Long time lurker, I finally had to say something. I flew across the ditch from NZ for family business and convince my father to take me the game on Sunday. My grandfather played for this great club, my grand mother was in the stands every weekend, I buy 3 memberships each year for my mother father and myself and my whole family hearts beats red and blue.

Pre game I was kinda embarrassed for the club, not many people there, kinda lame rousing of emotions with the trumpeter and spruiker and felt like we were at a very low ebb. By half time I though all the articles and forums were right and this club was dying. I leant across to my old man who was struggling and said "If this doesn’t get better soon I am taking you home."

The last half of footy is something I will take with me for the rest of my life. I screamed my throat horse, my father grew with pride, and I think I saw something that was lacking for at least 2 years. Some bloody heart and soul. Some pride in the history and the jumper. And some bloody support from the crowd.

I really don’t care if it was the game plan that stuck, or some players stepping up (Miller, Jarmar etc). What I care about there was 18,000 Demons fans there making the noise of 50,000. There was a chilling atmosphere and was proud to fly the scarf out the window all the way home.

There are tough times ahead but what I wanted to say is support this club. You can see what a difference it made on the weekend. Get behind the players, stop your finger pointing, pay your membership and get on board.

Yes. That's exactly how i felt with my dad. The Demons will live on and eventually thrive.

Rocknroll & why you little: you both add to the pride I have felt this week for our club & our supporters. We may not have the numbers & our "facilities" may have had chris judd turning his nose up but I reckon our long tradition can't be beaten, even if the AFL loathes us.

This victory's importance will live on a long time. Probably until Melbourne's eventual resurgence.

Mediocre clubs don't win like that. Heartless teams don't win like that. Weak supporter bases don't have that kind of presence. The club made a call to arms, and their people and team responded.

We have probably the worst list in the AFL for 2008 (only because we're rebuilding)... Only two things got us over the line on Sunday.

One was red. The other was blue.

Rocknroll.... Do you mind us asking who your Grandfather is? I'm dying of curiosity.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
