Is there a reason why with picks 1 and 2 this year we look like chasing midfielders? Hmmmm.

Any chance we have ordinary midfielder stocks?

Because they are the standout players in the draft. Should become elite. We don't have any of those mids. Haven't for as long as I can remember - I'm talking Buckley, Voss elite.

totally agree with you- we need elite footballers and a full time specialist coach such as Scot West to develop them.To me this is our fundamental requirement and someone to assist with kicking for goal.

After today's news regarding Wayne Carey, I now feel he is most probably best to sort out his own personal life. With brother charged over drugs, himself being investigated further and now today reporting his scrap with ex girlfriend -we all could do without this. Bring on OX ,Neita or someone to help our forwards please is all I ask

It is my belief that the weak link in our Coaching is Mahoney. He was a very tenacious footballer who wouldn't die. Great to develop young small footballers(maybe) but we need to have someone for others to look up to.Someone whom was a great kick -to show players , if we retain them- mainly Newton and or Miller where to shoot.Ido not rate Mahoney as a coach for what they require. They need a SPECIALIST It was brought to my attention today- someone lke Quinlan or Roach would be great.I here Watts is a very good kick which is great. If Newton and or Miller are retained..gee and if they can turn those points into goals, we will really be successful next year. Also, whilst we have been and will recruit great kicking midfielders ,it is the forwards who need to finish it off.THEY CAN MAKE OR BREAK A GAME

You see, this is all nonsense.

No-one on this thread knows the workings of the Senior coach, let alone the Line coaches. You all seem so daft when you give these nonsensical "reasons" for a coach to not be up to the standard required.

Our forward line gets starved every week and is given awful delivery and still looks reasonably dangerous.

Any future hiring would be concentrated on helping Bate, Watts, Jurrah, and Wonaeamirri.

Not Miller and Newton. Teaching them to kick straight will only help Peter German...

I could accuse you of being the 'know-all' because you are indicting the coaching of Josh Mahoney on very little evidence.

He's a great bloke and doesn't deserve being rubbished because he doesn't have a 'name.'

When we are getting 55 Inside 50s a game and are not turning that dominance into winning scores then you can say something is rotten down forward at the Dees.

My understanding this website allows one to have an opinion. Mine is that Mahoney is the weak link in our coaching. I have not been critical of him at all. All I am saying we need a specialist to coach, mainly our talls in kicking. Please tell me where I have been critical of Mahoney at all. Please read my points before you go off your gab.

You said you didn't rate Mahoney as a coach for 'what they require.' Do they require coaching?

You want Neita to come back for one day a week to teach Miller and Newton to kick properly, say that.

I want someone to teach Jack Watts, Matty Bate, and Liam Jurrah to lead to the right areas, to lead to space and to learn to use their body better in contests.

I have no reason to suspect that Mahoney cannot help them in these areas.

BTW, teaching Miller and Newton to kick at this stage would be like getting a pedicure on a gangrenous foot.

Sure you have an opinion. however let others have theirs.

I go and watch training reguarly. He does not seem to have the knack to show ,in particular Newton or Miller how to go about forward work and kicking in particular.I think Peter German has given Newton, confidence but again, kicking is a specialist role. Clubs have used people like Brian Taylor for specialist kicking. They say, Paul Hudson at Collingwood has been brilliant along with Blake Carracella. We need to assist our forwards when the need arises with what ever they need. Mahoney himself was a reasonable kick, but we have been deficient in this area for a long time- not blaming Mahoney, just trying to get him an expert to assist him.I did not say I wanted Neitz,

alone. Someone like the Oz , whom has helped at the Bulldogs over the last two years as a specialist in helping their kicking would be sensational. Helped Minson out in particular. He also would assist yourpoint also being:

rpfc,

Trying to bully people into agreeing with your opinion is pathetic. An opinion on a forum is just that. Whether its justified or just a thought based on personal observations is not the issue here. No one has to answer to you, why they have put up an opinion, so if you dont agree just chill out and write something sensible, without your sarcasm!

Some of what you say is credible, some not, but dont be the judge and jury. I have had a bit to say myself but I do not expect everyone to agree or even like what I have posted.

