Gameday - Melbourne v Carlton

He is a muppit - has no club loyalty, is so desperate to hang onto his job, he'd rather player players out of position than win.

You're a clown. Would you say that to his face? If he was so desperate to hang on to his job, he'd have eeked out a handful more wins by playing seniors instead of kids, retaining older players the last few years. How is losing 18 games this year "desperation to hang on to his job?"

Me don't need to embarrass myself when I can leave that to the coach.

Aaah. No. You'll only become more and more embarrassed when Bailey puts this team in positions they can win a game from. We were keeping up with a potential top 4 side for a half, until he took Frawley off Fev, and the floodgates opened.

If you care to comment on this:

"Bailey is managing the list to maximise our draft position, thereby maximising our chance to win a flag in the future."

Then perhaps we could take you seriously. But you won't. And the reason you won't is because you can't disprove this. Until you do, why bother to pass comment and judge a man who is doing, most likely, exactly as he is instructed by his management?

At the game like I am every week. Not on demonology. I've been following the dee's for three decades now and this is the lowest point. Like it or not, I bagged Carlton supporters for their tanking... won't be defending the dee's tanking.

Some people have no self respect. Getting stuck in - just have serious doubts about the football department that is all.

We lose to the 5th best team in the league, arguably the best midfield, and it is our lowest ebb in 30 years?

You are being disengenuous.

And the 'demonology' reference is a nice touch - attempting to look like someone who never reads the site (and therefore got the name wrong) and has only come on because you have been brought to breaking point.

Make no mistake, and if this next statement makes my 'self-respect' dissolve then so be it, the actions of the FD since the Port Adelaide game have given the MFC the chance to have a serious crack at a flag.

We will lose our 54th game since 2007 on Sunday.

We 'deserve' that PP.

But the rules are rigid, and if it were our 53rd loss next Sunday we would have thrown away an opportunity of a generation that was right in front of us, but we failed to take.

Thankfully, the FD - of which you have doubts - are not as precious and shortsighted as yourself and have done the right thing by the MFC and its supporters.

It's a real problem and something that has to be investigated.

It looks very much like we have 20 fit players at half time in the second last game with only 2 or 3 available for Casey including Paul Wheatley who's starting in the twos and is probably there just to qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, Collingwood have all bar one or two players available for their two sides this weekend.

I think you'll find ALL the AFL teams have a lot of players either out injured or playing, but carrying little niggles. In our position, we're simply making sure our squad is ready for 2010. There's not a whole lot to worry about. I think you'd find at least half those on the injured list at the moment, playing if we were pushing for the finals or in them.

AHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

This is unbelievable. What's going on with Thornton?!!! Wasn't he the flavour of trade week a few years ago?

He'd easily be the weakest defender in the league. The amount of times Neitz killed him was ridiculous (no disrespect to Neita). He's absolutely hopeless. I believe Hawthorn were interested in him, but only because they completely lacked any defenders at the time.

Did anyone hear Andy Maher's comments on Channel Ten, at the start of the final quarter? If you've got FOX SPORTS NEWS, turn it on now and you hear him having a go at us for tanking. Coming from a Carlton supporter, I find it very rich. Stupid little [censored].

I spent more time abusing him than I did the umpires which says a lot. But let's face it - if you put him, a football and an opposition player within 50 feet of each other he would cry like a little girl. He's a joke and not even a funny one.

Bambi? And only YOU use it?

What is the point of referring to him as that then?

Whenever we play Collingwood I refer to Josh Fraser as Lauren Jackson, but I don't expect other people to know what I'm talking about.

Have explained it before that's why.

Ah. I see... Quite cerebral for a footy fan.

Don't know that he's the best candidate though is he? It's only really been this season.

And face a fair bake from Garry Lyon for it after the game on triple M I believe... (heard this 2nd hand)

Id be extremely disappointed in Gazza if this were true. Its about winning the wars and not necessarily all batles, about winning a premiership(s) not necessarily all games. Amazing how this simple concept is beyond the comprehension of some

I think you'll find he did everything BUT have a go at Bailey. Much the same as he has on footy classified.

He was more taking a shot at the AFL, blaming them for the current tanking situation, and blaming them for how games seem to be played without winning being the main target.

Thankyou Dappa for the further clarification. it didnt sound much like the Gazza that has supported Bails thoughout his tenure.

The AFL has created a monster.it is though a monster of convenience as it will claimthat despite its uglines the PP has a levelling efect. It does but it needs an overhaul and facelift.

We, as a club, may well look back one day and think how lucky we were to be the last real beneficiaries of "the gift "

In the overview of the game..its not a matter of winning...but wining when it matters.

Strangely in the sport of kings many a trainer enters a horse not to win..but to accomplish a specific goal. Its part of 'settuing up' then ..its entered for the real event it wants to claim and hopefuly does. Lesson..its literaly horses for courses.

Melbourne is being 'set up' for the real events, these past two years are just a path to our destination ;)

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
