Not so sure. Only if they've made a collective decision at the club behind closed doors......that being the "rebuilding path"....would they challenge for 16th as strange as it might seem.

Maybe they are just too stubborn to realise of where their list is at...(take note Craig Cameron).....and they (incl Wallet) quite unbelievably, are still aiming for a finals spot until mathematically impossible.

If the latter is true, from a Melbournefc perspective (and majority of Demonlanders perspective (it seems)), the RFC viewing is good.

Correct. Wallace will try to win and fail miserably, whilst the board privately know that bottoming out is not only inevitable, it has already happened.

What came out yesterday in the "meeting" is he has the support of the players. Senior players were also not happy with Mitch Morton not adhering to team rules. I'd expect Morton to be dropped this week. If not, they've lost the plot entirely at Punt Rd.

Did you read about the senior players making the decision before the Sydney match to go back to basics and play man-on-man accountable football, only for Wallace tochange tact and play a loose man in defence, then eventually 2?

I'd find it hard to give my coach support if he did that. Token maybe, but those sort of actions create a palpable rift.

If the board sit back now and let him coach for the rest of the season, and watch Wallace win four of the next 8 games, and they finish say 8 and 14 and miss finals. They will have lost ground. They will have cheated their members in failing to miss a prime opportunity in the start of their rebuilding phase. Ie. 1st or 2nd pick in the last uncompromised draft for some time.

Better to finish him up now, cut their losses. And be first in line for a new coach. With so many coaches coming out of contract this year, they should make the move now.

The issue with Wallace may well be contractual and not focussed on losing games.

Having a carcass for a Coach only feeds the media frenzy.

A smarter club would have realised the situation and taken steps to get it resolved.

Spot on. It serves no purpose in sacking Wallace now. A caretaker coach may have a short-term impact on the players, and they may end up with 6-8 wins, which will ultimately be detrimental to any rebuilding plans of the footy dept. And Richmond's performances against Geelong, Sydney and Pt. Adelaide suggest that they are capable of winning games.

Ideally, Richmond should do what Collingwood did with Tony Shaw. After round 11, when it's mathematically impossible to make the finals, advise the football world that Wallace won't have his contract renewed, but will coach until the end of the season, with a brief to blood the kids.

What the Richmond board are doing is cutting off their nose to spite their face. It's obvious that they don't want to sack Wallace mid-season and put off any possible candidates for the job. Remember Mick Malthouse made the comment that he wouldn't look favourably upon a club that sacked it's coach mid year. So instead of sackig him now and putting a care taker in to blood the kids and finish last and have the best picks in the draft available to them to rebuild, they're keeping Wallace who will try and win as many games as possible to save his career. Which could end up them coming say 11th and not coming into an already weakend draft till pick 7!

They still have a midseason football dept/coach review, Rnd 11/12. Wallace could still be changed after this review. A club cant have the players 'wagging the dog'.

Unless their candidate is from Kazakhstan I doubt it. If the Board does not act or be seen to act proactively then what Coash will want to coach a side with a Board that vacillates. Everyone knows the Tigers are in a mess and their procrastinations only make it worse.

This has been my way of looking at it. When a coach is under the pump both young and old players are generally tentative on how big a clean out there will be and you'd think personal performance would be on their agenda. Having said that, this is Richmond and we still don't know what is really going on behind closed doors. I think that as long as the RFC board have not made any concrete decisions then we can't really tell how they will go gameplan- wise, player-wise and hence win-wise. I expect they may finish last but still too early to call. The other factor to consider is if there is any hint of dissent now, how will things be by round 11 or the end of the season? What ever the club desires as a long term season approach I doubt they will get it - in my mind if Wallace is kept he will serve his own interests what ever they may be.

Come on Richmond sign Wallace on for another 3 years.
