Spose it depends a bit how accountable Jones is in the first place. If his opponent does get a little of the ball it might be worth saying to him "try and get your own footy - just make sure player x doesn't have more touches than you"

Yeah. That'd stop him from totally self-destructing on bad days, too. I mean, he got what, four touches in our win against the Dockers earlier in the year. I'm all for switching him to a small forward role for a spell or making him a little more accountable if it's just not happening for him on the ball.

By the way, I would really be interested in a face off between those two midfields, though.

If Chunk is struggling a bit with a tag, i don't see any reason why he shouldn't then go to another player.

Often when this happens, it ends up being a 2 on 1 for a while, freeing up a teammate until at least the coaching staff realise what's happening

That might work well, but I just reckon that having Jones tag another player accomplishes exactly what the opposition wants - to minimize Jones' aggressive ball-winning ability, something that we probably don't want.

Why would any opposing coach want to tag Jones? I think just just man him up and let Jones self destruct with turnovers.

if you;ve been watching games you'd realise that the reason jones has been down is because he has been tagged very closely. particularly recently with junior, moloney and now mclean out, but also early in the season he was watched very closely by opposition taggers. the freo game was a perfect example where he was the player tagger in the centre.

if he was allowed to do his own thing he would be much more damaging.

Not only that Eastie, but usually a guy who's on a hard tag will come off when their opponent comes off (granted you now have to lodge your official documentation to come off about 3 weeks in advance)

I've always thought of setting up a team where the players all look the same, so that they'd get lost in all the symmetry. If your entire team looked like Jones, Chapman and so on, the better players would be more difficult to man up specifically, especially if they interchanged often and ran up and down the gound a lot, changing their positions.

It's certainly tough for Jones now that he's the virtually the main man, with McLean, McDonald, Moloney, etc. all missing.

He certainly needs to learn how to shake a tag, and it's something he's said he's working on.

As one or two have mentioned, throwing him up forward every once and again might be worth a try.

Just a thought.
