Putting aside Watts (who is a few years away from being a key position focal point up forward) I think as it stands at the moment PJ is the best key position forward we have. He leads well, is quick, marks strongly and has a huge body that will cause problems for opponents. His kicking does however need work.

The problem is that with Jamar down, Spencer very young and Messen useless PJ will be required to spend more time rucking. In the interim Newton should be given every opportunity and if he fails then PJ should be left at full forward permanently when Jamar is back (assuming Spencer's form holds).

We're all hoping Watts and Jurrah make it - I think Miller's leadership and physicality are key to this happening over the next 3 years. Yes he's got his limitations, but there's an important role for him to help those two as they come through.

Maric, Jetta, Davey and Wonna have the small forward roles covered and with rotation through the midfield at least 3 and maybe all of them could play in the same 22.

Does anyone have any info on where Robbo is at in his recovery?
4-6 weeks was what I read a few days ago, others might be better informed.

he was first expected to get bak just before mid season althoug he recons hel be back before then he feels alot better and going better than expected

Bate at FF, PJ beside him when he isn't in the ruck. Shouldn't spend much time on the bench.

Wonna and Davey switching from flank to pocket.

Miller at CHF and Morton and Green switching from flank to wing. Newton maybe off the bench.

PJ, Bate, Wonaeamirri.

Morton, Miller, Davey.

With a 6 like that it is about precise disposal from the midfielders or kicking to advantage by allowing Bate to lead to space or kicking to a contest with PJ/Newton/Bate/Miller up and Davey/Wonna/Green down.

It is difficult to tell how many a fwd line like this could kick, needless to say it is fortunate we have a very good backline.

No mention of Zomer in here. The kid is only 19 years old, as tall as Watts and 97kgs. If he has a breakthrough simliar to Spencer, we could have the makings of another Neitz, Schwartz combination up forward. Throw in Davey, Jetta, Wona, Bate, Jurrah and PJ pinch hitting up front and it could develop very nicely

Possibly, but, is still a big may be.

Robbo wants to play strait away, but the club & the medico's are holding him back. My hunch is Rnd 3 - 4, just enough time to try out Bate & Newton in key forward posts.

I like this opportunity to play the possible future as soon as.

Its interesting that a lot of us have had garland/martin as a possible forward in the interim for us yet on the eve of rd 1 all are in the back line or may not even get a game (martin).

Seems very strange, but this tells me that the club has faith in pettard as a perm marking forward for us. After his 1st half v the doggies there is a lot to look forward to. I think he may really get under the radar of a few clubs early on in the year if all goes well. Contests well, 2nd efforts are great and no body could doubt his courage. Newton may well have played his last snr game for MFC based on form up to this point.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
