believe bailey was the one who was quoted about the warnock situation at draft camp- referring to trade week as the berumda triangle.

what have you got against bailey dee-luded? not so good if you dont like our coach

connolly is a legend and yes he has been doing some behind the scene work to lure robbie, but it's failed.

warnock race still open

but we probably want seaby as he's proven to be better and even though he's slightly older- will be better for us.

And he wants $250K per year. Much more realistic; may bring Warnock's asking price down.

yep

would be happy with either of them but i think for the club, seaby is more a realistic propostition, and it means we don't have to use pick 17 or 19. both good picks we shouldn't trade

I'm rapt with the coach, babie. But don't underestimate that Connells is the footy manager & wheeler & dealer.

The Warnock trade is as good as done.

You seriously think clubs wait untill October 6 before they contact eachother and discuss what they'd want by way of trade?

Fremantle fans are (absurdly) screaming for Pick #6 in exchange for Warnock.

So to keep the masses happy - the club comes out and rejects Carltons initial offer and makes a stance on "we want Pick #6".

Eventually though, after the first 3 days of Mexican stand off at Telstra Dome -

I imagine that Fremantle would know that Warnocks price wouldn't be that far off the mark of the Pick #24 that Carlton have offered - and in the interest of keeping things running smoothly and getting the deal over the line, probably would ask for a sweetener (fringe player or a swap of later picks) - just so they don't look like they've been shafted and that Carlton had been calling all the shots when the final deal is made public.

In an unprecedented move the AFL have assigned their own solicitor to help a deal be done between Warnock and Carlton.

Its a disgrace that the AFL are getting involved with club trading negotiations.

What right do Carlton have to receive the AFLs help on this one??

A Mediator can have a two pronged approach to tackle this issue:

i) The mediator sits down with Carlton and encourages them to meet Fremantle half way - which they wont.

ii) The mediator sits down with Fremantle and tries to convince them that #24 is a decent offer and that they should take it.

My guess is option B, but as I said earlier - its all a sham IMHO the deal would have already been agreed to in principal.

Good summary.

I am wondering about the source of Beetle's info.

I agree its a done deal and there is alot of poker bluff going on.

It was on the Ten late news last night too. My first reaction is that it's absolutely pathetic if true. Trades are transactions between two clubs. It should remain so. IMO the integrity of trade week is compromised if the AFL start interfering.

If it is true,

The AFL are merely covering their asses - trying to get a deal across the line so that they can display to all and sundry that there flawed system of trading still works.

Remember, the AFLPA threat of "Free Agency" is knocking at the door.

Posted

The AFL are worried about free agency and this would be another example of restraint of trade if a deal doesn't go through.

Personally, I feel that restricted free agency should apply in the case of long term players and Warnock has been at Freo for 3 years.

They should be helping O'Keefe get to where he wants to go.

Posted

This may or may not mean nothing but there are carlton people bemoaning an apparent stalling in the deal. Both clubs are refusing to budge with fremantle refusing to sit down with Visy. He may or may not be headed to the PSD.

Hopefully they both stick to thier guns and we pick him up for 0.

How is this possible?

How can it be jusitified? If a deal can't be brokered, it won't go through. Simple as that

I believe that fremantle has refused to come to the table at all basically saying the same thing.

Posted

I can't believe the AFL are involved in this deal. Wonder if Mike Fitzpatrick was involved in anyway after a call from VISY. <_<

(Pure speculation- written and authorised by HT)

Posted

But why do they have to come to the table at all?

Or do you mean the AFL brokered table?

Posted

I find it ridiculous that the AFL sees fit to intervene in these processes, but Fremantle has every right to demand pick 6 on the following basis - how can Carlton value Warnock as good enough to warrant a $400,000 contract and yet only be offering a second round pick. If you assume Judd is on $1,200,000 a year - I dont know if he is but its possible - then logically it follows that the trade bounty WCE received for Judd, the Dockers should get a third of that which at least equals a highish first round pick. Carlton cant have it both ways, indicating he is a platyer of great value by dint of the what they will pay him, but then offer pick 24 in exhange.

Posted
But why do they have to come to the table at all?

Agreed. I suspect that freo are saying "we want pick 6 they are offering 24. He is not going to Carlton. Nothing more to say. Negotiation over. Next offer please".

I also suspect that the AFL are envisaging some backlash from Visy and the player and having the whole free agency/restraint of trade debate flare up and this is why they are attempting to get involved.

Kudos to Freo in this case. They are playing hard ball. This could go well for us.

Posted
Or do you mean the AFL brokered table?

Yes, they have refused to do the round table thing with the AFL.

Posted

If that's true then I'd thank Freo for keeping some sanity in this whole process.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
