Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!
Jerry Lundergard replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
After watching the debacle today and wondering where our goals are going to come from in the immediate future, i am starting to think this kid may actually be what we need. -
No Passion, no Hardness, no leadership

A bit harsh on Warnock and Garland considering how bad we were getting smashed in the clearances and the ball was being peppered into the F50. I thought Garland actually won more of his 1 on 1 contests with Reiwoldt than he lost. -
I must have been watching a different game to those that have Sylvia as the best. He(along with many others) had zero impact on the game. 6. Junior 5. Garland 4. PJ 3. McLean 2. Warnock 1. Could not find anyones else deserving.

With immense focus in recent weeks about tackling and pressure, here is the stat of the day. White, Yze and Bruce. 3 tackles between the lot of them. Brock 6 tackles. -

Luke Darcy was pumping this kid up this week after watching him in the game on the weekend. Apparenty he is one of the best junior basketballers for his age in the country, but has decided to play footy instead of taking up a college hoops scholarship. -
Holland in for Robbo as a late change?

Bailey - players finally responding?

After watching the game up high in the G.S.Stand yesterday, i came away feeling that we looked like an organised team with a structure and plan that the players actually adhered to. Something i haven't really been able to say this season. The first game against the Hawks, and a few thereafter, if the ball split in our forward line the opposition would be able to switch and rebound the ball with ease. But yesterday, we had players in position to stop this rebound which forced the Hawks into many errors. -
He also keeps his feet just about as good as anyone on our team i can remember.

It seems to me that they are grooming Dunn to be a tagger, as he has played that role when he has gone back to Sandy. If you think about it, who do we have on our team once Jmac retires that will play as a tagger other than Bartram? We need someone in the Ling, Sewell or Kirk mould who can tag the bigger onballers. Remember, none of those players were prolific ball winners early, but soon started to find alot of it after learning from the best. I have my doubts about him forward, due to his lak of athleticism, especially gettting off the ground and overhead.

This rule has bugged me for a long time. IMO the player who puts in a chase should be rewarded. Does the infringement in the back occur due to a clumsy tackle, or because the player being tackled goes to ground and momentum carries the tackler forward? While i am on this subject, the other one that drives me crazy is when a player is chased down when he is on his own on the wing for instance, and as he feels the tackle he frees his arm and pops out a soft handball in front of him even though there are no players within 20 meters of him. Holding the ball, or play on? 9 times out of 10 the umps with call play on. You have to reward the chase and tackle. That is what fans who pay there money to come and see games want to see, a player making a 50m chase to run down an opposition player getting rewarded.

I was up in the G.S.Stand, and i was cutting a very lonely red and blue figure up there.

he needs to start being talked about as a genuine threat to win the Rising Star. He is every bit as good as C.Rioli, especially considering the supply and the forwards he gets to rove off.

I particulary like this little whack from Wilson. "Last time Kennett tried to become an AFL statesman, he called on the competition to toughen up its illicit drugs policy. Kennett declared a zero tolerance regime at his own club, but he seems to have stopped talking about that now." -
Looks like Holland on Roughhead.

Jon Ralph started this last week on SEN's Morning Glory and now Robbo has written this article, which has some valid points. However, it really annoys me that people like Ralph and Andrew Maher can accuse forum users as being cowardly hiding behind nicknames while potting players. They somehow think they are morally above us because they put their name out there. There is one small point they missed, they put out their hand and take money to do it. What difference would it make if we put our real names to our posts, none of the players reading would know us anyway, say we would be no different to the faithful hanging over the fence at the game and yelling out the same(or worse) abuse. If a journalist makes scathing attack on a player in a much larger medium such as the paper, radio or TV, does it hurt the players feelings any less that he knows the persons name making the attack? What would be worse for Nick Stevens, having Andrew Maher accusing him of being fat and unfit on SEN, or some nobody on a Carlton forum saying the same thing? IMO, It would be wise for players not to view many of these forums, but i think in most part if a player is attacked on these forums, he is more often than not equally defended.

They were still able to get within a kick of a decent team though. We have had one winning half of footy against Freo, so i still think we are in the box seat. I am more worried about the Bombers.
-
I don't see how he is a front runner, when we have hardly been "in front" all year. I would say that Brock was one of the catalysts in that 2nd half due to having the luxury of nobody running with him. I understand your argument in regards to trade bait, but you are yet to produce an argument that convinces me that trading Brock will improve our team next year, or in three years time. I am sure in yur mind you must be thinking, "trade Brock, pick up the next Buddy. Simple". But the reality is we may get another Sylvia or Molan. Clubs are going to be reluctant to give up high draft picks this year in light of concessions arriving for the new clubs, so we may not even get decent value for him anyway.
-
I have changed my tune on him a bit as well. Hopefully he can buck the trend of the MFC put some muscle on so he can compete in the contested stuff a bit better though.
-
If you think we are getting smashed now, what do you think will happen if we trade away our No.1 midfielder and replace him with a 17 year old kid who will take a few years to develop and may end up being no better? And, i don't want to hear that Brock is not our No.1 midfielder. If he isn't, then why do opposing coaches always give him the heaviest tag? What happened when Freo decided not to tag him, or Geelong in the first half? How about we show a little faith in our young players and coaching staff and let them mature and hopefully become a dominant midfield, instead of just having these knee jerk reactions when the whole team is underperforming as a collective.
-
Name me any good YOUNG players that the Hawks traded?
-
Yeah, let's give him to another team with a couple of other decent midfielders where he want get the no.1 tag and watch him rack up quality possessions. What would be the point of trading him and getting in an even younger midfielder, then they will tag Jones and he will get tagged out of the game and you will be calling for his trade. He will get there eventually. He is still young and need the support of the other midfielders around him to either pick up the slack, or provide some more blocking and screening for him.
-
It's a bit unfair to say that Jones is taking much of the load at the moment. He's been tagged once all year, and he picked up 4 possessions. Brock cops the hardest tag every week, he is the one who needs the most support.
-
This has deteriorated in to utter rubbish, we can barely get a clean possession.
