From the Casey Scorpions website

Simpson calls Casey Home.

Highly rated tall forward Scott Simpson has committed to Casey for season 2010. Many experts believe Simpson was unlucky to be delisted as he had two unlucky years with injuries at Geelong.

Simpson said he was shocked when delisted by the Cats last month, but remained determined to play at the highest level.

KC - whilst on the subject of Casey FC, I was interested to read about the club's Sandown Classic Day.

Myself and a couple of Demon mates used to attend the Noble Park FC day at the Classic and had a great time.

We were sad that it fell over.

I was wondering if there was an opening next year for a table or two of Demonlanders to attend, and if so you might remember to spread the word?

I understand if it's strictly a 'closed' function.

Lol what if he gets picked up by a club on Thursday???

What if? The answer to that is pretty obvious: he'll play for the AFL club. It makes sense to cover all bases though; by signing for a VFL club he guarantees that he will be playing football on a reasonably high level next year.

I'm pretty sure this guy is a 200cm- plus ruckman .... which begs the question - who plays where when all our rucks are fit?

No this is Scott Simpson not Dawson Simpson who is the 200+cm young ruckman at Geelong. I think Scott is originally from Dandenong Stingrays so it makes sense that he'll play at Casey. A Geelong supporting mate thought he goes pretty well, but his kicking for goal isn't great. So I'd be a little worried if I was a Casey supporter about him and Newton in the same forward line. Might need quite a few scoring shots to win games.

You have been reading the book the Draft too much, you have Dawson Simpson on your mind!

He was mates with McEvoy now at St Kilda.

Again you get you're facts wrong.

Scott Simpson is a forward at 196 cm. Please post facts after you research them and don't let your excitement over some things make you post wrong information. You're better than that!

KC, is there any word as to whether James Wall and Peter Faulks are going to be at the club next year, or are the rumours in Inside Football they're going to be poached by Peter German in his move to Williamstown true?

I haven't had a great deal of time recently due to work demands to catch up with what's happening at the club. However, according to an item in the Williamstown News, Peter Faulks has signed with the Williamstown Football Club. Faulks has had a close relationship with German as they are both products of the Oak Park Football Club.

This is a blow to the Scorps because Faulks had an outstanding debut season at Casey which resulted in him finishing second in the Scorpions Best and Fairest and it will be hard to cover for the 195cm key defender who played well on the best key forwards in the VFL last year. There were a couple of others at the club from that area namely Rian McGough and Chris Clay from memory but I haven't heard about what they're doing yet, nor anything about James Wall.

The national draft has come and gone and I suppose the club is breathing a sigh of relief that none of its players have been taken so far (the PSD and rookie drafts are still to come). Alex Silvagni has been training with Fremantle and Northern Territorian Pierce Liddle was also in the draft mix (but more likely as a rookie). And of course, no club has claimed Simpson - yet.

There's a good batch of kids coming through the ranks from Gippsland Power and locally and Brad Gotch is sure to attract some good talent to the club as he is a noted VFL coach with premierships at two clubs under his belt.

Then there is the wealth of young and exciting talent introduced in recent years by the Melbourne Football Club, many of who will be cutting their teeth with the Scorpions during 2010. As long as the club isn't hit by the injury plague it suffered in the second half of 2009, there should be plenty of interest in the events at Casey Fields.

It might be worthwhile bringing this sort of suggestion up when the club has it's next function. They're usually advertised well in advance on the club website www.scorpions.au

Its not clear what promises were made to John Meesen and Michael Newton about rookie drafting them if they weren't picked up by another club.

Obviously, whatever happens, the club has to compensate one or both of them if not rookied and would also need to consider the consequences of any flak it might receive by breaching a contract (this didn't seem to worry Hawthorn when it dumped Mitch Thorp). Still, if John Meesen's injury persists the question needs to be raised as to whether we should rookie him in circumstances where he is unlikely to play much footy in the final year of his contract.

In any event, assuming these blokes are fit, could the club join with Casey in offering either or both of them new contracts with the Scorpions and paying out the balance of their contracts either partly or in full in that way?

The result could well be a win-win for all concerned. Melbourne could free up a spot to rookie list a Dylan Grimes, Casey would still have the services of a quality footballer or two and added depth and the players would be looked after financially and remain in a high standard football environment.

Back on deck after an extended holiday and I haven't had the opportunity to make contact with anyone from the Casey Scorpions as yet.

However, just prior to the Christmas break I noticed an item in Inside Football indicating that, in addition to Scott Simpson, Brad Gotch was keen to secure former Collingwood listed player, Daniel Nicholls and ex Geelong VFL top up player Chris Urie who is a Gippsland lad. I understand that Urie has elected to play with his local side and have yet to hear whether Nicholls has signed with the Scorps.

Nicholls is a 22 year old rover type from the Stingrays who played one game with Collingwood in 2007 against the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco Oval. Gotch coached him for a couple of years at Williamstown in the time when the Seagulls were aligned with the Magpies.

Generally, at this time of year there is always a high turnover of players at VFL clubs. I expect that there will be lots of new young blood coming in from the local area and TAC Cup feeder club, Gippsland Falcons.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
