2010 Members Scarf

They've all got that annoying square MFC logo.

I won't buy any merchandise until it's flicked and replaced by a demon or MFC or something.

Tend to agree i prefer the demon logo afterall that is our nickname

I think option two is the best, followed by option one. Option three sucks - it's the scarf equivalent of Port's or Freo's club song.

Agreed. Will again be giving this one to my girlfriend.

Either 2 or 3. Dont like 1 because of the pattern, 2 is good cos it's simple and 3 is good cos there's a demon on it.

Not a huge deal though.

3 Something different

2 for me

3 is the most innovative and a bit different, so I went for that.

But god our merchandising efforts kill me. Who is designing this stuff???

Wish I had time to do some freelance work for them.

Not that I particularly care (my 2009 one is still in the plastic), but...

...

dam it!!! Looks like the square logo is staying next year!!! :(

Option 3 because it has a demon on it and we are the DEMONS!

I think Jimmy wants the Demon back. May still happen.

Number 3 gets my vote. Number 2 is almost exactly what you can buy at the merchandise stands around the G and 1 is just horrid.

Maybe we could come up with a new piece of clothing/symbol of recognition instead of the scarf. Whilst I like it, I have that many at home I simply don't know what to do with them. Would it be worthwhile to somehow add the level of membership (Bronze, Silver, Gold etc.) to the scarf to recognise and distinguish longer-term members?

What's wrong with a members cap, beany or something else for a change?

How many bloody scarves does the club think we need?

Surely if the club are going to give members free merchandise it is logical to give them something different every year especially so that those who don't/won't or can't afford to buy it are fully decked out.

End Rant.

Oh yeah. Option 2

Go Dees - Building for the Future.

Option 2, but swing the logo 90 degrees so that it matches the 2010 and will sit the right way up when draped around your neck.

That sounds like a good idea, but it's too costly since it would change regularly and you would be making smaller, more specified production runs, which would be both a logistical and financial nightmare.

Besides, since I assume we don't have a large number of gold members, you'd be hard pressed to find overseas factories that will be willing to manufacture such a small quantity (minimum order is probably around 10,000 units since the product itself is highly specified anyway) without charging you ridiculous amounts of money for it.

We need to remember that since the club makes no money on these scarves, they have to keep the costs down to a minimum.

From that perspective, design 2 would be the cheapest to knit because of its repeat bulk pattern, whereas design 3 would be the most expensive. I still like 3 though :D

Surely if the club are going to give members free merchandise it is logical to give them something different every year especially so that those who don't/won't or can't afford to buy it are fully decked out.

Again, the scarf would be the cheapest thing to get made.

Beanies need to be knitted on a circular tube, and caps require a minimum of 3 pattern pieces as well as additional details such as those plastic tabs at the back. That all adds significant costs.

Just be happy that we get something for free given our financial position.

Sorry to sound like a cheapskate, but I know how much other clubs spend on crap membership merchandise each year, and I'd hate to think we spend as much.

Yeah you're right, although I reckon we would have a few Gold Members (myself included I am quite proud to say ;). I know this is a little OT, but is there a level above Gold? I can't find any references to the levels on the club's website.

I am all for a return to a "demonic" logo. I think end of next year would be a perfect time to reintroduce it as we start our ascent of the ladder and other teams start fearing us. This is, of course, on the proviso that it is a fierce, fearsome demon and not some cartoon character.

How many of these things can i wear!!!?? Surely there are other collectibles we could receive? For example caps, pins, T shirts, pens, radios, or may be a snuggie?

There are some highly strung people on this site...

All three look good, the first one is intriguing because it the famous MFC sticker, 24 of them, stuck together.

Second one is your classic two-tone, and the third one has a demon.

But I'm going with '24 stickers.' That's number 1.

Whose with me?

I hope I am right in picking up the sarcasm in that comment, but please don't go giving them any ideas!!!! The day the MFC put Demon Snuggies on sale is the day I dump a tonne of cow manure in front of the rectangular stadium/Casey/MCG offices.

I admit that I'm a bit insane when it comes to our apparel/merchandise, because that's what I study/do for a living.

Also because merchandise is a major revenue source for many AFL clubs, and while I don't know the specifics, I am pretty certain that we don't make a killing in this department.

There is a lot of potential to expand on the merchandise we currently have. I'd also love to know whether Reebok is responsible for the bulk of the design, or whether we have a designer working at the club or whether we employ freelancers.

I keep telling myself that I'll get onto the club and try and offer my help, but I haven't got the time and I'm pretty sure my employer would be pretty [censored] if I did that. One day...

But I'm going with '24 stickers.' That's number 1.

Whose with me?

Not me - that would be my last preference :P

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
