Parking at the G

Did any one else get turned away last night form parking in the G ? All gates were closed even before the match even started, I asked one of the men ate the gate and he said the car park was full, i heard on mmm that it was a small crowd and told him this he just laughed at me and walk off. People were driving away upset, I finished up parking in a private car park and had too walk in the dark and didn't arrive until half time. The crowed could have been more only for the fact that no could park in the G and they could have lost money as a result of this.

36,000 turned up, so not that small.

There's a private carpark just near Richmond station, sort of opposite the Precint on the corner of Swan and Punt that I use.

Strangely it's usually only half full and last year when running late for games there were still spaces after the game had commenced.

Only a short walk, costs less than parking at the G and you get to leave straight away rather than being caught in gridlock.

I'm not sure why people seem to not use it.

... Obviously now it could be a bit busier.

I got prety late to the G but made it in just before the game started

Biggest problem I faced was when I came down Swan street and where you turn into Punt street and normally stay in the left to enter Brunton road it said "closed due to public event."

What the ????

We got in the first car park entrance off punt road

All the parks along the Brunton street side where basically empty. It was very frustrating. Be nice if we where Prewarned but I heard nothing about it

Doe anyone else know what the so called Public event was ? and why were all the car Parking areas not used?

The public event was an AFL match. Apparently Melb were playing Bris at the G.

?

That road is usually closed off, to my knowledge.

It might pay in future to check the MCG website re: parking.

I'm sure there must be some info on there.

This was the first time something like this has happened to me. I just thought it was strange how on mmm they were saying it was a small crowd and yet the car park was full. It all seem a bit weird.

The car park was partially closed due to rain during the day. Always happens.

The parking at the MCG is beginning to get ridiculous. I was turned away in Round 1, when there was hardly a car in the bloody place. They're hopeless. I ended up just copping a $117 parking ticket. In the end it wasn't worth it that week.:P

I make it a habit never to park at the G........the delay getting out is the main reason why.

The carpark behind the tennis centre is the best, but fills early so need to be there at least 45 mins before the game, and failing that, the Fed Square car park!

Yeah, that's where we parked on Saturday night. It was the first time we've parked there this year and it's gone up another $5 from last year.

Hey, call me Captain Obvious, but better to use public transport. If you need to drive some of the way, park near a train or tram line & get a train/tram the last part. Way quicker and cheaper.

I just parked in the centre of Victoria Parade and walked about 5-6 blocks ... 15 minutes at the most. The problem with the MCG carpark isn't just getting in, it's getting out at the end.

The northern car park entrance (across the railway bridge from the Hilton hotel) was still accepting cars when I walked past at 6.45.

I drove in at around (punt rd end) around 6.45 and you could fit a sh!t load more cars in.

Sorry I havent been up to the MCG this year till this game

Previous Years I have never encountered this problem

As to the amount of space for carparking there was heaps of Brunton avenue it just wasnt open

I thought the event may have been some special type of welcome for the chinese students or something to that affect

However it seems it wasnt according to you

This just makes it even more bazar as we wallked through all those empty carparks off brunton street to get to gate 6 and it certainly wasnt soft underfoot in those areas.

So you are telling me now that is always Closed??

Great! its $17.00 to park off Swan street

$8.00 is bad enough at the MCG

As far as public Transport

When you come from outside suburbia you dont have a lot of choice car is the safest option compared to Public Transport late at night especially now days and even more so when your Family is in Tow

Captain Obvious, a lot of us have families and it is much easier to take young children in the car than on a packed train that is covered in filth. I am not going to take my 13 week old on the train, never know what he may catch. The things people do and then touch the poles on the trains... no thank you. Take a swab and see how much [censored] is on there, literally!

Yeah it's not cheap......but I guess you pay for the convenience.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
