I was one who saw some good in Nathan, still do. A reliable mark, good reader of the traffic, reasonable disposal skills, good closing speed, and unintimidated! I loved the way he could shake a Mitch Hahn like a rag-doll or join a melee with intent. He was forced to play on bigger opponents on most occasions and usually kept them in check with a mix of footy smarts and controlled agression. However, when he turned this agression on our own he had gone too far! Time to move on! Good luck with the Anger Management and AA sessions!

Unfortunately (for the sake of Carroll's career), you need to be more than just good at football to play in the AFL.

He had his chance, and blew it pretty badly in the end.

A couple of years ago he was almost all-australian and most peoples favorite player

(well he was mine anyway) and now look at him, everyone can't stand the bloke.

I feel pretty bad for him given his upbringing. I don't think he ever really had a shot at a sensible life. At the same time he's done everything he can to spectacularly blow an opportunity most of us would kill for.

jones stupidly took on a player, got tackled and the resulting turnover became a goal

all of the doggies players started ribbing into jones, so carroll ran over from 50M away and stuck up for him

sounds like nothing, but sitting near it, you could tell he had all intention of sticking up for jones

Too often he was engaged in those ridiculous pre-game melees, acting the tough guy. (Worst that springs to mind is against the Saints in 05? Roughed up Riewoldt etc. before we got belted to the tune of 80 odd points).

Played a role, did it pretty solidly, but was never going to be the backbone of our defence, especially given that he isn't the most socially capable

I haven't kept up with any of this, but where do we stand with his place on the list next seaosn?

Agree Nugget, and I also liked the way he handled Barry Hall in 2006. We'll never know how much physical damage our lightweight, fainthearted backline would have taken but for the only physical presence back there.

This man should have played for Brisbane.

Mate, I think, in the final analysis it made no negative difference, and in some cases may have helped our guys to stand up as much as it was possible.

I understand and agree. But would it have stood out so much if he had some mates around him? He may not have needed to be so animated.

At the end of the day, he needed to go from the club, but I'll be one who appreciated his on field contribution over much of the time, particularly 2006. That proved he can play.

Played a very good season a couple of years ago, but struggled with form and especially with his focus since.

Dees are making the right decision by parting with him.

St Kilda is believed to have shown interest in Melbourne bad boy Nathan Carroll.

Carroll, who has had a string of disciplinary problems, is still under contract with the Demons but they are very keen to off-load him.

If the club seriously had enough on him to get rid of him they would have done so already, and wouldn't have relied on the draft to solve their problems (if it didn't work last year, why would it work this year?). It seems to be all talk and no action - maybe there's not as much in it as the rumour mill suggests.

I hope not, because if they ditch Carroll, there really isn't much to offer in his place is there? I don't think any of the alternatives are any better on the field.

If Carroll remains at the club, I still think he should get a game if his from warrants, ala Yze this year. What's the point on spending $300,000 on the Scorpions.

Fair call Suzanna. If he stays, the club must firmly control every aspect of his year. Good footballers can turn attitudes around, and 2006 proves he can play in a resonable side. Although I'm not as close to him as some on this forum who probably do know more about his potential or lack-of.
