The Melbourne Football Club Culture
Jerry Lundergard replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
For starters, let's not appoint a captain who has been a party to our soft culture over the last decade especially. That means no Bruce, JMac or even Green. Let's give it to Brock and let him be the leader of our core young group of players coming through. We've cleared out the coaches, we are slowly getting rid of those players and now we can take the next step and appoint a new captain who will see us to a new culture at the club. -
I would have thought that the Tigers and Port were as bad as what we were this round, except they were not playing Geelong. So we'll cop the usual [censored] about how crap we are, we should relocate, etc....

Imagine our team in about 3-4 years time, when our better younger players have all played together for about 100 games, and we have weeded out a few layers from our list that can't cut it, and replaced them with some capable youngsters acquired form the draft, and the majority of our team our around 25 years old and weigh about an extra 5-10 kg heavier, and they are all fit and firing. Now match that team up against the team we put out there last night, what do you think the margin would be? Just some food for thought.

Once again, Mark Stevens shows that he is about the only journalist in Melbourne writing positive stories about our club. Well done Brock. And thank you Mark.

I am stoked with that effort. It still won't get the filth off the back and front pages though.

Throw in a matchup for Corey, Ablett(if fit) and Ottens when he goes forward and it looks even scarier. I can see Scarlett taking Sylvia and trying to run off him, so they hard working Col better show up, not the other one.

Here is a few matchuups i've come up with, Warnock - Mooney Martin - Lonegran Bartram - Stokes Bruce - Johnson Dunn - Bartel JMac - Selwood

Cale Morton - Rising Star nomination
Jerry Lundergard replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
He seems to miss a lot of targets when he is not under pressure and is just a straight foward kick. However, one kick he is exceptionally good at, which not many on our team are, is that one where he is able to cut the ball at a sharp, low angle to a target into the F50. A very handy asset to have on any team. -

No offence to the Urquartinator, but Col Garland had to wait quite a while, and he was playing on some of the best fowards in the AFL week in week out, AND not getting beaten. I don't watch much of the Roos, does anyone know if he actually plays on any dangerous fowards or he a flanker or back pocket? Surely Mortons output across the whole season thus far should have him in front for this round. -

Buckley must be a chance to snare one soon as well. I am sure he has a 30 possessions, 2 goal game in him this year. -

He can't, he's played too many games this year. I think 10 is the cut off. -
Should probably wait for the Sandy game today, but on the surface it seems pretty simple for me Out: Garland Davey In: Jones Frawley

I am glad at least one journo had the balls to point out the obvious. Thank you Mark Hayes. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...1-19742,00.html "Demon fans were bemused by a stretch of hideous umpiring that played its part in stopping their team's second-term surge. Morton was unbelievably pinged for incorrect disposal after clearly handballing deep in his attacking 50m, allowing Essendon to repel one threat. But worse soon followed when Cameron Bruce marked 45m out with his Essendon opponent stumbling and hanging on to prevent him breaking away. Not only did the umpire rule Bruce had played on because of his apparent desire to do so, he overlooked the hands around Bruce's ankles when he was forced to move the ball on. "

Dalziel has only played 3 games and didn't kick 3 goals, if he gets it over Cale it's a joke. -
A rreal costly one was the chopping of Sylvia's arms by the protected Fletcher, followed by the throwing of Bate when he didn't have the ball in our F50. Essendon rebound a kick a goal which really kick started their run in the 3rd quarter.

Lucas doesn't count, or i would have included Robbo. My argument is that we are already playing our young guys in key positions, whilst the Bombers have experienced All-Australians in theirs.

Demonland Player of the Year Round 18
Jerry Lundergard replied to Beamer's topic in Melbourne Demons
You may not like it, but if Brock is going to have it happen to him every time he plays, we need to be doing it to the other teams best midfielders. No point being unaccountable and going head to head and getting murdered by oppostion midfielders. -
I still beleive my original thread. I have heard plenty in the media about this young Essendon side, but the Bombers get over the line today on the back of an 8 goal haul from Lloyd and some pathetic umpiring decisions. The Dees to add the likes of Brock, Beamer, Jones, Petterd, Grimes and Rivers to their young nucleus plus some potential great draft picks next year has us ahead in the race in my eyes.

Saved his game with an outstanding last quarter. -
Possibly the worst i have ever watched the Demons be screwed by the umpires. An absolute disgrace! Yes, we butchered plenty of opportunities as well that would have won us the game. But a fair crack from the umps would have had us over the line as well.

If anyone has a Herald Sun paper handy, turn to page 107 and have a look at what O'Bree is doing to our boy Cale Morton.

Somebody had reported in another thread that Petterd was injured. It's a hammy i think.
