How about some smokeys?

All the talk is about the big guns at draft camp but what about the smokey?

Here's one that's been discussed in a number of places. His name is Liam Jurrah 188cm 78kg Born 23/9/88.

Collingwood picked him up and snuck him into their VFL team for four games and then he mysteriously disappeared back home to central Australia. He is said to be a player of rare talent, an amazing kick, fantastic hands and an effortless mover with excellent skills. He comes from Yuendumu Magpies in the Central Australian Football League.

I understand that Collingwood wanted to quietly select him with a late draft selection but a few other clubs are now on to this.

I really really want Tom Swift with pick 17/19. Was rated better then Rich until he did he suffered an injury ruling him out of the WAFL / U18 carnival (knee i think?)

He will be the steal of the draft to whoever picks him up....

Did I read somewhere he led the under 16 carnival a couple of years back in every midfield stat? I think it was him. Pretty impressive

That's the one. Back from injury.

Expect a couple of left field selections from the Weagles or Freo, Sydney, the Adelaides and Brisbane. Every year they try sneak in a gun.

Pretty sure players have to nominate in a given time for the draft though, so it stops that to some extent

Swift is no smokey. Did an ACL last year & had a reco. Injured the other knee this year and missed the U18's champs. A mate in WA reckons on of the local sides tried to hide him away & will draft him in the 2nd round.

Didn't say he wasn't a smokey. Could be a chance at pick 19 for the Dees. But I expect him to go earlier. West Coast might try for him at 18.

If he is there at 17 and we don't take him i will be very disappointed...

I want him at 17 as well.... if we leave him to 19 WC will take him at 18.... I hope we get swift with our pp.... I'm happy for it to be hit and miss as we have pick 19 there

Haydon Kemki? Not sure if thats the right spelling at all.

Was the ACT captain at the Un18 Carni.

Saw the dees talking to him in a video about the draft.

I know they are talking to heaps but could be a smokey. Dont mind his game at all

I reckon someone should open a thread on who we'll take with 17 and 19, should we keep the picks as they are now.

Would be interesting to see if anyone could get both right... They'd take the crown as smartest demonlander for a year and everything...

If you want a smokey, i'll tell you one kid that the dees are looking REAL closely at for pick 17 and 19

NSW/ACT co-captain- Kade Klemke.

got a bit of pace and good attack on the footy. his skills are good. but just good.

Is there anyone you don't think we should pick up BB?

Is there anyone you don't think we should pick up BB?

what'ts that supposed to mean..i've mentioned one player..Klemke

Watts #1 likely.

I would love it if the club took Swift with #17 if he is there. He is a speedy inside mid with good skills. We could grab an outside mid like Blease, Hill or Zaharakis with #19 if we desired. Swift is a real talent, obviously had the big knee reco, but he was the highest rated mid ahead of Rich before he did his knee. He has worked his way back from injury and will just keep getting better. Will be a real steal if he slides.

Also, not that it should make much difference, but he is pretty much best friends with Cale Morton. Cale missed part of the end of year trip to stop in to Perth and see his friends (Swift). So they would want to stay together at the club, killing any go home factor if there was one.

?? taps down to Swift who has been sheperded by Mclean. Swift bursts from the pack handballing to Morton who is sprinting past off the wing, he kicks long to a leading Watts who takes the mark on a lead. He walks back, composes himself and slots a set shot from 50.

The Dees are on the up :D

Hey Hey i said him first!!! See my post above! I just got his first name and spelling wrong!

So far, at a quick glance, you've expressed a desire to get Prismall, Bentley, Thompson, Warnock, Simon Taylor, O'Keefe, Watts, Lee, not this Klemke cat, Armitage, Dowler, Lovett, Blease, Zaharkis, a late pick for Grima, Tenace, Griffen or Reilley, Bannar, Jordan Lisle, and possibly Shaw, Bull, Lapin or Strauss.

yep so out of that..theres about 68 boys at draft camp that i dont won't and theres about 100+ boys that will do state screening that i won't want mate

i know we cant have all the ones i've lsited..and if you read my posts i say "could be useful/good for us"..or "i think he would be good".

we're not even attempting to get half the players i mentioned in trade week so how is that anything- i just said i wouldnt mind some of them

You make me laugh

one minute your warming to Steele Sidebottom and now he is unsighted

Watts is a natuaral footballer as anyone can see

Naitanui is a great athlete that needs to learn how to play football

He could be an absolute champion but the odds on that are nowhere near the chance that Watts will be a dud

surely you would agree with that

Thats why Watts is the better option for Melbourne

Franklin before he ever played a senior game was an athlete first footballer second

Hindsight is a wonderful thing as their would be no doubt that Frankilin would have been pick 1

Not that it mattered as the Hawks still got him

Do the other clubs take a chance on Naitanui just in case or go for a natural player like Rich or Vickery etc

I wouldnt even be surprised if Melbourne has the oppurtunity to pick him up at pick 17

What i do like about Naitinui is his willingness to learn

i'm also jumping on the swift bandwagon, seems that he has recovered well from his injuries, with his sprint time under 3 seconds. Would be a massive steal if we could pick him up. Also any news on liam shiels?

I'm no expert but the sprint is a straight line event and wouldn't be a big test for recovery from an acl. How did he go in the agility test?

I'm jumping on Watt more and more but it looks like Watts is an athlete just as much as NitNak... he has topped alot of the testing but just doesn't have the same jump... only about 6cm less..... which is Fark all for a guy who can take contested marks

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