Since when is having an opinion on a coach indicting that coach?

Perhaps you just need to read the posts more closely and then reply without the put downs.

We dont have to justify our opinions to you!

I am happy to hear yours and everyone else's replies.

And by the way, I am not daft, and I dont think many on here are! IMO Mahoney did struggle and in a similar way so did Williams. If you dont agree fine, but let us all have a bit of a say without your final judgement. You might be occasionally wrong; like me!

People, this is the whole point of a forum - to debate things like this and pick holes in others' arguments.

Stop being so bloody precious.

And to truly judge Mahoney, you'd have to be privy to the inner sanctum.

If you were to judge him from the outside, a good place to start would be measuring how many scoring opportunities are created by our forward line from entries into the 50, then compare them to toher sides.

Conversion rate is part of it, but hacks who can't kick can make this an inaccurate measure and unfortunately we have too many Newtons and Millers; players of that ilk.

Enforcer25, by all means pick holes in opinions but why do some posters get specifically personal in their answers. For christs sake we all support the same team and should have a bit of respect for others, even when we dont agree.

Just put your own ideas up and leave out the personal criticisms.

By the way why would you have to be privy to the inner sanctum, to have an opinion on Mahoney? I am judged on my performance at work , most people are. If you dont perform you dont get paid or perhaps dont even have a job.

I have opinions based on my observations and who I have spoken to at the club. I dont expect everyone will agree but thats OK. I dont hop into people just because they disagree with me. I respect what you have said and happen to think you're wrong.

I wont call you precious or daft as this is the sign of someone who cant agree to disagree.

Get off the personal stuff and post some positive opinions so that we might have some intelligent debates over where our club is heading. Its actually looking pretty good for the long term. Go Demons!

Ok, now we are getting somewhere. What leads you to believe he is knack-less. I, and probably the club, have little idea whether JM can coach but I just feel you should provide more detail.

I think Peter German has given Newton, confidence but again, kicking is a specialist role. Clubs have used people like Brian Taylor for specialist kicking. This is the guts of what you are saying, and I agree to an large extent, a specialist kicking coach is a luxury I hope we can afford next year and in the very important years to come. However, with all due respect, you were not arguing an addition to the coaching staff but a replacement for Mahoney.

RSPC-please note I respect your opinion but do not belttle minei

The ones who are belittleling your opinion are the ones ignoring this thread. Perhaps I shouldn't have said that this was all nonsense because it wasn't. The nonsense I saw was the indictment of Mahoney and I broadstroked the rest of what you said. And for that I apologise.

uhh... i think you'll find that for at least the last 2 seasons they have had specialist kicking coaching and analysis by biomechanics experts.

A lot of preseason work has been done on re-tooling kicking styles and working on different kicking drills to improve field kicking, not so sure about goal kicking specifically.

I know, having been told this by Sean Wellman himself and from speaking to one of the actual experts himself, he showed me a few of the techniques they use

Don't accuse me of being a bully just because I ask for clarification on an opinion with a caustic tone. If you want unchallenged opining on a particular subject: get a blog and disable the comments.

This is a forum, designed to offer the chance for people to get real time feedback on their opinions from people who are interested in the same subject as them.

Some of what you say is credible, some not, but dont be the judge and jury. I have had a bit to say myself but I do not expect everyone to agree or even like what I have posted.

Just trying to tease out why many feel Mahoney cannot coach. And removing him is an indictment on his coaching.

If you don't want to justify your opinions you don't have to. But get off your tall stallion.

I am happy to hear yours and everyone else's replies.

Final judgement?

Hardly. I want those in this thread advocating the dismissal of Mahoney to give me the reasons why. I want their replies.

I shouldn't have used 'daft' or 'nonsense' to describe your opinions and for that I apologise.

But an opinion without evidence isn't much of an opinion at all. I will try a more sophisticated adjective next time.

I observed Mark Williams in the box of Eastern Ranges last Saturday for the whole match -whether he was there for assistance or just there as an observer I found it very interesting as much as Wheatley whom stated earlier has been assisting there the whole year. We must have a strong synergy with the club in some sense.. Does anyone know?

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were.
