louder and larger than anythign that could have been contained behind closed doors. Now Aker is off the leash it will turn into a no holds barred streetfight.

Quite frankly a lot of this doesnt really ad up. Footscray crying foul with regards to issues surrounding supposed breaches of trust seem rather sensational giving the history of all parties concerned. Seems much surrounds a book in the offing by Aker and the reaction of certain players to it. What...were some home truths about to be dished out ?? We dont know yet but you can bet that book will be a best seller now. Alledgedly meeting were had by BJ with other players to discuss ( or more poignantly ) direct a witchhunt within a kangaroo court session to oust him. Youd think the leadership group would have simply manned up and offerd their views in person not via squibbing to the coaches.

There is much to this that we dont ( and may never know in unbiased honesty ) know.

But let us all watch as one lot line up in the Red corner and the rest in the Blue.

I wonder if there will be any fall out with respect to memeberships. Whilst Aker may not have induced nearly as many new members as say Hall there certainly seems, via polls and feedback, to be quite some dissention amongst the rank and file as to whether this was not only a reasonable way to treat a player but as to how clever for a team looking to play finals. Undoubtedly there will be divides as to his potential input there but he does ( did ) know how to perform on a big stage under lights and he seemed to be capturing some form in the magoos.

There is no real question that he was put to the sword for daring to be an individual in a pc-team-world.

Let the spin commence !!!

I'm sure the Dogs have some material on Aker they could threaten with release. Depends on whether he thinks he's got any reputation left.

That being ?? If they had something really good youd think that would have been suficient to shut him up...he's not shutting up is he ?

This just shows how ignorant you are.

Cameron Bruce, although being a good servant to the club, has not future with the MFC and is keeping other players out of the side.

And then there are youngsters, such as Maric and Cheney who are not going to make it at AFL level.

Aker would be a great addition to MFC.

None of those issues have any relevance why we should be recruiting a 33 yo past it player who is a cultural cancer.

On your form to date you should be the last person alleging ignorance on any other poster.:blink:

The point I'm making is that Aker is good enough to be in MFC's best 22.

Try to stay at least two steps behind.

But even if you held that view why would you bother picking him for 2011 when at 34,he is a player in deep decline on performance, has no leadership values and has more off field baggage than Ben Cousins?

And if we are developing a side to challenge for 2013-2014 why would you do it? He has no role.

Beggars basic common sense.

He still has enough gas in the tank for 2-3 years, has finals experience which is severely lacking in the current side and his media exposure would be good for the club. His on-field experience would be an asset on the younger players coming through, and will add depth to the midfield and forward line.

If he can stay fit, he will be an excellent addition.

He cant get a game on form with the WB.This year in 9 games with WB he has kicked 2 goals 7 behinds from a fwd role and has topped 20 or more possessions in a game (hardly difficult in this game) only twice. His tanks are on empty.

His media exposure to both Brisbane in his final years and to WB has been a disaster for both Clubs. Why would MFC want him for that? I am not sure what value any of his experience is when he does not perform at AFL level, we arent playing finals for some time and has absolutely no leadership credentials at two clubs now. He cant and doesnt play midfield for WB anymore and has not for some years. And recruiting for depth?? It just gets worse.

Keep learning.
