Wonaeamirri elevated !! (STOKED)

CJ GONE !!, offered two year contract, asked to be delisted. Mildly disappointing when you consider the following:

From afl.com.au:

From rounds 14 to 17 this year, Johnson collected 108 disposals at an average of 27 touches, including a career-best 33 against the Brisbane Lions in round 14 โ€“ one of Melbourne's three wins in 2008.

Dean Bailey:

Our preference was to always keep Chris Johnson as a part of the Melbourne Football Club.

To do this we offered Chris a new two year contract, but unfortunately he wanted to play for another, rival AFL club, and subsequently asked to be delisted.

It is really important our members are kept well informed on matters such as these, and we are extremely disappointed with Chrisโ€™ decision.

Shane Valenti, Jake Spencer, Trent Zomer : retained on the club's rookie list.

Bring on the draft, as this is the one that will set us on our path. The last couple of years have hurt and I'm expecting a couple more, but perhaps finally we're on our way up.

Was never in my best 22. Made butter look hard.

Zomer is lucky.

Wona on and Valenti to remain a rookie.....as expected.

Add "surprised CJ is gone" and you've got me covered as well.

Your a 'Fu..ing' joke Melbourne! Could'nt offer CJ more than 1 year? Pathetic! You let the good one's go and persist with retards. He is in my best 22.

CJ heading to the Blues! That would be great! They will both stick it right up us.

We have been renamed the "MELBOURNE JOKERS"

Good luck CJ! You are going to kill them.

So what's happening with Carroll??

That's what I'd like to know <_<

Finished your exam have you?

You'll wet your pants if we actually develop a star in this club

The impression I got during the year was that CJ never fitted in Dean Bailey's plans. His career at Melbourne was pretty disappointing and I wish him well wherever he ends up.

His departure leaves us with an additional young player to draft and in this year's deep draft pool, that should give rise to optimism rather than any gnashing of teeth.

So we can use selection 83, or PSD pick 17 now? Not that I'm overly miffed that CJ is departing, but the depth of the draft hardly rationalises it, when we are talking about using an extra pick down the arse end. No draft is that deep.

I guess my point is that, if we do use either of those selections as a result of CJ's departure, we are extremely unlikely to get a player of CJ's ability. Not praise of Johnson, but rather the reality of those late picks.

The only genuine positive from this is that that's another senior-ish wage we won't be paying next year.

So far its Neitz, Hollland, Yze, White, Bode, Weetra, now CJ. (don't think i'm missing anyone)

7 spots. Aussie lifted. Pick 1,17,19, 35, 51 + PSD1. If CJ wasn't off, it would be no pick 51 or Aussie doesn't get lifted.

I thought it was 67 or 83.

I suppose that changes it a bit. Pick 51 is still of debatable value but I accept there is reasonable parity between 51 vs. CJ, and not having to pay his wage.

Where have you heard that?

I'm under the impression that the top 20 runs deeper than previous years, but after that it begins to dwindle somewhat

I really think the club has made a mistake. A guy that uses the ball well off the half back line and reads the play reasonably well. Daniher hated CJ, and DB also didn't like him. Neither coach used him properly and let him develop confidence and momentum. He will never be a star, so in a sense it's no great loss, but he is a better footballer than lesser players on our list, and I think would have provided value if allowed to settle into a position. I know he is the one that asked to be delisted, but I still think that's a result of the way he has been treated. It's a shame.

Even so, the point stands, albeit to a lesser extent.

Pick 51 - CJ.

I'm not really going to lose sleep over it. I personally don't trust CJ the player. If he can get a better deal then a one year deal, good luck to him.

Cheers Chris.

Good luck at Visy.

Not a huge loss, like stated we have made room for 5 of our Draft picks and 1 PSD Pick.

Happy for Wonna! :)

I thought the same too. He never seemed to me like the Bailey's type of player. Just a feeling I got.

When Bailey played him for that stretch last year & he got a lot of footy, I couldn't help but feel that Bails the wiley old fox was trying to increase CJ's value in trade week.

Just like, when many thought Bate & Dunn were on the block after being dropped in the last round, I saw it as trying to give them a rocket for pre-season.

Looks like, whether intended or not, it worked for Bate (article from last week) - http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/tab...px?newsId=69459

at the same time, this IS just typical preseason propoganda

My information differs. The depth is supposed to be a lot better than it was last year and there will also be more "recycled" players in the mix as a result of changes in the draft. In the end however, it's better to go with the young blood than with someone that the football department doesn't have enough faith to give more than a year's contract.

so two coaches didnt like him? one coach who got us to a number of finals series and a grand final, and another that has publicly stated that he will build a side around youth (which included CJ if he stayed). doesn't that indicate to you that maybe there is something else that you aren't seeing? as in, he isnt going to make it?

maybe the change in scenery will do him good. good luck to him with getitng a better contract. if he sets his terms low we might just pick him up again. otherwise, he wasn't worth what he wanted.

We've got Green and Wheatley to get the cheap kicks at half-back... I mean, do the sweeping.

CJ:

Short

Soft

Slow

Nice kick

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
