After this draft- with the amount of midfielders and ruckman we have now - we need to invest in a first class ruck coach- Any suggestions?

Not so sure we need anyone else, but always look to improve mentoring.

Someone like a Simon Madden, Luke Darcy, even Spida Everitt or Monkhorst.

I had in mind someone like a Paul Salmon , especially now that we have got and in particular Fitzpatrick and Gawn.Another that hit my mind is a former employee- Darren Flanigan- if he could make time available as he is currently Football Manager at Dandenong Stingrays.

While Maddern is the last great ruckman its important to have fresh thought which can only be acheived by someone recent

People bringing Newman,s name to the table need a straight jacket as he was very ordinary and even less have the ability to teach

Even the rules have changed and nobody knows that better than Jeff White

You are kidding right? We'd be damn lucky to have Newman even stop in once a month to do a session on skills.

If you want someone recent who knows the role of a modern ruck you could always ask Jeff White to come back to the club.

Its obvious that the distance between your view on Newman,s ruck coaching ability and mine is similar to christpher hitchens and the pope on religion

Just throwing some names out there that were associated with successful teams.

Not pushing any individual but they must have played under the new centre circle restrictions and succeeded. Jeff White didn't, so who is a recently retired ruckman who has succeeded under the new rules?

I was at Junction Oval this morning and was taslking about a ruck coach- David Loats was our part time coach last season, and to my knowledge has not been reappointed as yet and a name was mentioned to me that the club should consider Robert Campbell formally of the Hawks

He was serviceable in spite of injury problems. I wouldn't be opposed to the idea.

It is a lot harder to speculate on coaches as a supporter, as, unlike the individual's football ability, none of us has any idea how capable they are in the fields of teaching, understanding the game, analysis and communicating ideas.

Best leave this to the professionals as we have not even limited evidence of these things; we actually have none whatsoever.

And results themselves aren't always a true indicator either - you could have the best coach in the AFL, but if he's trying to teach a donkey how to play ruck, chances are he will not succeed.
