I keep hearing we are set to lose $1m this year...

Does that mean that we are set to break even due to the $1m assistance from the afl, or does that mean we are going to lose $2m this yr?

Either way, it's really troubling because next year we only receive 250k.

Our membership is adequate-28,000

We are building a new home ready for 2010.

We now have a new permanent training base in Casey fields.

We are bringing in some impressive people into the club- stynes, connoley etc...

Our list is struggling atm but we have some impressive youngsters which will be complemented by top draft picks this yr...

Basically my point is that our financial position should be the number 1 issue. if we were making profits each year i guerentee noone would be on our backs.

Why is it that we have the only pokies venue in the entire world that doesn't make money?

Why do we seem to be worse off financially to last yr when this yr we have bigger crowds and less injury player payments?

this whole situation really boths me... why are we so bad at making money?

Maybe we look after our board members too much. Maybe they should put there hand in there pocket and pay there own way instead of sucking the club dry. Maybe we are failing to attract corporate support ,we haven't had the best PR of late.

If it's true that the AFL will reduce the assistance funding it gives the club then we should be demanding that we get treated as an equal member of the competition in all other aspects - espescially in regard to fixturing.

It's simply outrageous that a club like Collingwood gets the lion's share of attractive fixtures that give it enormous advantages over other clubs in terms of the ability to attract crowds and sponsorships as well as in terms of its ability to win games by having to travel less to interstate venues and never to a ground like Skilled Stadium. If we're going to be stuck on a playing mode that means we play mostly on Sunday afternoons and rarely on the lucrative Friday night and Saturday evening circuit then surely we're entitled to substantial compensation from the body which devises this unfair and inequitable playing schedule?

....

I believe it was at our request that this would be the situation for 2009, bearing in mind when they said this we were on track to be dept free by 2010, now there just doesn't seem to be any hope of doing that in the next 2 years.

However i do agree that it's outrageous that we're being talked down at and spat on by the media when we ask for this, when no matter what happens Collingwood, Essendon, and all the interstate clubs will STILL have all the financial advantages the AFL hands them. The fund is there to even out the competition from the inequities the AFL generates, under the current setup and regime we should still be entitled to that funding.

It's that or the AFL takes away the Collingwood's of the competition's monopoly on the night matches.

You are absolutely correct.

And bottom line for the filth and other clubs in the $'s, there would be no competition without the (financially) weaker clubs.

1000% correct. How can the AFL come out and say that the competitive balance fund is there due to inequity in the draw (two years ago) and then go back on their word.

Demetriou's house will be burnt down if this happens. He is a 8===D. Actually he is a V.

Responding to our pathetic financial management by claiming 'it's the AFL's fault' achieves nothing.

The MFC, like any business, needs to make money to survive. Unfair draw or not it's their responsibility to deal with it and if they cannot they have only themselves to blame.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
