So the VFL season starts 2 weeks after the afl season, and ends one week before the last afl round. I wonder if the delayed start will limit the number of new players chosen in the senior team in the first few rounds. DB may prefer to see how Blease, Strauss etc go in the VFL before promoting them.

I doubt whether that would make a difference DDDDC because the players in question will get plenty of opportunity in both MFC and CSFC practice matches including NAB Cup and NAB challenge games. The VFL clubs will have practice matches running through the relevant period so if the players are good enough, they'll get their chances.

Will be interesting to see how many VFL games are scheduled at night this year, or even moved to night games. I know Werribee had two last year (having seen the Werribee v Geelong fixture when Ottens struck form) and apparently they have been scheduled a couple more this season.

I see Casey has a scheduled 7pm twilight game on April 10 against Geelong; Round 1.

Does anyone have a complete fixture available and can they identify if there are other night games scheduled ? Could be an interesting move by the VFL and the VFL clubs to gain extra exposure and gate receipts against interstate games live on TV.

In viewing the above,Werribee have 3 listed night games, starting at 7pm,

Round 3,4,16 along side Casey's Round 1 as you stated.

I notice that Casey has a large number of Saturday games this year; usually only the ABC game was on Saturday and the rest of the round was on Sunday. I can't see the ABC doing all of Casey's Saturday games, so is this a change in policy by the VFL?

Cheers for that link JCB.

I think it's an intriguing and interesting move by Werribee and to a lesser extent Casey.

As you alluded to: -

Rd 1 - Casey v Geel - 7pm Sat 1oth April.

Rd 3 - Werribee v Gold Coast - 7pm Sat 24th April

Rd 4 - Werribee v Collingwood - 7pm Sat 1st May

Rd 16 - Werribee v Williamstown - 7pm Sat 7th August.

Obviously, Werribee have an alliance with North Melbourne but share half the AFL players with I think Nth Ballarat. I was fortunate enough to be invited to last years Werribee v Geelong at night down at Chirnside Park out in the sticks. By all reports it was well above their regular home match attendance and they profited well with sales. Now they have 3 night home hames against some opposition with plenty of interest. Gold Coast. Collingwood and their largest rival in Williamstown. I've noticed they have scheduled these games away from the heart of winter too.

Is this something we will see more of in the VFL as long as there is adequate lighting for TV coverage? A new attraction for local footy perhaps ?

It is my understanding that the Nth Melb rookie sensation Majak Daw may also been drawn to play VFL with Werribee and not North Ballarat.

For interest sake these scheduled games clash with the following AFL games: -

Apr 10 - 7:10pm SYD v RICH

Apr 10 - 7:10pm CARL v ESS

Apr 24 - 7:10pm MELB v BRIS

Apr 24 - 7:10pm PORT v STK

May 1 - 7:10pm SYD v BRIS

May 1 - 7:10pm ESS v HAW

Aug 7 - 7:10pm GEEL v COLL

Any news on whether or not Casey are going to be able to play their remaining home games at Casey Fields? Very keen to get to the Casey-v-Gold Coast match in a few weeks and the loss of home ground advantage could really hurt their chances of a top 2 finish.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
