FWIW, I know a young bloke who played on Watts a couple of weeks ago. When he told me my ears pricked up and I asked him if he thought Watts was any good. He was pretty underwhelmed. The boy who told me this is pretty big and strong.

...and Watts is a bottom age, skinny 194cm 17 year old.

I wouldn't worry about 1 game, and I wouldn't worry about the opinion of this kid.

This is just an anecdote but it supports my suspicion that maybe Watts is going to be a clever and skillful star forward but not an intimidating and imposing leader who scares the [censored] out opposition, which is what we need. The boy who told me this is pretty big and strong.

so he sounds like a lance franklin type and not a barry hall type? damn

he doesnt drop overhead marks but he does drop the ones out in front

remember how we were saying we want a player like robbo who can mark out in front but can mark above his head like miller?

the thing is, miller this year had a good conversion rate on goal (anyone got the numbers?) but for some reason he lacks confidence in his kicking because sometimes as soon as he gets a mark he handballs to a stationary team mate who is under pressure, rather than just going back and kicking it

he has a good kick when he is confident and a good over head mark

I also know someone who played against Watts, and he reckons he is by far the best player he has played against (only plays TAC cup though, so only against victorians)

what a pointless comment!

Honestly, did you see John Brown when He was first drafted? Tall lanky, nothing special just to look at him. Then he hit the weights and became a man mountain.

TALL KIDS OFTEN NEED TIME TO FILL OUT. He's only 17 for crying out loud! Making judgements about whether he'll be an imposing figure in 3 years time is an utter waste of time.

Have you seen Buddy Franklin lately? He's filling out if you haven't noticed. Not too different in size to.. say... I dunnoo... Barry Hall?

and a cat.......

Anyhoo would this mean that Watts is going to nominate or have kids attended this before and not nominated?

No indication. I can't remember exactly who it was (I think it was Trent Cotchin) but they were unable to attend last year due to injury, but clubs were still able to get a fair idea of ability from the previous year's results when they had attended.

Jon Brown was 95 kilos when he got drafted

Okay i may sound a bit stalkerish, but anyway.

I was looking at potential draft picks myspaces, and found David Zaharakis' whose was on public.

And in his comments some girl asked him if he new Jack Watts and if he thought he was going to go to Melbourne.

This is what he said back...

What a fat 18 year old!

Where did you get that info?

He may have been that weight, I can;t remember... and yeah, i concede he was already a big lad, but he filled out a lot too.

I think Jack's got a fair bit of growing to do and he'll do it ... in a couple of years.

Someone mentioned it in another thread, and I remember a Dermie article talking about his running power. Mentioned Dermott (sp?) thinking he was a ruckman lol.

There was an earlier article than that mentioning how he basically rag dolled everyone at school and TAC level

Here we go:

http://www.footy.com.au/dags/2000/draftoct1999.html

*edit* awsome! I'm a kilo lighter than Tim Clarke and he's the lightest in that list lol

Also interesting to see that almost every player taken that's 6'1" or 6'2" has grown an inch or 2 since then

I really think Watts must be our choice.

Just saw a news clip on fox news with them promoting the WAFL grand final, with Rich Vs Naita.

Asked Naita something about possibility of staying home and he definitely seems like he 100% wants to stay home , way to risky i think.

tell you what..

i think blease is looking better and better everyday

does anyone think he will last the journey to pick 17?

Not sure, but fingers crossed. It all depends on what other recruiters at other clubs want. He and Zaharkis are both identified as the ones with genuine pace. Other clubs would be awake to this. They both could go earlier than we are hoping.

Its Watts or Vickery for me.

Still haven't made your mind up Mousey? Stick with Watts mate.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
