Pointing out the obvious, naming 48 players really doesn't give a real indication of who will play on Sunday. Its almost every listed player!

There's only 29 players there. The numbers are their guernsey numbers. As has been said above, three will be cut from the squad, and a further two will become subs, i.e. will permanently rotate with someone during the course of the game.

A niggly in Tappy's hippy cartilegy ???

:D

Good solid squad. With a number of key players unavailable through injury or not selected for other reasons, it's very pleasing to see the depth we are starting to accumulate. Bodes well for the future.

Squad

1. Matthew Warnock 2. Nathan Jones 3. Clint Bartram 7. Brad Miller 8. James Frawley 9. Jack Trengove 10. Cale Morton 12. Colin Sylvia 13. Jordie McKenzie 15. Ricky Petterd 16. Jack Grimes 18. Aaron Davey 39. Neville Jetta 42. Jake Spencer 43. Jamie Bennell 44. Rohan Bail 47. James Strauss 48. Jack Fitzpatrick

These are the ones I'm hoping to see come this weekend >

Two players can be subbed off and replaced for th eremainder of the game, sort of like how they do it in soccer.

I didn't think they'd pick Davey, but maybe they'll sub him out after half a game.

Looks like Spencer and Martin will take on Sandilands in the ruck. What a great test for them. We may find out if they're good enough to be our future ruckmen.

Thee's 15 of our best 22 there, (yes I include Miller in that) but no Jamar. We're not exactly fair dinkum, still putting games into the young blokes.

I'd love to win it though and will be dark if we don't.

oops my bad, I just look at the numbers. Its a big list anyway :)

Maybe 'on' at half-time -if- we're still in the game..?

Out of the side that beat Freo last year go Robbo (5 goals), Bate (3), Mclean (2), Johnson (1), Valenti (1) plus Dunn and McNamara.

Back in the squad come Green, Warnock, Bennell, Grimes, Spencer, McKenzie, Bail, Bell and Maric.

Added this year (if picked) for their first games - Scully, Trengove, Strauss, Joel Mac, and Fitzpatrick.

Looks like we have a better defence and more options in midfield (esp with Grimes) but we've lost a bit in attack.

If we're building the team from the backline, then let's see if we can hold Freo to 80 points or less. Our average last year was > 100pts.

of our best possible 22 it would be nice to consider Bruce, Bate, Watts, Jamar and on their 2008 form Woenamarri and Garland for this game.

The forward line relies heavily on the Jurrahcane..........probably Green will camp there for a fair bit too.

I think in 2009 the forward line was quite efficient given the number of inside 50s the team averaged per game, now that the midfield appears to have been bolstered (see Scully, Trengove Grimes) maybe the forward line can score more from more opportunity.

Would love to see a regular forward line of:

Sylvia Bate Watts

Green Jurrah Woenamarri

Maybe get Morton resting there too.............

With our lack of tall forward options I'm amazed that Morton and Dunn are still playing predominately in the midfield.

Just one more go at naming the sides for Sunday Little Stinga and you win a set of steak knives... ;)

Just practicing getting Fitzpatrick's name right so you don't go off your nut like you did last time.

I'll pay you that one. Good call.

I would imagine that Fitzpatrick is a tall option to give Spencer a hand on Sandilands. This is not quite what he was recruited for, but it won't do him any harm.

Let's hope not. Fitzy would be giving Sandilands forty kilograms. It might not only do him physical harm but leave him with permanent mental scarring.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
