he will be a replacement, have i missed something? some idiot posted saying that green, bell, cjohnson, bruce, whelan, petterd were all half back flankers..and they most definitely are not. i think sherman would be a good replacement for any of those guys that are being played in the wrong position. sherman is a specialist HBF and will always be better than any of those players listed as they arent HBF's..apart from petterd and maybe cj.

Dont agree with Freak on much recently, but I see some merit in getting Sherman IF HE IS CHEAP. I wouldnt give up a high pick or anything for him. He was fantastic in 2006. Cant argue that. Last year he suffered a really bad infection in his leg, and they nearly had to amputate it! So the fact that he is coming back from an injury that severe is credit to him. He s still working his way back to form and fitness, and has had to do so in a new role being thrown about as a tagger at times. Is he out of contract come years end? PSD possibility. If not, then Id trade for him if theyd give him up cheap. No big loss if it doesnt work out though, as there will be othr players available from the sounds of it.

would we then consider that brisbane see sherman as being the equivalent to petterd on our list, but just performed a bit better? both suffered very severe injuries after having a great first up season and neither have got back to full flight yet.

would anyone consider trading petterd for sherman? and if not, what would be a reasonable trade for petterd? and would you give that for sherman?

stick to the draft. asif we would trade ricky for sherman, ricky has way more potential and showed great form until he got injured. And if sherman was worth trading for, he would at least play good footy under a coach such as leigh matthews

Tend to agree with freak on this.

He is only 21 and IF we were able to get him for a good price we would be stupid not to. His kicking skills are good unlike some others talked about here (buckley, bruce) and he could really improve our backline introducing some productive creativity.

I would really like our medico's to put him through a pretty tough test before we seriously look at him considering the severity of his previous injury.

sherman and ricky are similar ages. both had a really great season before succumbing to injury and have either not played much or stuggled to find form since. sherman arguably had more influence than ricky did when he was playing his best. but you say ricky has more potential?

what i am saying is if we wouldnt trade ricky away for nix, why would brisbane trade away a young player who has shown he could play high quality footy? unless he asks to leave, or unless there is something wrong ie injury recovery isnt going along to plan, there is no way brisbane would let him go for anything less than what everyone here would trade ricky for...

Speed? His speed is a weapon

Your kidding aren't you, is this the same guy that Paul Johnson ran down 2 weeks ago. Get back to reality. He's no speed demon.

Sherman could be to Whelan, bell, chris johnson etc as a daniel kerr is to nathan jones...an improvement!

Could be but probably wouldn't be because he isn't any better than them

All this saying he is a HBF'er, here I was thinking he would be better suited to a HFF or wing because he has accountability issues..

he is no speed demon..but daniel bell is pretty quick too and he gets run down more than anyone in our team.

bell gets hit from the side, or gets hit while propping because there is noone ahead to kick too (his decision making problems are evident here). he often holds it too long.

sherman was running along the wing and got ran down from behind by the biggest block in our side.

Spot on.

The village idiot says he's a HBF'er and everyone just assumes that's what he is and argues against the village idiot, says a lot about their football knowledge.

Sherman is an instictive forward, not quick in a straight line, but has good footwork, can break tackles, and kick goals. He's actually a very good footballer.

The likes of Corrie, Hooper and McGrath rotating through the forward line applying defensive pressure, and Sherman's own form have seen him pushed out and tried in different positions.

I'm not sure he is what we need, but if he came for cheap, I'd be happy.

If he's any good he won't come cheap. So in that case who do we trade for him? Wouldn't we be better off either targeting better players or sticking with the draft and train process that DB seems to like. I think what our team lacks are a couple of game breakers, elite players. The only way to get them is in the draft. Beggs the question we've all been working on, Watts, Rich or NNat? I'm currently leaning toward Rich. Gun midfielders win premierships, we don't have one.

I tend to watch a guy over the course of his career and provide my view rather than one isolated incident in one particular game. The boy is quick. The real issue is how quick he is between the ears.

100% correct Goodvibes.

PJ is actually one of the fastest at the club for a straight line run. Sherman didnt use his brains there. If he had zig-zaged abit he wouldve easily got away from PJ as he has fantastic agility and PJ wouldve slowed alot having to readjust his line. The issue here was him not using his brains. Full credit to PJ anyway for a great passage of play :D

Sherman is quick, he breaks lines, and when on song is a fantastic offensive weapon. His 2006 was seriously good. Think he kicked 17 goals as a running HBF/midfielder and was gathering 20 or so damaging disposals a week streaming forward. A great return for anyone in his position, especially considering his age at the time. A combination of horrible injury and poor form coming back from it thus far have led to these talks. He is talented, and Lethal has been trying him in a few different roles this year (tagging, HFF, BP etc).

I doubt Brisbane would let him go for anything above say pick 25-30, which is why its doubtful we'll get him, and I wouldnt want to give up one of our teen picks considering this is a very good draft who would could get a steal with at that price. Fact is he has alot of potential, but would be too costly for us.

We do not need anymore Halve Back's.....We need to focus on getting some key forwards...Newton and Bate look excellent but i have my concerns about Miller..shown a bit in the last few weeks but i dont think he can get much bettee

I think you're confusing Miller and Newton, at least I hope you are

he is only 21, dropped to the reserves recently and down on confidence. Does anyone think he would be worth trading for? In just his 2nd season he was awesome on the half back line, averaged 22 touches a game, kicked 17 goals for the year, ran the lines and finished 2nd in their best and fairest.

thoughts?

he is a great player... he is a really cocky player and i think thats what the deez need

i would definatly love to see him at the demons i would give and early pick for him

should have listened to me and got him when he was worthless..now he is one of their better players in arguably a top 4 team.

Reminds me of Colin Sylvia.

Lions would never entertain a trade.

In what way?

Sylvia is 1000000x better overhead than Sherman who I can't recall even taking an overhead mark. As for kicking, Sherman is effective at best with a tendency to make poor decisions under pressure. Let's also not forget that he has been chased down from behind by a ruckman!!!!

Yes, Sherman has been good this year but put him in an ordinary team he is an ordinary player. Although impressed with his game Vs. the Blues, have a look how many goals he has kicked by getting forward of the footy on a flank.

Just as likely MFC wouldn't entertain a trade.

Coming from a long long long way back Freak. So which of Blease, Strauss or Bennell would you have given up? And I am not sure Brisbane were seeking to trade but dont let that distract from some turgid tyre pumping.

FWIW, I thought he played really well on Sat night where his speed hurt Carlton. His 2nd and 3rd efforts were a treat. Still question the consistency of disposal.
