  1. Thanks - sounds encouraging. About a quarter of those drafted this year seem to have come from WA. Even if we accept the strength of the “go home factor” that so many seem concerned about, I don’t see how the two WA clubs can accommodate all of this year’s WA draftees supposedly wanting to return home from their respective non WA clubs in a couple of years or so. Player list number restrictions, salary cap, trade requirements - don’t see how West Coast and Freo can pull off bringing all those players - and that’s just from this year‘s draft - back to WA.
  2. 4. Greater Western Sydney (received from Adelaide as part of a pick swap; originally received from Carlton in 2018)
  3. The 9 news item also mentioned Oliver and showed footage of him going down. Also mentioned and showed Melksham nursing a hand injury, but suggested that it was minor.
  4. Ruckman Jack Hannath recruited by Fremantle?
  5. On that basis the Gabba in Brisbane should probably be the true “G”.
  6. Except for Anzac Eve, which happens to fall on a Friday night next year.
  7. He was seemingly just ‘taking the [censored]’ out of Melbourne all along, where he has previous form: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5053641/Jamie-Elliott-arrested-drunkenly-urinating-bin.html
  8. the “big dance” Can’t it just remain known as the Grand Final?
  9. Yeah Bonar first...then Cumming.
  10. Not sure that many are on the same page as our fd...possibly players included.
  11. My main concern if they did happen to win their last two games would be that it might lull the football department, players etc. into another false sense of security ahead of pre season and next season, and the opportunity to continue with the usual positive spin “We always believed in the game plan, we’re playing “the Melbourne way” with those last two wins of the season, launches us positively into next season, no need for a review, overhaul. rebuild, just need to tweak a few things” etc. Not that I particularly want them to lose their last two games either, but at least that would leave the stark reality for all to see of so few wins for the season and keeps the heat on all concerned at the club to try to actually do something about it.
  12. Clearly trying to disguise that he’s out of shape, otherwise he’d be wearing something skimpier to show off his body.
  13. Reminds you of Andy Lovell with darker hair? Hard to tell.
  14. That stat comes up often, in fact I think it used to be much less than half at one stage - if anything it’s improved over time. Pert’s not the first to suggest that they need to get more MCC members signing for joint MFC membership. The problem is that others at MFC before him, including Neale Daniher when he was coach, have made the same comments. The difficulty, in reality, is to get the remaining tight-arsse MCC members to fork out the additional 80-odd dollars for joint membership, when they can easily just sheepishly ignore the option, still go to Melbourne games in the comfort of the MCC and claim to be Melbourne supporters, while saving themselves some $ as a result. I hope Pert has something concrete in mind that will succeed, where other MFC management before him haven’t been able to in the past.
  15. Yes a Sam Weideman goal kicked after the siren, but as a result of a miss-kick out of the goal square by Jeremy Howe.
  16. For all the AFL's talk about protecting the head, the danger of concussion, the head being sacrosanct and effectively banning the bump out of the game, they still just prefer to turn a blind eye to players ducking their head and putting their own head at risk.
  17. So no comment from MFC at this stage? Haven't seen anything in their website yet. Bulldogs and Port have both at least made statements in some form in relation to their players involved.
  18. Yes I agree, although if the contract was only for say two years instead of four, those two seasons may be spent by him looking on from the stands while serving a two year ban. I just can't see why the club would bother with someone of his standard, regardless of the term of his contract - there doesn't appear to be much upside from getting him, but a lot of potential downside. If the club is really considering him, I'm concerned that they've been drawn in by the general local complacency about the WADA outcome, and this apparent local view that the players will either still get off, or only be banned for a few weeks or so.
  19. The WADA hearing outcome will not be swayed by any populist or even popular views, most of which are no doubt uninformed anyway. And if the club really is looking to get him, they could also be taking too complacent a view about that outcome. He's not worth taking that risk of a two year ban for.
  20. Perhaps if we're interpreting what was overheard, they were saying "How (not Howe) good are we, to have landed Dangerfield for just $400,000 a year for the next 5 years.
