Fitting them all in

We are 1 and 2, and a maginificent chance to b 2-2 with a win over the Tigers. This would be a very nice position to be in.

But just looking at the main guys who missed today - Sylvia, Morton, Jurrah, Rivers, Jetta, Maric, Watts, Woneamiri.

That is some serious talent.

The first three are obviously best 22 without doubt.

Rivers will be back at some stage, Watts will be unleashed in a couple of weeks.

I am a big fan of both Jetta and Maric, and Wonna is electric when he is on the park.

The point I am making is that we have played two very solid games in a row, and we have some real talent still to come into the side.

Exciting times ahead.

Just makes everyone fight for their spot in the 22. No more automatic selections anymore

That was a problem i always felt with the ND years.

Our good players were great, but they didn't have competition for their spots so much.

Bailey and the board are creating a totally different side.

Bring it on B)

I reckon Maric will be beginning to wonder if he`ll get a run. His form doesn`t sound too great and there are many more deserving well ahead of him now. Will need to lift big time otherwise he will have to wait for an injury for his chance.

Speaking of injuries, we`ve hardly had one except for Rivers in Round 1. That is extremely pleasing after our horrendous start to the past 3 years

Players:

Backline - already solid and should be difficult to fit them all in the team in the future

Midfield - plenty of options, would love to develop some real speedsters but certainly should have a core group capable of going places

Forward line - some real talent here with the mid sizers and smalls. Talls the concern. There is still a heap of pressure on Watts and Jurrah to be our saviours

Rucks - Have a good one in Jamar. Need to find 2 more out of PJ, Meesen, Spencer, Martin, Gawn, Fitz.

Team:

Shown a real desire to compete, tackle and play for each other. Still not sure what exactly the game plan is but a zone is coming into it, the kickouts are coming along and I feel there seems to be an idea about a game that involves team defence, run and carry, swift ball movement to hit up forwards and so on.

Lots of improvements ahead, BUT 1 MAJOR problem. NO power forwards. It showed against the pies, and again today.

I lost count of the amount of times,in the midfield, they had to look sideways or backwards to pass it off, cause we had NOBODY up forward capable of taking a contested mark.

Keep a lid on it :)

Jurrah and Watts (when both firing) will help, but WE really do need a 'Brown-like' full forward.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w
