Jan 1st at 145 Melbourne versus Carlton 1998 round 4. Dees by two points if memory serves, the third dees blues game they've shown recently.

Jan 6th at 140 - Dees Pies round 8 '98, dees by 3 points

Jan 2nd at 345 - 1990 elimination final, Melbourne versus Hawthorn

Jan 4th at 345 - 1988 semi final, dees pies - dees by 13

Does anyone know if there's somewhere that people post "copies" (*ahem*) of these games? I've been missing them due to no digital recorder and would love to store our games on computer for posterity.

Also have they ever shown Round 2, 1998 against North? That's one of my favourite games of all time.

When the festive season settles I'll tape some highlights of the games I've got off the tv

fantastic, thanks for the update champ. :)

Right, I've gone out and bought a DVR just for the old games gimmick alone.

Eventually I want to copy the matches to my computer to save them - is this in any way an easy process? Can you just stick a cable from one to the other or is there all sorts of jiggery pokery involved?

Not that I will have anything to do with it, but the 87 prelim is on Saturday 9th at 6am on 7two (45 mins of it).

1988 Elimination Final is on 7two on the 11th of Jan at 3:45.

So to put them in order:

Jan 1st at 1:45 (7two) - 1998 Round 4 Melbourne versus Carlton. Dees by two points.

Jan 2nd at 3:45 (7two)- 1990 Elimination final Melbourne versus Hawthorn. Dees by 9 points.

Jan 4th at Midnight (Fox 1) - 2008 Round 14 Melbourne versus Brisbane. Dees by 1 point.

Jan 4th at 3:45 (7two) - 1988 Semi final Melbourne versus Collingwood. Dees by 13 points.

Jan 6th at 1:40 (7two) - 1998 Round 8 Melbourne versus Collingwood. Dees by 3 points.

Jan 9th at 6:00 (7two) - 1987 Preliminary final Melbourne versus Hawthorn. Hawks by 2 points.

Jan 11th at 3:45 (7two) - 1988 Elimination final Melbourne versus West Coast. Dees by 2 points.

Be interesting to see whether Joel Macdonald played in that game and, if so, how he went against his future team.

Last night they had Carlton vs Melb from 1998. AMAZING GAME!

Dee's got up by 2 points. Doggy Brown in his 1st game for the club, long blond hair in a pony tail!!! Before the hamgstrings he really looked a player with heaps of dash. Craig Smoker plyed well. Stinga in his 1st game back for 18 months. Jeff White with no centre circle leaped all over Allan with Jimmy on the bench.

TODD VINEY was a superstar, his work rate was 2nd to none!

Lyon and Schwartz fwd line, very potent.

I just saw the second half, Macdonald was injured and didn't feature too often.

The best bit was the perfectly good Justin Murphy goal that got called a point. Followed closely by the J. Mac probable point that was called a goal

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
