Now i know its not very wise to be judging someone who hasnt played a game yet but did we make the right decision to pick up gysberts before a bigger key position player like talia or black? sheedy wrote during the week how a club needs 12 or more midfielders but was it worth giving up a big body who can also play forward or down back? feedback on gysberts form for casey would be appreciated

No.

Gysberts will be a gun.

Sheedy is an old senile fool who is desperate for attention. Remember this is the imbecile who stated that Richmond were capable of winnign a premiership last year, and look how that turned out.

How about Jetta. Ready made Gun. Picking Gysberts was a bit of a risk.

Watch Cameron Schwab's Whiteboard Wednesday videos on YouTube.

I am confident that the Club Picked Gysberts for a good reason-Give the kid the chance to show his stuff before any judgememnt is passed please.

I think the best thing to do is to draft the best available player. I would have taken lucas ahead of Gysberts, but then I would have taken tapscott ahead of both of them.

Agree with every word.

Honestly making judgments now especially in comparison with Brock is silly.

It will be at least 2-3 years before we can properly analyze Gysberts, sure we may see signs along the way but his afl career hasn't even started.

How many games have Talia and Black played? You answer your own question as soon as you quote Sheedy. Whatever he says it is fair to say doing the opposite is probably the smart thing.

I'm stoked we picked Gysberts ahead of Lucas. I suspect we would've taken Melksham if he was available at pick 11, but I think Gysberts will be a gun for this club.

I reckon we nailed this draft.

Dud. For the scrap heap along with Watts.

As if we didn't take Luke Ball at pick 11. Disgrace.

I am starting to think the expectations towards our draft picks by some posters on here is unrealistic

There are some that will make the grade and some wont so lets just give them some time to develop

I think the enjoyable part is watching kids develop along with the team

You would be amazed how many future STARS spent long periods in the reserves before making their debut

IMO this group of players has more upside than i have seen at Melbourne for many years

We are still 2 years from finals and until then we will have our ups and downs

The very best i have seen a Bailey coached team play was the 1 point loss to Collingwood

Gysberts was chosen and we as supporters should embrace that and support the kid

This what if we picked so and so is not being supportive at all

I have absolutely no problem with Gysberts being taken at 11. Just because he hasn't made his debut yet is no reason to doubt his ability. We find ourselves in the enviable position of having too many players who deserve a spot in the team, and I for one am thrilled with that. I have no doubt that he will get his share of gametime as the year progresses and we'll see exactly why he was rated so highly.

I think I will reserve judgement until I have seen him play 30 - 50 games.

Yeah Blease is a hack as well. Hasn't made it so cut him :)

Can't wait to see this kid play. I'm perhaps even more excited to see Blease play though, seeing he's been around for that extra season.

Should have stopped after the first 17 words.

I'm pretty gutted we didn't re-draft Issac weetra with pick 11....

Give the kid a break. At least he played two more AFL games than you or I ever will.

Well said, Swampy! Let's not get ahead of ourselves with our "armchair expert" judgements on the new kids. We have a LOT to look forward to. I, for one, very much look forward to seeing Gysberts making a great contribution to the MFC in the months and years to come. Would love to see the Club well and truly vindicated in their use of the draft pick graciously handed to us by Brock.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
