Watching The Eastern Ranges V Dandenong Stingrays Under 15 squads trial game today & got talking to a bloke connected to Eastern Ranges. I enquired about how many Ranges might get drafted this year & he said the only kid he can connect to a specific club @ present is The Demons are all over a kid named LIAM SHIELS. I never @ any stage mentioned I was a Demon supporter however my ears certainly pricked up.

My source states he is a very classy midfielder that has dominated all his career @ The Basin FC.

Does anyone know anymore about this kid because my source was adament this kid will be a Demon.

By the way the talent on show today was amazing, shame most of these kids are headed to GC17

Is he old enough for this years draft ?

Article says he was 16 and that was last year, so he's presumably 17 now.

What's the cut-off these days?

Considering he was in the AIS intake and I haven't heard his name, perhaps he is too young.

He is eligible, and has some big raps from a couple of clubs, likely to go 35-45 apparently..

Interesting.

The dees certainly have the picks in place to lock him up. Would be interesting to see if this comes to fruition. At least one thing gives me some peace, he is a Victorian lad. Based on those stats, I would be pretty pleased to see this kid develop in red and blue! We will see what happens. Cheers for the tip oldman rivers!

Under the current draft age eligibility, he can be drafted, but the rules change after this draft. Theoretically, under next years rules, he would be ineligible for this draft.

We should be hoping that somehow Steve may slips through and doesn't get pickd up by gold coast- we will finish last next year i think..so what would be the pick we get??

1 or if we lose enough games 1 + 2 (a real possibility). GC don't pillage the top 15 picks till 2010 draft. I think we'll have a decent play at one of May/Scully/Butcher.

I think they have dibs on Qld youngsters in 09, but not sure about that.

forgot about that- what picks do gold coast have in 2009 draft? cos may would be eligible to go i think so massive boost if club could get him- guarentee you he will be better than buddy. good guy as well, seen all his games for grammar this year live. bloody freak. in yr 10 atm. played for NT in under 16's carnival

Pick 35 could come in handy..........

Surely too young, so if he is that good I hope he likes the gold coast.

Scrapes in this year by 2 days!! He's actually exactly 1 year younger to the day then Tom McNamara who was the youngest player drafted last year by any team.

Pretty impressed with Shiels, had a pretty decent Champs and has been good in the TAC. Finds a lot of the ball and has a big tank, he's got reasonable pace but far from express. Good size, especially seeing as he's more then a year younger then some of the others he's playing against.

He should be on our radar, but not before our 3rd round pick where i'd be more then happy to take him, there will be better options available with pick 17 & 19.

No draft picks per se...that joy comes in 2010!! Next year they can "warehouse" half a dozen (or so ) Qld kids

Posted

good cos i wasn't sure if we could get any picks next year

so we'll probably have some decent ones again. we can win 5 games and finish last and get picks 1 and 2. nice

Really? I thought you had to win less than 5 in two consecutive years, not a total of 8 or less counted over two years.

Nah that's not quite right. This year they got to warehouse QLD/NT kids. Next year they can sign any ineligible kid, regardless of state, but the kids have to agree, meaning they'd by-pass the 2010 draft. So basically any kid next year who is born 1992 can sign with GC if they choose.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
