The Bloody Weather Bureau

Every Queen's Birthday, the BOM predicts rain. They've only been correct a couple of times.

I estimate that a prediction of rain reduces the expected crowd by 10 to 15 percent.

I think the bureau takes a very conservative approach as "insurance" against criticism from people venturing out without rain-wear and umbrellas.

However in Melbourne their predictions of rain are almost invariably incorrect. If it DOES rain, it's barely drizzle for 3minutes at a time.

This inaccuracy costs the MFC significant dollars every Q. Birthday.

Who cares just be there! Nothing will stop me!

It could hail golf balls and I would be there. Don't let a little thing like the weather ruin a once a year oppurtunity.

Turn up in force and let the AFL this is OUR game !!!!!!

I think there have been a few pretty thoughtless responses to my post.

Of course the prediction of bad weather won't stop ME from going to see the Demons But it's naive to suggest that it doesn't affect the less dedicated fringe of supporters(eg the types who are joining MFC NOW, when we've been pleading with them to join since the end of last season. ) And don't forget, more than half the supporters will be going for Collingwood. They may not be as stoical as us long-suffering Demons.

As for your condescending remark, Clintbiskit, I'm not suggesting that the BOM is responsible for our low attendances every week. I'm just saying that the QB game is very important to us, and it's bad luck that we rarely have a prediction for pleasant weather that day, though we usually get it. Surely you don't disagree with my contention that crowd attendances are affected by the weather.

I reckon people are very tolerant of BOM inaccuracy. Have a look out the window now(2:30pm). The bureau predicted rain this afternoon. It's a beautiful day!!

Great sking weather.

Is it worth pointing out that it's June, in Melbourne...

We should ty to shift the date, to say, late April.

Be aweseom if we added a few blockbusters in september, too. That'd give us a decent chance of good weather.

Great sking weather.
'skiing'. Not much to ski on at this stage I hear. Some of the Pies players would adapt well at skiing.
Great sking weather.

you know how I can tell from your post that you're a Collingwood supporter..?

Cos you can't fu%&ing spell.

Great sking weather.

Going by your posts, you seem to know alot about snow and the ski season.

Are you sure you're not a closet Melbourne supporter? :P

Give into it. You'll be a far happier boy.

Well our skills are somewhat behind the top teams, So D's bring'em down to our level. The weather will help.

Great sking weather.

"Sking"...WTF is that? Judging by that avatar could it be some new colloquialism for dodging possums whilst motoring under the influence?

Yeaaahhh !!!! What a post !!!

Fancy having Didak as your avatar, It just leaves you wide open.

Of course the weather impacts on attendances (see the Adelaide game), but what do you want the BOM to do exactly?

According to eldersweather website there is at this stage

a 70% chance of 1-5 mm (showers, not rain.)

For what it is worth, they do a very good job.

This prediction could change. And it is only a prediction.

You can take it from a bushie that we are in a prolonged dry period,

lasting so far, for about ten years.

It's unlikely that it will be a wet day. And if it was, all the better for

Brock.

but what do you want the BOM to do exactly?

He wants the BOM to say:

70% chance of JACK WATTS MAGIC

0% chance of acid rain

I don't think a little light rain will effect the crowd much this year. This game has been "Hyped" for the right reasons. People are starting to look at the MFC with just a little Respect now. The 'G will be pretty much full.

I know the MCC Reserve will, i will be arriving early.

EVERYBODY WEAR SCARVES & JUMPERS. So we can SEE our supporters.

" what do you want the BOM to do exactly?"

Just be a bit more accurate. And a good start would be to predict rain a bit less often....since it rarely happens.

Working for the BOM is the easiest job on the Planet. How often has it Rained in melbourne over the last 5 years???

The Dams are down to 26%, so not often!!!! The say its going to rain to cover their own Butts.

In 1958 Queens Birthday Melbourne Collingwood attracted 98,000+ people.

We will have a big crowd, it will be cold but it won't rain more than a sprinkle.

80,000 i say.

Yeah but we might just rain on the black 'n' white top 4 parade.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
