Cam Bruce Captain?

Being a good captain and having off-field issues almost goes hand in hand....

Carey, Cousins, Kane Johnson, wasn't Voss involved in an incident outside a St.Kilda nightclub? ;)

McLean has made errors in judgment, absolutely, but he's owned up to them and he served his punishment. Is it not time we move on from that and concentrate on what he brings to the club, on the field, as well as off. For all of his silly indiscretions, McLean also donated $10,000 to help save our club, has time and time again delivered measured and mature media performances and has proven that he can play and dominate in finals.

He's a natural-born leader, and that's something you can't teach someone, no matter how good a bloke or player they are.

Have you all forgoten our own champion captain being as [censored] as 10 men and trying to take on about 15 bouncers at Crown?

It's a risk-reward type scenario then isn't?

Is the risk of potentially winning a grand final worth the risk of potentially [censored] over a club that's already struggling at present?

imo giving it to Bruce now and McLean in a year or 2s time greatly reduces the risk of the latter while not effecting the first

I am struggling with the connection here. Wayne Carey and Ben Cousins who each were stand out players of their eras, inspiring on field captains but individuals with profound social and psychological issues that have all but destroyed their lives in their 30s.

McLean is a 23 yo up and coming midfielder with his career in front of him and has done wheelies in a carpark, got a speeding offence and been drunk as 22yo 12 months ago overseas. No where in the league of the downfalls of Cousins and Carey. And no McLean does not to my understanding have any of these life issues those players had.

If McLean is seen as the best leader in the Club, then FCS give him the captaincy. Waiting 12 months does not reduce the risk but pander to the nervous aunties that stifle common sense.

FWIW, a good captain does not necessarily mean there is trouble off the field. Buckley, Kelly, Kernahan, Judd, Hird, Riewoldt, Kirk and B Johnson are all great leader and statesman of the game.

Agree, Rhino. We're starting a new era with a young side which will make mistakes. We have a young guy with captaincy potential. Shoulder him with the responsibility now so he can grow with it. If he makes minor mistakes then he/we live and learn by it. He is basically a solid guy with good values. Give Brock McLean the captaincy now. No baggage, new start.

Brock stood up at the Demolition Dinner and pledged $10.000 of his own money to the club. I think that signifies what the Melbourne Football Club means to him.

He also played a half of Footy this year with an apparrent broken ankle! I think he is Captain Material. I also think next year is very important to set the right example for the years to follow so make him the next captain now-don't wait.

Green & Bruce as Deputies.

Cam bruce will be captain of the MFC

brock Mclean should not be captain YET

he has played 64 games in 4 years he is missing atleast 6 games through injury every year..... there is still a slight question mark over his off field behaviour

lets not be blinded by everyones love for brock, we alll know he will get his chance.

Bruce should and will be rewarded for his consistancy, hard work and on field leadership.

What on field leadership..... green, macdonald or Bruce don't inspire confidence.... You could see Mclean grabbing the boys in the huddle and telling them to play for the jumper and he will put his body on the line for them and he expects the same... He is one of the best trainers at the club and giving it to a statemen doesn't really demonstrate the club is heading in the right direction. I think Bruce and Green can be vices and assist but we should have one captain

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
