And how tempting it would be for potential corporate sponsorship - the club that essentially represents no-one and no place and the club that is perennially viewed as down-trodden battlers up against the odds.

However laughable Jackson's suggestion may be, what it does reiterate is that our position is far from secure long term. It only takes a change of personnel at the top of AFL management for mergers and relocations to be back on the agenda - particularly if the code needs to look to tighten belt straps in the near future to absorb some of the financial pain of 2 new clubs.

It reminds me of the financial strength that was created in the Australian Insurance Industry when HIH (financial basket case) bought FAI (basket case) and produced the biggest annual loss at the time in Aust corporate history and the HIH Group sunk with billions of dollars of losses.

A merged MFC- NM hybrid non entity would only make it easier for the AFL to shove the mishmash organisation to somewhere else in Australia to set up another Club.

One of the major problems for the Roos is that they've had [one of] the greatest players of his time in Carey, they've had success and premierships in the past few decades (70's and 90's), but where's the benefit built on the back of those successes?

Despite our lack of success we have a larger membership base (and far larger if you include all MCC members that support the Dees).

North have also played their ace, turning down the Gold Coast carrot to live or die in Victoria, and the white knights with their promised millions have failed to eventuate. Apart from an artificial spike last year, North's call to arms seems to have done nothing for memberships either.

I can't say I entirely agree with this.

Whilst it may be true at present, it ignores the fact that this time last year our membership was worse than their's is now and we were 5million in debt. We don't yet know if our membership is a fabricated spike likes their's was and the fact we have a few more unsigned supporters is largely irrelevant.

North have their problems, and I felt positive we could dig out of our situation whereas i'm not too confident about the Roos, but we shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves- this time last year we looked just as bad, if not worse.

That's alright - add some gray to the blue, white and red of the clubs, throw in some green, black and yellow to represent the Apple Isle, have the team responsible for Port's away number this year and have a "sexy" club strip the Gold Coast would be envious of.

I think it says something for MFC and clubs like ours who have been on the ropes that we have been able to survive succesive AFL leaders who have lacked vision right back to Ross Oakley in the late 80's that have threatened, bullied and tried to bribe us out of existence.

Even Demetriou can see now that there is enough money in the game (earned across all clubs) to support teams on the GC and in West Sydney which will also loose vast sums of money.

The major difference between the Club's membership tallies last year is that North were playing their ace and their membership record was a huge spike which, as predicted by many, has come back to earth.

Our membership has been increasing steadily over the past few years with conseuctive record-breaking membership tallies.

If you compare our membership with the Roos' pre and post-spike I think it'll look pretty decent.

I do think it's a relatively minor point but I brought it up because it shows they're keen enough to buy a MCC membership - it indicates more commitment to footy than 'unsigned supporters'.

I'd also suggest that 'unsigned supporters' are more likely to get involved when the team is doing well (ie. prelim recently, premierships in the 90s) and North have failed to lure these supporters into buying a membership.

Conversely, we've broken our membership tally record in consecutive years despite performing very poorly. I believe it will only increase as we improve (ie. Hawthorn).

Im not sure that Vlad sees further than his next big thing. Jackson is an imposter as concerned intelligence. Vlad realises, at least he does this ,that many of the directives in place and past f-ups are costing clubs. And so they , the AFL make easy of it and "bigheartedly" offer assistance. Big whopee do !! Its much of there doing. Jackson is a dill of the highest order. He taught Nero what to do. Vlad is anA1 student of same blarney

The unfortunate consistency is that the AFL continues to think for themsleves and fails to cede the reality , or proper respect ,towards the clus that nake the up the league. We are probably a thorn in their side, Imagine how cumbersome it must be that there is a club with more claim to the game than them !!

Sorry if there has already been a thread created for this topic but i just want to vent my frustration.

I was having a look www.superfooty.com.au while i had some lunch at my desk. I noticed that there is a poll with the question "Do you agree with Wayne Jackson that the Demons and the Kangaroos should merge?". I obviously voted no, but was surprised to find that i was in the minority. 51% agree that the two clubs should merge!

I know that the survey means absolutely nothing, but it still angers me! Usually its just the media writing complete rubbish, but it angers me even more that this is voted on by the football public.

I have complete faith in the direction the club is heading. Jimmy has really turned the club around, new board, successful debt demoliton, part of the MCC again (whatever that means? Yet to see anything from it) etc etc. I dont think the media or the public are even aware of the very large steps the club has taken.

Perhaps they should go and pick on St Kilda - they have fewer members than us and are at the opposite end of the ladder!

Yes i found it very interesting that Wayne Jackson spoke of a merger the same day the Absolutely apalling stadium deals came out.

I don;t think it was a consequence & i don't think this Topic is going to go away until clubs either do re-locate or merge.

I don't believe the MFC will go but the GC17 team are yet to have a mascot. West Syd stadium is being built, while Tassii wait.

If the stadium deals are not sorted Quickly Victorian teams will not be able to afford to play-let alone survive.

I DESPISE THE DOCKLANDS STADIUM-have not been there since the Ox played his last game.
