Coates Talent League 2024
Riak Andrew scouting notes Wild card round 20. 1/9/24. Scouting notes. Could be a chance for a rookie spot. #5 Riak Andrew Tall Defender | 192cm | 17/02/2005 Stats: 12 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 rebound 50s Having arguably been bested by Jobe Shanahan in their previous two meetings this year, Andrew faced the daunting task once more and kept Bendigo’s spearhead forward goalless for just the second time. The over-ager stuck tight to his direct opponent and was able to nullify his marking influence when Bendigo had the wind advantage. After some tough moments in term two, one of Andrew’s best moments was a rundown tackle late in the piece to exemplify his effort and intent.

The Draft Pick Upgrade Thread
If JT thinks he can get a Gus or Tracc type at 6 then we will go to the draft IMO. We were lucky the Saints and GC had wins in R24 otherwise we might have been tempted to split or trade it. I think we will try to trade into the teens. We may trade our future 1st rounder into an early pick?? Also have to consider we may get talls White and Ah-Mu next year so more likely to stock up on smalls this draft unless pure ruck available.

Coates Talent League 2024
May have been mentioned but Ricky Mentha (our Academy player) made the Round 19 Coates Tean of the week.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
I would like to see another young ruck like Dodson come in under the Gawn tutorage.

Dan Houston
Medias need to beat up stories to keep AFL interest up. I would prefer to use pick 6. If we are desperate for a Back who can play KP, stopper, interceptor, great closing pace with mid like stats why wouldn't we just pick Trainor and get a decade and save the other pick Houston would cost.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Agree, it will all change. Players flying late will move up. We all enjoy the discussions, especially holding pick 5 and maybe a trade up into the top 20.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Good post. You have us taking Langford at 6 - big ball winner.. He seems to be one of the few players who has wideish differing opinions. Cal Twomey has him at3, Rookie me at 10 and ESPN at 10. ESPN and rookie me have athletic profile queries. Cal and Rookie have Reid at 6 , ESPN Smillie at 7 (Ashcroft and Lombardi top 5.) As you said it will all change.
-
Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
Twomey's Aug rankings have Reid at 6 and Draper at 7. Armstrong KPF at 8. ESPN Aug have Smillie at 7 and Travaglia at 8. Lindsay 9, Langford 10. Ashcroft and Lombardi both in top 5.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
Get a full preseason into Clarry and Riv training with the mids during preseason and we should be much more efficient. Tracc will add as a forward/mid as well.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
Rookie me link to August 24 rankings below. They have Reid at 6 and Lalor at 7. Because of Ashcroft our pick is effectively 6. AFL Draft Power Rankings: August 2024 - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
Depends how we see the depth of the first round. We may even trade our future 1st if we the talent in this years draft. Next year we have White and Ah-Mu coming in as talls. Depends where we are thinking where they will go in next years draft. So we will likely stock up on future 2nd and 3rd rounders?? This year YZE and Mentha may be late or rookie picks.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
There is a fair bit of media beat up. All clubs would have players who express concerns at meetings. Just like we get at work. Whately is still beating up the medical alleging negligence etc. The process followed by the Dees docs was standard practice at the time. It has been changed after the relatively rare Tracc injury. I think players with rib injuries will have internal scans. It will all blow over soon.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
If Nth want Trainor they may consider a trade their pick 2 for our pick 5 plus ? That increases our chance of getting a gun.

2024 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
Saints might change their Battle offer to force a pick 8 compo pick.

I can finally sleep at night. It was a worry.

Email from Peter Lawrence
I think an independent review would clear the air and shut the media up. Given current lawsuits if the MFC has been named as a respondent i am not sure whether a review right now would be or could be prejudicial?? I do not know enough to be certain either way..

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
This is an early July'24 ESPN article on Trainor. He has got even better since. All depends on rankings. AFL Draft: Luke Trainor the premier interceptor in a draft full of midfielders - ESPN

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
One or 2 may be available at our pick but it depends how they are ranked. Now that Tracc has committed and Riv is giving mid a shot and pup looks like he will make it Trainor may be a chance. . Luke Trainor did not play round 19 Coates but had a cracker round 18. Just keeps getting better as the season progresses. See rookie me scouting motes below. Beneath i have included the link to COATES STATS FOR THE SEASON TO DATE. Interesting. #23 Luke Trainor Key Defender | 194cm | 10/04/2006 Stats: 33 disposals, 10 marks, 3 inside 50s You’d be forgiven for thinking Trainor was a midfielder given how often he popped up in the front half, getting forward as often as possible early in the piece, and contributed to chain possession plays for his side. Though, he was his typical self with his aerial presence when Geelong attempted to get into its forward half. With some freedom to push forward, Trainor utilised his precision kicking heading forward, often kicking well to the advantage of his teammates on the lead. Trainor looked a little rushed and unclean at times under pressure, but his effort never wavered. Stats Leaders: 2024 Coates Talent League H&A - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
Now our number 5 is staying if Trainor is available at our pick we may take him.

GREAT NEWS!!!! We can all get on with it now.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
wow, from 1/7/24. Makes the media look like dills. Will not help tracc if he decides to lodge a grievance. In the end Tracc has not requested a trade. Maybe he wont. Maggs and blues fo not have the cap space or picks.

Welcome to Demonland: Ricky Mentha
Coates round 19 Rookie me scouting notes. Defender. He seems to have some of the spark and swagger of his vbottom age season. Showed composure and delivered the ball efficiently. Repelling attacks with sharp intercepts. 20 disposals. Likely rookie pick on potential.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Looking at Twomeys and Rookie me top 30 they are in the main reasonably similar. Most are within 2 or 3 picks of picks. Eg Twomey has Lalor at pick 9, Rookie me at pick 7 The major differences are Twomey - Langford at 3 and Rookie at 10. Twomey has Armstrong (KPF) at 8 , Rookie me has him at 18. Twomey has Shanahan (KPF) at pick 21, Rookie has him at 16 Late in their picks Twomey has Dattol at 29and Sims at 30 - Rookie me not included. Rookie me has Mraz and Jaques at 29 and 30 but no inclusion on Twomeys. So over all fair agreement apart from a few players mentioned above.

Thank you St. Kilda
Plus we will not be effected by saints 1st round compo if it eventuates.
