Interesting? No? Just the thing for a trade room... ;)

Perhaps a good young player and pick 6 for pick 2?

In the article they say they're looking for a good small forward. We have a number of them. Maybe our second rounder and Wonna/Jetta/Maric or Dunn (gotta give something to get something) or whoever else for their pick 6, giving us picks 1, 2 and 6.

I can fantasise can't I?

putting aside the reality that i dont think they'd go for wonna and the second rounder, but i don't believe we really can afford to trade wonna for anything. with whelan retiring, davey and wonna are the ones to step up and take the young aboriginal boys under their wing, including jurrah. wonnas value to the team is much more than from a playing point of view at this point in time.

Pic 6, no thanks i think its cursed :D

Last 10 years.

1998 : Murray Vance (delisted by Carlton)

1999 : Damian Cupido (delisted by Essendon)

2000 : Dylan Smith (delisted by Nth Melb)

2001 : Ashley Sampi (delisted by West Coast)

2002 : Steven Salopek (dropped by Port and trying to get back in the team via the SANFL)

2003 : Kepler Bradley (struggling at Fremantle)

2004 : Tom Williams (going ok at Bulldogs but is generally a much maligned player by the Bulldogs supporters)

2005 : Beau Dowler (finding it hard to get a game even with the Hawks having lots of injuries to KPP's.

2006 : Mitch Thorp (always injured but hasn't really set the football world on fire when available either)

2007 : David Myers (see Mitch Thorp)

2008 : Chris Yarran (poor work ethic and off field issues haven't exactly made for a great debut year.)

P.S thanks to big footy.

Lets hope if we get the pic we choose wisely

This is slightly off topic, but would anyone consider trading our 2nd pick(Trengrove) to Port Adelaide for their first round pick(8 or 9) and Salopek? We could still get a Dustin Martin or Gary Rohan, or even Butcher if he slips with that pick.

Don't they already have LeCras AND McKinley?

I know they want LeCras in the midfield and McKinley is more an undersized big forward like Robertson, but really...

And I'd trade Wonna, Jetta or Maric and our 3rd round pick in a heartbeat, but not our 2nd.

They are worth quite a bit more than that. And even still, I'd probably regret it later.

i'd say west coast would already have someone in mind.

Shane Valenti???

Seriously you might be right.

It could also be smokescreen to see what gets thrown up without being serious. eg McIntosh at NM last year.

I'd give up any of our small forwards for pick 6 (Maric, Wonaeamirri etc) in a flash. Shame that's not what they are hinting at though. :P

Yeah, they're fishing alright. Testing the waters, but are contemplating one or two forwards for sure. Might just be someone like Brendan Fevola.

I'd give one of them for pick 6 too. ;)

No! Never. It won't be us trading for it. The ones we have that are worth it are still getting better. Lake might go judging on the Age article but that is pie in the sky still.

I don't think we need WCE's first round draft pick. We'll likely have 1, 2 and 18 which is plenty.

We'd have to give up a Davey to get it.

If anything I reckon we should put pick 18 on the table and see if we can trade for a ready made player that can help us get off the bottom next year.

Probably true. Someone at our club?

1, 2 and 18 is plenty? So you'd rather we didn't have 1, 2, 6 and 18? I'd love to go into the draft with 1, 2 and 6... But the thing to remember is that it's a skinny draft, and to get pick 6 you have to offload someone who is both a good player and young. We need as much of those two things as we can get, which makes pick 6 in a skinny draft vs say a Wonna/Maric type a bit counter productive and risky. Not to mention we lose a couple of years development. If we could offload a proven performer who has plateaued, then sure... But again, our only resources are players like Jones, McLean... who are absolutely required... The only reason we would take a punt on this is if there was a Vickery lying around at pick 6. If we could get someone like that around there then we would end up pretty much taking needs for our first 3 players, and have what would look like a well rounded list, albeit a green one.

Without those kind of players, I go with my suggestion of coupling our second or third rounder with a player for pick 6. We also would free up space on the list for the PSD pick.

All in all it may appear as though we're in the box seat... the most draft resources (picks), we're on the rebuild, we have a handful of small forwards... but truth be told we just don't have enough that WC would want, given the specifics. Worth a look, but I won't be losing any sleep over it like I did with the Judd debacle.

I thought we were talking about small forwards.

Very mischievous Nasher...

From a pure footballing perspective, I would trade Davey for pick 6 in a heartbeat. However, from an overall club perspective, I don't think we can or should.

He is one of the few players in that mid age bracket (26) and his importance and leadership have certainly seemed to improve this year. Nowhere near captain material in my view, but probably in the 2010 leadership group.

I wouldn't. For mine Davey is a proven good player. I wouldn't ever traded proven good players for draft picks, it's too much of a risk for not that much gain, even if you're talking about a high draft pick like 6. I'd trade a young player who hasn't reached his peak yet; that way you're trading speculative for speculative, rather than proven for speculative.

Not sure that makes as much sense in writing as it did in my head

Davey is becomming pretty much everything you'd want from a top 6 pick.

I can't see the logic in trading him for something you would hope to find in a top 6 pick.
