Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
btdemon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
If we draft him I'd pay two memberships. With pleasure -
Check this guy out. Whoever gets him will be a winner. So quick and strong. ww.youtube.com/watch?v=Ro_Sj4mjyGw

Baseball hats make young players look really unintelligent. This is my conclusion.

He is a Demon hater and bater. Having people hate your club is a good thing.

With threads like this no wonder people label us a 'silver-tail' team. Incidentally, some of us had a state school education, and amazingly, we still manage perform the basic functions of a citizen. It's also great that we can fulfil the menial roles in society and provide factory fodder for the 'better calibre' of people who contribute to this site.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DOM TYSON
btdemon replied to angrydee's topic in Melbourne Demons
What I really like the look of with Tyson is his inherent balance over and with the ball. Keeps his feet beautifully and enables a second chance at the ball as well as giving him the ability to thread through packs. We haven't had many of these really balanced players in the last few years. Looks pretty strong overhead as well. (These observations are made from the very limited number of clips we have of him.) -
I would give my left one (their work is long done now), to see him playing in Demon colours again. The most naturally gifted Demon I have seen since Flower.

Decision making will improve with confidence in himself and those around him. Tapscott on the other hand, was supposed to be a beautiful kick. Useless! He really looks like a lazy player to me.
-
Many bagged him on this site. I can see that it was probably time for him to hang up the boots but I reiterate what I said a couple of year ago. He was the player who kept me coming to games from his debut through to the end of the Bailey era. LJ replaced him as Mr X factor but Those who remember the buzz that went around the crowd whenever he went near it will remember what an asset he has been. A genius with the ball. Well done Flash

The highlight package missed a couple of magic moments. The goal that helped sink Freo in that great comeback. What a player at his peak! Sad to see him go. He copped a lot of carp from this website too.
-
The most naturally gifted player at the Dees since Flower. I know he never realised his potential but if he did it would be magical, for us and him! PS where are you rudeboy? We miss you and Liam

Jack Watts - More Discussion (for those who haven't had enough)
btdemon replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
I haven't seen a lot of Taylor Adams. From what I have see he is strong clever and hard at it. He is only 179cm. Jack Viney is 178cm, Nathan Jones 180, Luke Tapscott 180, Dean Kent 179, Pickles Evans 180. I fear that we are already loaded up with hard at it types who are under 6 feet tall. He is definitely strong but I would like to trade for or draft some strong but taller mids. What I have done has gone through each team and picked their premier mid or mids from the present or recent past (in the case of Hayes and Judd) Dane Swan may look like a fat waddling duck but he is 185. Pendles is 191. Jimmy Bartel, 187. Jobe Watson 191. Dusty Martin 187. Paddy Dangerfield 185. Trent Cotchin 185. Travis Boak 183. Chris Judd 189. Lenny Hayes 186. Matt Priddis 185. Ryan Griffin 188. Callan Ward 185. Michael Barlow 189. Andrew Swallow 182. Even "little Gazza" is 182. Sam Mitchell is only 179 but is surrounded by bigger and taller mids. Marc Murphy is only 180 but you could also argue that Carlton's midfield have not been very effective this year. -
Hutchy on SEN this morning crapping on that Adam Simpson WILL BE coach at Melbourne in a year's time. Then went on to suggest that they might employ Rocket for three years and engineer a transition to Simpson. All very confusing. Then, I'm not sure if it was Hutchy or Pickers, said what about keeping Craig on next year with Simpson in the wings? Hutchy's unequivocal statement seemed a little more unsure. Does anyone know why Simpson is being touted as a brilliant young coach? Where is he currently? PS those guys are so self-aggrandising. They really get my hackles up.

I agree, watts must be signed. We shouldn't give up a class player. I know he can be soft but will be very valuable in a good side. The incompetence that surrounds him (Nicho, Tappy, Byrnes) was breathtaking tonight. There is zero confidence and it is like the game of Footy is foreign or new to them. I still wonder about the effect of Neeld's stultifying tactics and the residue in their psyche.

Yes you're right. Was that the year when we won quite a few games until Carl was injured about half way through the season and lost everything from then on? Or was that in his earlier stint at the Dees? Showed what an intimidating physical presence he had. I also remember his last game which a lot of people turned up for. it was against Collingwood and he was reported three times (from memory). Harry Beitzel referred to the reports in his post match interview and Carl just laughed. Harry promptly admonished him and told him that it wasn't funny. Carl sheepishly acknowledged that "no it wasn't funny". - Priceless

The year prior to Barrassi's return as coach was pretty dismal. Dennis jones was installed as coach and given no support. It was very clear that he was filling the chair until the "Bring back Barrass" process was complete. I went every week in those days just to watch Robbie and hope vainly for the odd win. Following the Dees has been a strange masochistic pastime for way too long.

I just had a look at that list. What it tells me is that our ability to recruit ordinary footballers has a very long history. It seems to go back to the early 1970s. There were a couple of eras which were blips on the graph. The mid to late 80s was ok. Again in the mid to late 90s there were a few good choices. Otherwise we must have looked at who was available and chosen the ones who were flawed or at best, speculative. This is meant as no disrespect to those players as people. It wasn't their fault that they weren't blessed with football ability. It just appears that we have a long history of poor recruiting. - Depressing! It points to the importance of engaging the very best recruiters and list manager that we can. (Note to self - I must stop bashing myself up by reading this site. The nightmare just keeps on going. They say "the darkest hour is just before the dawn", but it just seems to get darker.....Yeesh!)

What is the alternative to "going soft" on the list? It's the only list we have.,

While last night was frustrating, if we had played the Lions in darwin two months ago under the old regime we probably would have been blown away. All of the players who do things that annoy us are still doing them, but not nearly as much. this suggests that the learning environment is positive rather than intimidating. Change is incremental. I am hopeful that we are generally moving in the right direction and will continue to do so.
-
Does this mean that we can stop bemoaning the fact that we took Jimmy before Ollie? I hope so.
-
Neil Craig, Mark Neeld, Neale Daniher, Neil Balme. We've got to stop kneeling and stand up.
-
Henry Coles, Peter Moore were both great for the Dees.
-
He also got Laurie Fowler from behind one day. Went off on a stretcher. Lethal was in the forward pocket and Fowler was niggling him all day. Fowler was about twenty yards out (Richmond end) watching up field and Lethal ran from behind and clocked him. He was indeed "Lethal".

We actually need to draft another project ruckman. Max might be great one day and Fitz might be OK but after that we've got nothing. Jamar is in his twilight and it only takes injury to one of these guys and we're really compromised. Clark can do it but that is a waste of such a great forward. The injury risk would also increase and he is too precious. Project ruckmen take two or three years to develop. It was probably a mistake not to draft Hannath when we had the chance.
