Dr..if you bothered to read.. I was looking past the highlights reel !! :rolleyes; I came across him some whiles back when Aunty was showing games form all over.. I watched many that featured Gumby. He has a raw talent. He could have been much better mentored and coached but has done quite well with what he had to go with.

So less of the sarcasm and more of the addresing of the subject at hand..huh . What drew me to Daw in the first place was the parallel with Gumby but in this instance we have the talent at an earlier juncture.

When you see what some decent players were at "that"raw young time in their career and you observe what Daw and similar have you cant but wonder what they might become.

For those of you relying on youtube HIGHLIGHTS packages to guide you in an assesment of a player - you need to be mindfull that for every positive piece of play shown on there, there can also be 4-5 stuff ups.

My case in point:

If you watch the following youtube clip about this player Paul Mugumbwa from South Freo - you would think he's AFL worthy, and that he's a star (as it is a VERY IMPRESSIVE highlights package).

Truth is, he's not .. lol

Beware!

If you thought his youtube reel was good, you might want to check this Mature age prospect.

He may have missed the boat because of his age but he has some impressive moves!

Wow after watching that footage i gota say, if his available with our 5th round pic id take him possibly 4th.

Defo worth the risk imo.

momentary briliance???

he seemed to do alot of momentary briliance in the video

yeah thats what caught my eye..

it was like.. o.k., amother hopeful..see what he has to offer..

Then it was like, the really good highlights and contests kept coming.. and his kicking for goal..

schmick!

If you took Daw's footage you see there and could magically alter it to be (I hate to say it) just another caucasian kid, running around doing what he's doing, there'd be a LOT more said about him. He's not the perfect prospect... seems to run in a straight line perhaps... but like I said, if a 195cm white kid from the Stingrays put together that exact same highlights reel, I think you'd see us talking about him as a possible first rounder.

I think the opposite. If he was a tall, lanky caucasian kid getting six or eight touches a game and turning it over with half of them nobody would look twice at him.

I think we'd be absolutely crazy not to pick up Daw. If we get a tall forward for pick 11 I'd even be prepared to take Daw with pick 18. He has so much potential. He is still growing and could end up being 197-198. With his tremendous spring and long arms he could be a very good ruckman who goes forward and kicks goals. Admittedly the Youtube stuff is a highlight compilation but his speed, spring and liking for goals is very impressive.

In relation to Sibosado, I was all for taking him in the PSD. Lucky they didn't. ....JURRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, Pickers was talking about him on SEN this morning and said that he'd be surprised if Daw wasn't picked up as a rookie but could now see him going in the National draft as a lower pick. I just think he has too much potential to pass up. He seems to have a real determination to succeed and we can already see that has physical strength that will only increase with maturity. He also seems to be generating more interest out there as the draft approaches. I'd hate to miss out on him.

pick 34, no earlier.

And even that is way too early for him, its just i think we will not use any ND draft picks beyond that one.

I'd much rather a good ruckman at that pick - Vardy, Craig, Fitzpatrick, Mitchell...

yes...now everyone will want one !!

Thought he was worth a look at ages ago and now the mainstream media are catching up full time. Nth and Doggies will probably be front runners in wantinghim but as they are unlikley to use a 1st round pick the first opportunities for both are then at 21 and 31. we could easily gazump them at 18 if we thought him worth it.

With 3 really good picks for 1, 2, and 11 you could be tempted to go left field with this guy. Yes he's raw and unpolished...but then most gems are when first hacked out of the ground...its only when you cut and polish them that their brilliance eminates.

When first unearthed many thought he was hardly worth a rookying let alone drafting. History will probably show he wont go much past 30 ( pick ) If hes there at 34 wed be mad not to take the punt

Theres just something about this bloke that screams potential. Love to draft him..dont think we will..bit of a shame that. Good luck Majak

Considering we wont use a pick after 34 i would say only rookie would be an option.

he wont last into the rookie draft...some one will take him in the ND. Too many eyes on him now

I watched the youtube footage. He appears to move slowly, but it's quite deceptive, as you see blokes chasing him hard and they don't catch him. I hope we get him. I could see him monstering some blokes in 3 years time when he weighs about a 100 keg.

Unless someone the club really rates falls to pick 18, Id be using it for Daw. Before Norths 2nd round picks, just to be sure. But i dont think we will..

I'd take the chance on getting a possible star + star attraction a bit earlier than intended, rather than take a Talia or Butcher type where you pretty much know what you are getting.

IMO, Ive seen Daw pull superstar moves on the field. But with Talia and Butcher, even tho they may be more consistant or been in the game longer, I havent yet.

He seems to be on a mission to represent his people from Africa.. Do we know anyone else on that sort of mission for the Dees? ;) Except he'd be representing millions, not hundreds like smaller communities of Cenrtal oz and Tiwi Is.

Makes me wonder, LJ, Wonna, Watts and Daw in our forward line. Nice.

Our next FP / Relieving Ruck.. Fingers crossed

If "Magic Door" turns out a half decent player and we get him with a late pick or rookie pick it could be a very good result for the MFC and the sponsors as he is likely to generate a bit of publicity for himself and the club.

I have no problem with Majak playing for the Dees even though he's from Africa, but now that Scott West is on board, are we going to start letting people from the western suburbs play for Melbourne?

Rookie selection at best for me.

He wasn't invited to draft camp. Has averaged 2 (yes that's right) 2 posessions a game this year. I feel he's still got a very long way to go (possibly another 3 or 4 years at least in the system) to be developed into an AFL standard ruckman. Whilst he's raw, mobile and is a feel good story, I feel that he's best left to the rookie draft.

That is a telling statistic. It is also the number of testicles owned by Barry Dawson.

I'm off him now. He can stay in the western suburbs.

Totally agree...way overhyped long long term project player. With the picks we have we will have far better selections to consider. I would have thought Troy Taylor or Liam Patrick, or Butcher, Black, Talia or Carlisle would all be better picks for where our selections will be taken.

So if it takes 4-5 years to turn teh guy into something special that would be about right for our premiership tilt right?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
