An interesting pointer on the vflfooty site if the Demons are to throw in their lot with the Casey Scorpions is the analysis of Liston Trophy Votes by one poster who worked out the percentages of votes polled by players for AFL affiliate clubs -

Bendigo (Essendon) - 67%

Box Hill (Hawthorn) - 53%

Casey Scorpions (St. Kilda) - 93%

Coburg (Richmond) - 69%

Collingwood - 75%

Geelong - 94%

North Ballarat (North Melbourne*) - 38%

Northern Bullants (Carlton) - 69%

Sandringham (Melbourne) - 41%

Werribee (North Melbourne*) 49%

Williamstown (Western Bulldogs) 30%

Of course, the percentages are partly affected by injuries to AFL listed players but the heavy contibutions of the St. Kilda listed players in the Casey team would suggest that some strengthening of the Casey list might be required if the alignment is to produce competitive teams which are so necessary for the development of the younger players on AFL lists these days.

I think bad! Just becasue MFC has finished for the year, our members & supporters still want to hear whats going on! I know I do!

Without over analysing, and looking through rose-coloured glasses, I would imagine that the clubs are not wanting to get their announcements caught up with, and overshadowed by, all of the hoopla surrounding the Grand Final; look for an announcement in a week or so.

But i can't say i agree with the highlighted statement, i actually think that being aligned with a less competitive VFL team is beneficial to player development, Sandy has been competitive for a long time, but becuase they are worried about their own sucess, that has meant we have had little control of who plays where, we've not had a chance to develop a FF of late because Sautner has had a mortage on the position at the Zebras.

Geelong won the AFL & VFL premiership last year, this year their VFL side failed to make the finals, but it hasn't seemed to have caused an issue. Collingwoods VFL side is rubbish, but they made a Semi final. Box Hill didn't make the finals and Hawthorn are doing fine. On the flip the other to AFL preliminary finalists VFL affiliates finished 3rd & 5th.

The point is it doesn't really matter is the VFL side is sucessful or not, the main thing you need is control over the side, which we've lacked with Sandringham.

Interesting point. It wouldn't be great if our VFL side was constantly getting beaten, but you might be onto something.

The connection with the Casey community has started - Chris Connolly was apparently at the Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce AGM as guest speaker last Wednesday night.

He will no doubt have been as passionate as ever, and have inspired people attending with the possibilities ahead.

Many people may come to see the return of the Irish Lad" as the saving..( jury's still cconsidering ) ...of the club. I think in years to come history will look back and rightfully recognise that it was Chris Connolly's coming back to Melbourne that was the true catalyst for this club turning it around and any likely successes !! Good to listen to isnt he

In 2 weeks the Melbourne football club commences it 2009 pre season training, I assume all skill season will be at Casey but will our football department be out there with our gym. Look from a far that we will be using the Junction for a little longer.

There's no room in the current gym, and the new one hasn't been built (or even started). Not a little longer - a lot longer!

The gym equipment can't be moved to Casey until the building is finished. The building can't be started until the contract is signed. No word on whether that has happened yet.

I guess it will only be outdoor training that will be at Casey for the time being.

Hmm. Hopefully there is an announcement soon later this week. Now the GF is out of the way, and the focus shifts to trade week and other clubs news.

Someone may correct me on this, but didn't the footy department use portables at the Junction in readiness for the move to Casey?

Perhaps they will continue using those portables at casey Fields whilst the building and extension moves towards completion.

If we still have to use the Junction for our Gym work we may as well keep our Footy department there as well.

HT, i thought our coaches were using portables for a long time before Casey came up.

Happy to be proven wrong though. I remember Daniher's last week at the club and showing him going into a portable for the last team match-ups etc.
