But doing so reduces goal-scoring and opportunities for a moment of rest in between, and also increases contact and the potential of injury.

I don’t see any Demon doing anything to Maynard. We won’t want suspensions and nothing less than a suspension worthy act is worth doing anyway. Pushing and shoving is meaningless and just wastes energy and is distracting from the game. The best thing we can do is win by a landslide and then a marking attempt which accidentally knocks Maynard out is the best quinella.
