Leadership group for 2010

Totally agree with Warnock. Would like to see he or Frawley in there. My reason fr the Frawley card is because he could possibly take it to the next level with some leadership commitments. Without saying too much, it might make him a bit more mature off-field, which may in turn see him take the next step on-field.

Hard call as we probably don't know who the other players see as leaders behind the scenes. I would like to think that Bruce and Green don't get a gig in the LG, they can and will be leaders on the ground, but as the true LG, maybe we should keep this "young team" push and have a young leadership group (eg Grimes, Frawley, Flash, Petterd/Jones, Moloney).

I question Jones/Petterd- I think they will be lucky to get a game in 2010.

I think you are being slightly harsh on Petterd.

I think you are being ridiculous toward Jones.

Who will get the clearances?

Oh, Scully and Trengove are going to be entrusted with that when they are 18 are they? Fantastic. Welcome to the club kids, now go and get the ball at the bottom of the packs...

Moloney and Jones will be responsible for the 'in-and-under' stuff while these toddlers we picked up in the last few drafts have time to grow up.

I would not nominate Sylvia just yet, another year trouble free and possibly. I do not think he has earnt it yet.

Sylvia Is really starting to become a leader of the club but I have to agree with you on this. It was only last year he was suspended for breaking team rules and also king hitting somebody behind play. He's getting better though. If he keeps well behaved id say leadership group in 2011

Not convinced one or two off field events and of a few injuries should result in one of our most senior players being excluded from the leadership group.

I hope he comes into serious consideration. I'd almost prefer Sylvia to one of the old heads, as he'll still be there during our next flag.

Beamer or Sylvia for the next captain. Someone with a bit of grunt.

Then Davey, J.Mac, Green and Bruce to fill out the leadership group. I wouldn't put blokes like Grimes in there just yet, but I agree with him being a future captain.

Grimes may miss out on the fact that he hasn't even played 20 games yet. I'm a fan of Grimes and he's obviously a fan favourite, but I'd suggest at least 50ish games is needed to be a leader at the club.

I like the idea of Moloney or Sylvia as captain. Although, the amount of games missed due to injuries is a bit of a concern. I'd want to see them both replecate their seasons from last year before giving them the captaincy.

I think he could be a great leader. If he's ready then Id love him to be In our leadership group. He's definitely saying the right things. Lets see him keep improving In that area.

Giving Sylvia a leadership role also would give him responsibility and this may result in more consistency therefore leading by example

I have seen Davey give away stupid free kicks when he is under pressure, or or getting close attention from taggers. I'm not sure whether he has the temperament to be captain, leadership group would be fine in though.

Warnock could be in the leadership group, i don't think he is captain material.

I think Davey cut a lot of that out of his game last year. He still did it occassionally but so do Ablett, Boomer Harvey, Judd etc. Davey is now in the top bracket of players tagged in every single game, it's not because he's a superstar but because there is no-one else worth tagging. Hopefully very soon that changes.

Time to put our heads together to come up with a leadership group. Our Football club initially stated that Ball would be invaluable with our young group- However I believe we have good leaders now and are able to groom others.

My leadership group is:

Jnr McDonald,Davey, Green, Bruce, Moloney & Grimes. Who else do you see could step up into this group.

Await you thoughts on who you believe should lead our team.

Good to see the leadership group named- Junior Captain- and six other leaders- Davey & Rivers getting a gig for the first time ,others being, Moloney, Green, Bruce & Miller

I'm a little surprised by Rivers, but not so much the rest. Seems a good mix of on field and off field leaders

They've clearly gone for experiance rather than potential. That's not too bad. Grimes and Morton are both 2nd year players and although they're popular with the fans and good players, but not be suitable leaders to their older team mates at the moment.

It shows the club values Rivers. He started brilliantly, but has struggled with injuries since. If he can get up and running, he could be a sensational way to strengthen our defence, and possibly mean that Garland is forced to play up forward.

Sounds like they just chose the 7 oldest players on the list, nothing amazing about next years group.

Quite possibly Miller as the "forward" leader and Rivers as the "backline" leader?! Maybe they were looking for leaders over all areas of the ground - especially seeings the majority of the others will play in the middle?!

If he can get up and running ...

Rivers played 20 games in 2009 ... only Davey, Morton and Moloney played more.

I thought the same thing...

Maybe the players chose the 7 players who would be our best leaders now.

The time for Grimes and Co will come.

I was a little surprised that one of the younger brigade wasn't included- however,on reflection Davey & Rivers getting a gig for the first time ,others being, Moloney, Green, Bruce & Miller brings leadership all other the ground with McDonald as Captain- we will have Rivers captaining the backline- Moloney- Centre, Miller, if he gets a game- forward with Davey, Green & Bruce wherever. With McDonald expecting retirement at the end of the year, Bruce & Green will be the veterans leaving, Davey, Rivers, Moloney & Miller as the ones to be groomed as the next captain. I'm told Rivers has done exceptionally well with Leadind Solutions- the company we have used to assist in the development of leaders over the last couple of years. No doubt the opportunity in 2010 is for Grimes,Morton,Sylvia to step up to be included in 2011.Miller himself will be nearing the veteran class after spending the end of his 9th season with the club.He was recruited in 2001.

Sorry about the poor post.... I was surprised that Davey was only included this year.... everyone wanted him to be captain if JMac gave it the flick but he isn't even in the leadership which I thought was interesting.....

I want Brent as the Captain because I love the way he plays football but I have some guys within the club that dispute this because he can't communicate outside the football field as a captain, which is a must in todays game..... interesting thoughts.... although I would prefer the guy that could inspire as the capt on the field rather than a media spokesperson

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
