  1. May, Lever and Gawn have all been reported at relevant and various stages to be on more than that figure. Richo didn't say Kozzie deserved that, that is the 'industry talk' based on what current deals are and what I think Kozzie is worth (I don't think anyone on here with half a brain would disagree with that). He didn't say that we wouldn't be able to re-sign Kozzie because of those deals: he said that it makes for conversation that clubs work out whether they want their premium top-liners to be rewarded (Trac, Clarry, Gus - all done last year) which makes it more difficult to retain the next tier (Luke Jackson case and point - and now the conversation turns to Kozzie). Does that help you?
  2. Not conjecture - confirmed by Alan Richardson end of last season on trade radio, that most good clubs have their top 8 tied up to nearly 50% of salary cap. Unless they are prepared to do a hawthorn/geel and play for less/success... New CBA means that average salary has increased significantly since last broadcast deal.
  3. The reality is that Kozzy deserves to be getting 650-700k per season for this deal. We may not be able to match Port or other suitors given the deals that Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw have all signed. We know Lever, May and Gawn are all north of this figure. So it leaves very little for the rest.
  4. Agreed - I don't expect we'd get top 5, simply suggesting we try move up to 9 or 10. But they might have tried to no avail. You'd back them in to get something at 13 given Taylor's record
  5. Would the club not entertain trading pick 13 and future 2nd or 1st? Seeing as though we have two future firsts (2023) and two future 2nds (2023)...we could get higher up the order this year - given there's some F/S picks. I know next year's draft is being touted as stronger, yet I'd like to see a better return on investment for losing Jackson this year. We've got a good record of trading up/picks.
  6. I just can't see how we would get this player this year - we'd need to trade both future firsts or 13 and future first and future 2nd.
  7. GNF said a contracted KPF. I'm trying to join dots as to realistic yet decent KPF. Schache and Bruce are not the answer...
  8. Which is a disaster. I do not see ANY point given we have Weideman. Couldn't care less that he is a pick 2, he's never delivered at AFL level
  9. Ben King would be an interesting one. The only KPF in contract that I would've expected as gettable.
  10. If we are letting Weid go, then perhaps GNF has something to it...but i would consider Bruce or Schache disasters and may as well have kept Weid. Why not go Ollie Henry
  11. Would appear that exit interviews for fringe players post Casey GF will be tomorrow given no list change announcements today?
  12. The most interesting thing re Jackson and possible list changes is that we do not have a draft pick until pick 32 (no first round pick and based on finishing outside top 4). I would hope that we get two first round picks for Jackson. Whilst Grundy would be handy to help give Gawn a chop out, neither he or Gawn or genuine forwards so I wouldn't want to be getting rid of both first rounders/or even one as has been reported as part of potential Grundy deal. An opportunity to get in more young talent. We only blooded one debutant this year (Turner). Outside of Hunt/Melksham, we barely had proper competition for spots from Premiership year.
  13. Could say the same for any interstate side, yet plenty currently occupy the bottom 10.
  14. I am shocked we have only delisted two players...unbelievable. What are they waiting for?
  15. Of genuine concern is the lack of talent on our list Under 22. on the same level, the lack of talent on our list above the age of 28.
  16. Probably one of the better posts on this website. We were always going to be 6-12 this year. Injuries have meant that we are definitely outside of that. DO NOT underestimate the scarring a prelim final loss like that has. Had we lost by a point, different story. Sides that get belted/completely outplayed in Grand Finals are exactly the same: Port 07...never got back there (and played well above themselves that year). Sydney 2014 - haven't got close since. Adelaide 2017...
  17. Think we'll find Tom Sparrow goes to the Crows at pick 24 Gutted. Thought we'd really try hard to get into that first round...especially with two picks in the 20's as it was. probably hurt we didn't get one more pick back in hogan deal. Hopefully there's someone still half decent - might be a chance to look at state league players that are that bit more mature and ready. Jack Henderson from Werribee (19 yrs old) would be well worth our late pick/rookie spot.
  18. would we entertain trading 23 and 28 to get a pick inside the 20s? That would mean one less pick but could use 62 to promote Tim Smith (guessing 91 to promote Maynard is a lock)
  19. I have had a lot to do with Ned down here in Geelong...I teach him and he's been in our footy programme. Simlarities to Jack Higgins in personality. A running machine. A good kid at heart. Hoping he gets picked up. All the best to him
  20. I make it 7 spots left on primary list - May and KK brought it to 33. You're allowed 40 + 4 rookies. picks 23,28,54,62,91 is 5 draft picks....so there's 2 extra spots? one rookie position currently available with/if they remain rookies: maynard, smith and keilty.

  22. We got May, KK and pick 23 for Hogan. Huge result. As good as Hogan was/is and as much as he may turn out to be a star, we had some of our best wins in the last three years without him. Including our final 4 games of this year (2 finals included). Put May and Lever into that side and Darling and Kennedy probably don't do as much damage. Midfield show up and we probably win. Bring on 2019
  23. This has derailed our attempt to get Steve May. Club are extremely frustrated with Jesse - they have gone ahead to negotiate with Freo. Seems as though for the first time in a while we are going to be involved in the deal that holds up the whole workings of others.
  24. Long bow here but Johnstone's delisting to me would suggest Hogan has told club he is going. It leaves 33 spots on primary list (7 remaining...). We only have four 'live' picks as it stands...32,43,50,86. Preuss and KK to come in potentially, but Kent, Hogan and maybe Vandenberg and Tyson out... Something tells me we are going to be fairly active. I have it on very good authority that if Hogan does go to Freo or West Coast, Melb would be asking for 2 x top 10 draft picks minimum - not two first round picks as being communicated through the media. They will play hard ball. Key forwards (think Josh kennedy/judd trade) do not happen often, so the price is more than a premium mid.
