I doubt they'd be given one-year contracts for 2010, which is the only way they'd be out the door at the end of '10. It's not impossible, but I'd be very surprised. Bartram's a fair chance to get the chop now and then it's between T-Mac and Cheney for the last spot in my view. I'd like two more vacancies for pick 34 and Spencer.

Wouldn't it make more sense to keep him on the rookie list, considering the change to the rookie list rules.

I'd keep Spenser AND McKenzie on the rookie list. If they are good enough, they'll be upgraded at the end of next season, where there'll be plenty of spots on the list considering Bell, Newton, PJ etc come out of contract

I may have skipped the ruling on the rookie list, so forgive me, but if we re-rookie Spencer, can he be picked up by another club this off-season? I'd just assumed we would need to upgrade him before the draft.

I would throw Maric into the group that need to kick on

Agree. Even though he is still young, was pciked up underage etc etc I'd like to see a lot more from him this season. He has only shown small flashes so far.

- D. Bail

Bell presumably.

Ed: Whoops already there. Bail must perform in 10?

Look on the bright side.

If you liked Buckley and thought he was stiff to be dumped (not me - he's borderline hack), then the rest of the players who weren't dumped must be guns.

Players who look certain to be on the chopping block for next season:

- J. McDonald (retire)

- D. Bell

- M. Newton

- B. Miller

- P. Johnson

- D. Bail

R. Bail.....or D. Bailey?

Today's delistings don't preclude more cuts to the list. The article confirms this when it states that the "definitive order for the AFL Draft will be finalised after the second list lodgment on Wednesday November 11."

Thought Bartram would go before Bucks, will there be more to come?

I agree i feel for buckley thought he showed some promise no offence to the valenti lovers or him himself but never thought him up to AFL standard

Is Buckley to old to put on the rookie list?

Would he be worth a shot on the rookie list?

too old i think but i like him

Tough, tough game footy!

More suprised over Buckley than Valenti, but both could feel they deserve still to be there as opposed to some of the other players on the list.

But when you look at some of the players in the same draft that have gone on with their careers, I guess you can understand why Buckley is where he is at.

Patrick Ryder, Mitch Clark, Sam Gilbert, Shaun Higgins, Marc Murphy, Bernie Vince, etc etc.......some of these guys are reaching the peak of their powers, and Buckley has struggled to get a consistent senior game.

Hope they both get the chance to continue their careers elsewhere.

AFL is a [censored] of an industry which will cut you down as quickly as it builds you up.

While this is the right decision by the club, it is tough when you think that these guys are young people who are facing the end of their dreams. To be hit with that reality so early on in life would be devastating.

I'd like to thank both of them for their service and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

And so say us all......hopefully :P !!!

I expect at least another player will be cut from our primary list.

You could make a case for Buckley being better than one or two uncontracted players, and perhaps a couple more listed players in total, but it still puts him in the bottom 10%.

Posted

im not fussed by either of these cuts. Buckley and Valenti have shown promise, but this comes as no surprise.

reasons why

Our midfield is getting bigger, considering that Blease Strauss and Bail have either yet to play or only played 5 minutes.

We will probably be getting Ball, who is another midfielder.

We will be getting Scully and Trengove who are midfielders.

and these 2 are the players that i would probably be at the bottom of the list in this position. sad times for the players, but it's just the way it goes.

I know we have a surplus of midfielders now, but valenti was never given a chance to prove himself. 1 game on 8 games off, it was a joke. There's plently of players in this game that arnt lightning fast. Fierce at the ball, good footskills and a good leader.

Buckley was just unlucky due to injury, but valenti was robbed!

To me Strauss is not a midfielder he is an attacking half back.

All delisted players should be disappointed, especially considering Miller got his contract extended.

Nevertheless, I personally think that you can throw a blanket 10-11 players that I wouldn't have any issues with them being delisted due to having horrible foot skills.

Miller is a far superior player to Buckley and Valenti!

Maybe its the lack of success at MFC over many years, but I just cant believe so many posters getting distraught over players who at their best were borderline players.

If MFC are to get better, then its inevitable that uncontracted players who are at the bottom level of list are going to get cut. And its going to happen more often going forward as another poster put it.

I hope MFC does improve significantly over the next couple of years and develop a couple of stars so poster wont have to eulogise the ordinary.

I can appreciate the decision behind the delisting your magesty. As I said, he just wasn't given the oppurtunity.

Who are the posters getting distraught?

In my opinion it seems most posters are very understanding of the de listings.

No he isnt

Cant kick it, poor decision making and no defensive skills.

Next.

Spot on. Buckley synopsis the same as mine, therefore no loss. Valenti a bit stiff. But unfortunately just not good enough. A bit like Godfrey. No point keeping these blokes with limited upside because they have a go.

Would people prefer to see Valenti starting in the middle next year or Scully?

Blease or Buckley?

Let's back our draft picks and importantly get games into them.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
